 दुसऱ्या दिवशी एक स्वस्तातला हॉल बघायला ते गेले,

तिला पटत नव्हता, पण नकार देऊ शकत नव्हते,

काम झाल्यावर दोघेही कॉफी घ्यायला एका ठिकाणी गेले,

तिच्या चेहऱ्यावरचं दुःखं त्याला दिसत होतं,

तो म्हणाला,

तुला वाईट वाटलं माहितीये मला, पण मी हे आपल्या भविष्यासाठीच करतोय, हा खर्च तात्पुरता आहे..पण पुढे होणाऱ्या बाळाचा खर्च, त्याचं शिक्षण…यामध्ये गुंतवणूक करण्यासाठी मी प्रयत्न करतोय..त्यासाठी आत्ताचे खर्च वाचवण्यासाठी मी धडपडत आहे.. आत्ताच सगळी उधळपट्टी केली तर उद्यासाठी कुणापुढे हात पसरणार? माझ्या या वागण्यामागे असलेला हेतू लक्षात घे…

तिला पटलं खरं, पण तरीही…सल मनात होतीच…

तिने खोटं स्मितहास्य केलं,

तेवढ्यात मागून एक आवाज आला,

“Happy birthday to you…”

त्यांनी मागे वळून पाहिलं,

मागच्या टेबलवर एक वयस्क माणूस समोर केक ठेऊन एकटाच म्हणत होता,

त्यांना वाटलं हा वेडा आहे की काय,

वेटरने सांगितलं,

हा माणूस दरवर्षी एकटाच येउन वाढदिवस साजरा करतो, एकटाच आहे हा, याला कुटुंब नाही..

या दोघांना खूप वाईट वाटलं,

दोघे त्याच्याजवळ गेले, त्याच्या सुरात सूर मिळवू लागले,

तो माणूस आनंदी झाला..

मोठ्या मनाने बसा बसा म्हणून सांगू लागला..

खूप आनंदी झाला..

“याच्यासाठी छानपैकी रॉयल थाळी, सर्वात महागडं पेय आणि आईस क्रीम आणा..माझ्याकडून पार्टी आज..”

त्याने वेटरला सांगितलं..

हे दोघे म्हणाले,

“अहो कशाला इतकं…नको आम्हाला..”

संकोच बाळगू नका,

आयुष्यात जे करायचं राहून गेलं ते आता तरी करू द्या..

म्हणजे?

म्हणजे…माझंही एक कुटुंब होतं,

मागच्या वर्षी कोरोनामध्ये माझी मुलगी आणि बायको दोघेही गेले,

मी एकटा पडलो,

मी तुमचं बोलणं ऐकलं, मी अगदी या मुलासारखा होतो,

खूप बचत करायचो, काटकसर करायचो..कंजूशी म्हटलं तरी चालेल..

त्या अतिरेकात कधी मुलीचा वाढदिवस साजरा केला नाही,

बायकोला कधी महागड्या हॉटेलमध्ये नेलं नाही..

दिवाळीला चांगली खरेदी करू दिली नाही..

फक्त पैसे वाचवत गेलो,

आज पुढची पिढी बसून खाऊ शकेल एवढा पैसा आहे, पण मला पुढची पिढीच नाही…

रोज इथे येऊन 1000 चं जेवण एकटा करू शकतो, 

5 स्टार हॉटेलमध्ये 1000 लोकांचे कार्यक्रम आरामात करू शकतो,

पण जेवायला सोबत बायको नाही,

आणि वाढदिवस साजरा करायला मुलगी नाही, 

त्यावेळी विचार आला,

आत्ता हा पैसा गाठीशी ठेवण्यापेक्षा… बायकोला तिच्या आवडीची महागडी साडी दिली असती तर? इतर मुलांसारखा माझ्या मुलीचाही वाढदिवस जोरात साजरा केला असता तर? किती खुश झाल्या असत्या त्या..

आज बँकेतील बॅलन्स बघून डोळ्यात पाणी येतं..

त्याकाळी ती हजार ची साडी मागत होती,

मी हटकलं होतं तिला,

तिचा हिरमुसलेला चेहरा आजही दिसतोय,

आणि आज त्या हजार पुढे अजून तीन शुन्य लागलेत,

ते तीन शून्य मला खायला उठतात,

माझी आयुष्य शून्यात जाऊन बसतं…

म्हणून एक सल्ला देईन,

बचत करा, काटकसर नक्कीच करा,

पण त्याचा अतिरेकही करू नका ..

भविष्याच्या चिंतेपायी,

वर्तमानकाळाचा आनंद गमावू नका..

आयुष्याचा काही भरवसा नाही,

कधी 360 अंशाने घुमेल, 

सांगता येत नाही,

एवढं सांगून तो माणूस वेटरकडे पैसे देऊन निघून गेला..

इकडे या दोघांनी त्याच्याबद्दल वाईट वाटत जेवणं केली,

शांतच होते,

घराकडे जात असताना तिच्या लक्षात आलं,

अहो कोणत्या रस्त्याने चाललोय आपण? घरी जायचा रस्ता तिकडून आहे ना?

हॉल बुक करायला चाललोय. तू पाहिलेला, तुझ्या आवडीचा…
