“आपल्या संसारात तुझ्या आईचा हस्तक्षेप बंद झाला नाही तर माझ्याहून वाईट कुणीच नाही, लक्षात ठेव”

नीरज आज जास्तच घुश्यात होता त्यात बायकोला आईशी फोनवर बोलताना पाहून त्याचं आणखीनच सटकलं. पण मीराही साधीसुधी नव्हती, तिनेही त्याच आवाजात विचारलं,

“काय हस्तक्षेप केला हो माझ्या आईने, येऊन जाऊन माझ्या आईवर का लादताय सगळं?”

“देव जाणे तुझी आई तुला काय भरवते आहे, फोनवर इतका वेळ कसल्या गं गप्पा? 2 मिनिट, 5 मिनिट ठीक आहे..पण अर्धा तास झाला तुझं चालूच?”

“आई आहे माझी, कोणी परकी नाही, जिच्याशी फक्त हालहवाल विचारून ठेऊन देईन. बहिणीची चौकशी, भावाची चौकशी, नातेवाईकांच्या खबरी, घरातले कार्य, याबद्दल बोलत होतो”

“काहीही सांगू नकोस, मी काही मूर्ख नाही..इथे सुलेखाच्या..माझ्या बहिणीच्या लग्नासाठी पै पै जमवतोय मी, अजून अर्धी रक्कम सुद्धा जमली नाही.”

“त्याचा आणि माझ्या आईचा काय संबंध?”

“काय संबंध? तुझी आई म्हणत होती चार वर्षांपूर्वी, की जावईबापू.. आमच्या एरियात प्लॉट विकायला काढलेत, एखादा घेऊन टाका लवकर..”

“मग ऐकलं का तुम्ही?”

“मी बायकोचा बैल नाही जे बायकोच्या आणि तिच्या आईच्या तालावर नाचेन..इथे मला सुलेखा साठी पगारातून दरमहा रक्कम बाजूला काढावी लागतेय, अन म्हणे प्लॉट घ्या. प्लॉट घेतला असता तर कुठून बाजूला काढले असते पैसे? आणि तुझ्या आईचा हेतू माझ्या लक्षात आलेला बरं का..”

“कसला हेतू?”

“हेच, की तिकडे प्लॉट घ्यायचा, काही दिवसांनी म्हणणार की घर बांधा.. म्हणजे मुलगी आणि जावई त्यांच्या घराजवळ. आणि माझ्या घरच्यांना मी वाऱ्यावर सोडणार, बरोबर ना?”

“तुमच्या जिभेला काही हाड? अहो वडील गेल्यापासून आईनेच सगळं पाहिलंय आमचं, चार पावसाळे जास्त पाहिलेत तिने, आपल्या संसारासाठीच सांगितलं ना तिने सगळं?”

“आपल्या संसारासाठी नाही, त्यांच्या मुलीच्या स्वार्थासाठी..काही गरज नाहीये त्यांना आपल्यात नाक खुपसायची, का सतत हस्तक्षेप करतात त्या? त्यांना म्हणा मुलगी सुखात आहे तुमची, सतत फोन करायची गरज नाही”

मीरा जबरदस्त चिडली, पण हा वाद असाच वाढत जाईल हे तिला माहीत होतं. तिने दीर्घ श्वास घेत विचारलं,

“मग काय करायचं आता?”

“तुझ्या आईला सांग, सतत फोन करणं आणि कान भरणं सोड म्हणा..आमच्या संसारात हस्तक्षेप नकोय”

“नक्की? कुठलाच हस्तक्षेप नकोय ना?”

“हो..कुठलाच..”

“ठीक आहे”

मीरा ने मनाशी पक्के केले, आता याला धडा शिकवायचाच.

काही दिवसांपासून ताटात रोज तेच तेच पदार्थ बघून नीरज वैतागला होता,

“काय गं? आधी इतके प्रकार बनवायचीस.. आता काय तेच तेच गुळमुळीत?”

“आधी ना मी आईला फोन करून एकेक पदार्थ बनवत होते, सासूबाईंना खोकल्याच्या त्रासामुळे बोलायला त्रास होतो त्यामुळे आईलाच विचारत होते.. पण आता काय बाबा, आईचा हस्तक्षेप नको ना..”

नीरज ने मुकाट्याने सगळं गिळून घेतलं.

“काय गं? सुलेखाने तुझ्याकडे तुझी साडी मागितली होती फंक्शन साठी, तू दिली नाहीस म्हणे? आधी तर स्वतःहून तिला द्यायचीस..”

“कसं आहे ना, आधी मी आईचे संस्कार लक्षात ठेवले होते की आपल्या घरच्यांचं मन जिंकायचं, त्यांच्यासाठी शक्य तेवढं सगळं करायचं…पण आता काय, तुम्ही आईचा हस्तक्षेप थांबवून माझ्या आयुष्यातून तिची हकालपट्टी केली आणि सोबतच तिचे संस्कारही मी विसरले, एरवी आई सतत फोनवर मला हेच सांगत असायची..आता मी विसरून जाईल बहुतेक सगळं..”

नीरज वरमला, पण चेहऱ्यावर दाखवत नव्हता आणि चूक मान्य तर करणारच नव्हता.

मीराला दिवस गेले, बघता बघता सातवा महिना आला. या आनंदाच्या काळात नीरजने तिची खूप काळजी घेतली, पण तिची आई आली की त्याच्या चेहऱ्यावरचे हावभावच बदलत. सातव्या महिन्यात नीरज म्हणाला,

“तुला आईकडे सोडतो, काळजी घे..”

“कशाला?”

“तुझं बाळंतपण माहेरीच होणार ना?”

“शक्यच नाही, आईचा हस्तक्षेप नको आपल्यात हे मी मनाशी पक्कं केलंय, त्यामुळे माझं बाळंतपण इथेच होणार..”

नीरज ला टेन्शन आलं. नववा महिना लागला, मीराला कळा सुरू झाल्या. नीरज ची धावपळ झाली, घरातील सर्वजण अडकून पडले, सुलेखाच्या कॉलेजला दांड्या पडू लागल्या, सासूबाई तर सगळं करून आजारीच पडल्या. सुलेखा मीरा साठी व्यवस्थित जेवण बनवून कॉलेजला जाई पण बाकीच्यांचे सासूबाईंना करावे लागे, सवय नसल्याने खूप गोष्टी चुकत आणि नीरजच्या जेवणाचे हाल होत. त्यात बाळ रात्रभर जागरण करायचं, नीरज आईला म्हणायचा बाळाला घे आणि सासूबाई नीरज ला म्हणायच्या की तू सांभाळ. कसेबसे ते दिवस पुढे जात होते.

याच काळात सुलेखासाठी एक स्थळ चालून आलं, मुलाकडच्यांनी काहीही मागितलं नाही पण लग्नासाठी खर्च तर होणारच होता. नीरजच्या अंगावर काटा आला, आता एकदम एवढी रक्कम कुठून आणणार? सर्वांना वाटलेलं की नीरजने सोय केली असणार, पण इतकी रक्कम त्याच्याकडे खरंच नव्हती.
या टेन्शनमध्ये असताना मीराची आई अचानक दारात,

“येऊ का?”

“या या, बसा. मी आईला बोलावतो”

“आणि तुम्हीही बसा इथे, जरा काम आहे, आणि बाळ काय करतंय?”

“झोपलंय, आणि माझ्याकडे कसलं काम?”

“सांगते”

मीराच्या आईच्या हातात कसलीतरी कागदपत्र होती. मीरा आणि तिच्या सासूबाई बाहेर आल्या. मीराने आईला पाणी दिलं, चहा टाकला.

“तर जावईबापू , मी तुम्हाला मागे म्हटलं होतं ना? की एक प्लॉट आहे कमी किमतीत तो घेऊन टाका म्हणून..तुम्ही नाही म्हणालात मग मी मीराच्या नावाने मीच घेतला”

हे ऐकून नीरज आणि त्याची आई एकमेकांकडे पाहू लागले. नीरजची आई म्हणाली,

“नीरज, तू बोलला नाहीस मला? आणि आजकाल सासूबाईंचं ऐकायला लागलाय असं दिसतंय”

“आई तू ऐकलं नाहीस का? मी नाही घेतला प्लॉट, आणि काय हो मीराची आई, मी नाही म्हटलो मग लगेच मीराच्या नावाने घेतला प्लॉट? काय गरज होती? कुणी सांगितलेलं हे करायला? तुम्हाला काय वाटलं, उद्या मी माझं घर दार सोडून तिकडे घर बांधून राहावं? ते शक्य नाही, माझ्या कुटुंबाला सोडून मी कुठेही जाणार नाही..माझं घर माझी जबाबदारी आहे..”

आईला असं बोलताना पाहून मीराची तळपायाची आग मस्तकात गेली..

“नीरज, तोंडावर ताबा ठेवा.पूर्ण गोष्ट ऐकून घ्या. बाबांनी माझ्या नावे एक FD केलेली त्याचेच हे पैसे आणि त्यातून परस्पर आम्ही प्लॉट घेतला. तुम्हाला सांगितलं नाही कारण तुमच्या डोक्यात हेच किडे वळवळ करणार की आई संसारात नाक खुपसते म्हणून. पण आईने हा प्लॉट मला यासाठी घ्यायला लावला की त्याचे पैसे सुलेखा च्या लग्नासाठी कामात येतील म्हणून. आम्ही तो प्लॉट विकला, चार वर्षात त्या प्लॉट ची किंमत चार पटीने वाढली कारण तिथे नवीन कंपन्यांनी आपलं बस्तान बसवलं या चार वर्षात, तो प्लॉट विकून आईने हे पैसे आणून दिलेत सुलेखा च्या लग्नासाठी. त्यासाठीच आलीये ती. आणि सासूबाई, मी तुमची एकूनएक गोष्ट ऐकते, तेव्हा नीरजने माझ्या आईची एक गोष्ट ऐकली असती ते कुठे बिघडलं असतं? माझं बाळंतपण करतांना आले ना नाकी नऊ? म्हणजे मुलीचं बाळंतपण, तिची आजारपण तिच्या आईने करायची, आणि मुलीची मेहनत मात्र तिच्या सासरी वापरायची. मुलगी चुकीची वागली तर दोष आईला द्यायचा, पण काही चांगलं केलं तर मात्र तिच्या आईने हे संस्कार केलेत हे मान्य करायचं नाही… वा रे हा न्याय”

मीरा ने इतक्या दिवसांची धगधग आज एका क्षणात बाहेर काढली होती, पुन्हा एकदा शेवटचं तिने दरडावून सांगितलं..तेही डोळे वटारून..

“पुन्हा जर माझ्या आईबद्दल काही बोललात तर याद राखा.. आई आहे माझी , हवं तेव्हा तिला भेटेन हवं तेव्हा तिच्याशी बोलेन. आणि जर मान्य नसेल, तर तुमचं आणि तुमच्या आईचं बोलणंही मी बंद करेन, आणि मलाही मान्य नसेल सासूबाईंचा हस्तक्षेप आपल्या संसारात..”

नीरज आणि सासूबाई घाबरून सगळं गपचुप ऐकत होते, का नाही ऐकणार? तिचा एकूणएक शब्द खरा होता, त्यात खरेपणा होता आणि नीरजचा मूर्खपणा आज सर्वांसमोर उघडा पडला होता.

मीराने आज दुर्गावतार घेतला होता, वर्षानुवर्षे “मुलीची आई आणि तिचा संसारात असलेला हस्तक्षेप” या दुर्दैवी विषयावर तिने कायमचं पांघरूण घातलं.
