आरोहीच्या आत्याला दारात उभं पाहून आईला धक्काच बसतो, एक क्षण वाटलं की कदाचित आत्या आरोहीला घेऊन आल्या असतील, पण आरोही कुठे दिसत नव्हती.
“काय वहिनी, कश्या आहात?”
“मी मजेत..या ना आत..”
“बरं आरोही कुठेय? फार आठवण येते तिची..”
हे ऐकून आईला जबरदस्त धक्का बसतो, आरोही आणि तिच्या बाबांनी सांगितलं की आरोही आत्याला बरं नाही म्हणून तिच्या गावी गेली म्हणून, पण इथे तर…
“आरोही..”
“अच्छा ऑफिसमध्ये गेलीय का..ठिके, मी हात पाय धुवून येते..मस्त चहा टाक मला..”
आईला लक्षात येतं, एक तर आरोही खोटं बोलतेय नाहीतर तिचे बाबा..प्रकरण काहीतरी वेगळं आहे. पण आत्या समोर काही तमाशा नको म्हणून आईने मौन बाळगलं. वडिलांना तर दरदरून घाम फुटला होता, बहीण अशी अचानक न कळवता येईल याची त्यांना कल्पनाच नव्हती. आत्या खोलीत गेली तेव्हा इकडे आईने आरोहीच्या वडिलांना जाब विचारला..
“काय हो? काय प्रकार आहे हा??”
“मी सगळं सांगतो, आधी शांत हो..”
“अच्छा..म्हणजे बाप लेकीचं आधीच काहीतरी ठरलं होतं तर..मला फसवत होते काय तुम्ही? म्हणून..म्हणून आरोहिने बॅगेत भारीतले कपडे भरले, नंतर मला फोन करून माझ्यावर चिडली…कुठे गेलीये ती? सांगा मला. पटकन सांगा..”
“शांत हो, नीट ऐक.. आरोही तिच्या बिझनेस टूर वर गेली आहे..तू परवानगी देणार नाही म्हणून आम्ही हा प्लॅन केलेला..”
“टूर वर? क..को..कुणासोबत..”
“म्हणजे…बिझनेस टूर आहे, मानव सर आणि आरोही..”
“दोघेच??”
“हो..म्हणजे कामानिमित्त..”
“अहो हे काय करून बसलात तुम्ही? दोघेही तरुण आहेत, मानव दिसायला देखणा आहे, आरोहीसुद्धा सुंदर आहे, दोघांमध्ये सुत जुळायला वेळ लागणार नाही..”
“आणि जुळलं तरी काय वाईट?”
“काय वाईट? नातेवाईक शेण घालतील तोंडात..दुसऱ्या जातीचा आहे तो मुलगा..बॉस असला म्हणून काय झालं, असं कुणाच्याही मुलीला नेणं म्हणजे खेळ वाटला का??”
“हे बघ, तिला असं बंधन घातलं तर आयुष्यात करियर मध्ये मागे राहील ती, कधीच बोल्ड होणार नाही..बाहेर फिरली तर जगाच्या चार गोष्टी शिकेन तरी. ”
“मी कधी नाही म्हटलं? खुशाल जावं..जग फिरावं..पण कुणासोबत जातोय याचं भान असावं की नाही? मुक्कामाला गेलीय..दोघे कुठे राहत असतील. कुठे झोपत असतील..शी…आत्ताच्या आत्ता तिला फोन करून बोलावून घ्या..”
“फोन लागत नाहीये..”

चौथ्या दिवशी मानव आणि आरोहीला खास असं काम नव्हतं, रोहित सरांना अचानक बाहेरगावी जावं लागल्याने मिटिंग कॅन्सल झाली होती. आरोही आणि मानवला दिवसभर एकत्र वेळ मिळणार होता.
“आरोही, चल मी तुला जवळच्या एका पिकनिक स्पॉट वर घेऊन जातो. छान डोंगर आहे तिथे, खुप झाडं आहेत..”
“चालेल, असंही दिवसभर काय करणार आपण..”
मानवने ड्रायव्हरला त्या ठिकाणी कार घ्यायला लावली. कचहुबाजूंनी हिरवळ पसरली होती, समोर एक लहानसा डोंगर होता, गार हवेचा झोत सुरू होता..रस्त्याच्या या बाजूला ड्रायव्हरने गाडी उभी केली, हायवे ओलांडून पलीकडे तिकडे जायचं होतं. हायवे असल्याने भरधाव गाड्या येत जात होत्या.. रस्ता ओलांडायलाही मोठा होता. आरोही आणि मानव शेजारी शेजारी उभे, गाड्या संपायची वाट बघत होते.. आरोही पुढे पाय टाकणार तोच मानवने तिचा हात धरला..आणि मागे ओढलं..त्याची नजर गाड्यांकडे होती..पण ज्या हक्काने त्याने आरोहीचा हात पकडला होता, ज्या स्पर्शाने आरोहीचं तनमन अगदी सुखावून गेलं तो स्पर्श आरोहीला सोडवू वाटला नाही. एक विशेष ऊब त्या स्पर्शात होती..आयुष्यभर सोबत देण्याचा स्पर्श, आयुष्याच्या साथीदाराचा असावा असा स्पर्श..रस्ता ओलांडायचे ते 10 सेकंद, त्या सेकंदात आरोहीला त्या स्पर्शाने वेगळ्याच एका दुनियेत नेऊन ठेवलं. रस्ता ओलांडल्यानंतरही आरोहीचा हात अजूनही मानवच्या हातात होता. मानवाच्या लक्षात येताच त्याने हात सोडवला. दोघेही लाजले आणि पूढे चालू लागले..
“कसं आहे हे ठिकाण..”
“एकदम छान, अगदी रोमँटिक..”
“ओह…”
“खरंच ना, इतका छान गार वारा वाहतोय, इतका छान निसर्ग आहे..एखाद्याला प्रपोज करण्यासाठी उत्तम जागा आहे..”
“होका..मग..तुला तुझा लाईफ पार्टनर मिळाला की आण त्याला इथेच..”
“हो नक्की आणेन..”
“कसा हवाय तुला तुझा लाईफ पार्टनर?”
आरोही भान विसरून बोलायला लागते..आता मनातलं सांगून टाकावं, जगाची फिकीर नको..समाजाची चिंता नको..बोलून टाकावं मनातलं..सांगून टाकावं सगळं.
“तुमच्यासारखा..”
“सॉरी..??”
“म्हणजे…एक छानसा व्हाईट शर्ट, ब्लॅक जीन्स मध्ये माझ्या घरी येऊन माझ्या आईशी छानपैकी बोलणारा, बोलण्याने समोरच्याचं मन जिंकणारा..कर्तृत्ववान.. देखणा. ”
“म्हणजे मीच की..मिस आरोही, असं एकट्या मुलाला बघून फ्लर्ट करताय तुम्ही..”
“काहीही समजा…होय..मला तुम्हीच हवे आहात.. कायमचे..”
आरोहीच्या या उत्तरावर मानव चकित होतो. आरोही त्याला आवडत असतेच, पण तीच आधी प्रपोज करेल याची त्याला कल्पना नव्हती.
“आरोही, are you serious?”
“होय सर..तुम्ही सेल्समन बनून माझ्या घरी आलेला तेव्हाच तुम्हाला मी माझं हृदय बहाल केलेलं…नशिबाने पुन्हा आपली भेट घडवावी.. हेच वाटायचं…आणि तसच झालं, आपण पुन्हा भेटलो.. आता तुम्ही रस्ता ओलांडतांना जो स्पर्श केलात त्या स्पर्शात मला माझं जग सापडलं..होय, तुम्हीच आहात ते..”
मानव सुखावतो, त्यालाही आरोहीचं प्रेम हवंच असतं. दोघेही कितीतरी वेळ एकमेकांच्या डोळ्यात हरवून जातात. मानव पुन्हा एकदा आरोहीचा हात हातात घेतो, गुडघ्यांवर बसतो आणि तिला विचारतो..
“Will you marry me??”
आरोही क्षणाचाही विलंब न करता त्याला होकार देते आणि दोघेही एकमेकांच्या मिठीत सामावून जातात. दोघेही एकमेकांच्या प्रेमात आकंठ बुडालेले असतात, हातात हात घालून दोघेही हॉटेलवर परततात.
खोलीत आल्यानंतर आरोही एकटी विचार करत बसते, तिने प्रेमाची कबुली दिली आणि मानवनेही होकार दिला होता, हे सगळं आरोहीला स्वप्नवत वाटत होतं, भविष्याची स्वप्न ती रंगवू लागली. संध्याकाळी डिनरसाठी यायच्या आधी मानव तिच्या खोलीत आला आणि तिला एक गिफ्ट दिलं.
“आपल्या प्रेमाचं पहिलं गिफ्ट..” म्हणत तो हसत निघून गेला. तिने उघडून पाहिलं तर एक सुंदर मोत्यांची डिजाईन असलेला, शुभ्र असा वनपीस त्याने भेट दिलेला. ड्रेस चांगलाच महाग होता, डिनर साठी तिने तोच परिधान केला आणि डिनरसाठी खाली आली.मानव तिला बघतच राहिला, मानवच नाही तर हॉटेलमधील इतर लोकही नजरा वळवून बघतच राहिली, इतकी सुंदर ती दिसत होती. आज हॉटेलमध्ये डिनरची वेगळी सोय मानवने केली होती, शांत संगीत, candle light डिनर त्याने अरेंज केलं. सोबतच काही ड्रिंक्स..आरोही आणि मानव त्या रोमँटिक वातावरणात सुखद अनुभव घेत होते. दोघांनीही ड्रिंक्स घेतल्या, जेवण केली आणि मग आपापल्या रूम मध्ये गेली. थोड्या वेळात आरोहीच्या खोलीत मानव पुन्हा आला,
“आरोही, उद्या सकाळी लवकर निघायचं आहे आपल्याला.. सांगायचं राहिलं तुला..” मानव जायला निघणार तोच आरोहीने त्याचा हात पकडला. ड्रिंक्स मुळे दोघेही वेगळ्याच दुनियेत गेलेले, त्यांना भान नव्हतं. आरोहीने मानवला आत घेतलं आणि दरवाजा बंद करून घेतला. आणि पुढे त्यांनी जी मर्यादा ओलांडायला नको तीच ओलांडली…

सर्व आठवणींनी मानव एकदम भानावर आला, इतक्या वर्षानंतरही त्या आठवणी अजूनही त्याच्या मनात ताज्या होत्या..
