संध्याकाळी 6 वाजताची वेळ. अंधेरी मधील पोलीस स्टेशन नेहमीप्रमाणे गजबजलेलं…हवालदार फाईल्स चाळत होते, काही आरोपी जेलमधून सैरभैर बघत होते, काहीजण मार खात होते, पलाश साठी हे सगळं चित्त विचलित करणारं होतं. पण तरीही तो विचलित होत नव्हता. शून्यात नजर भिडवून तो खाली फरशीकडे बघत होता.
इतक्यात एक हवालदार फाईल घेऊन जवळ येतो, पलाश चं लक्ष नसतं..

“साहेब…ओ साहेब..”

“अं..??”

पलाश गोंधळतो..

“सही करा..”

पलाश त्या कागदाकडे एकदा बघतो.. त्याचे हात काही उचलत नाही..

“घ्या पेन..”

पलाश तरीही काहीही ते पेन घेत नाही..

“अंगठा चालेल??”

“काय??”

एक मोठा लेखक सही साठी अंगठा का देतोय या विचाराने हवालदार गडबडतो…

“अंगठा..”

हवालदार शाई आणतो आणि अंगठा घेतो..विचित्र नजरेने अंगठ्याचा ठश्यावर फुंकर घालत निघून जातो.

“तुम्ही…इकडे या.”

पोलीस बोलवतात तसा पलाश तिकडे जातो.

“काय तक्रार आहे आपली??”

“साहेब…तुमचा विश्वास बसणार नाही पण..”

“वेळ नाही आमच्याकडे पटकन बोला..”

“साहेब..मी एक लेखक आहे..नुकतीच मी एक कादंबरी प्रकाशित केली आहे…”शस्त्र” नावाची..”

“बरं मग? ..”

“साहेब मी एक लेखक असून एका लेखकाच्या आयुष्यावरच ही कादंबरी लिहिली आहे…”

“मग हा तुमचा गुन्हा आहे का?”

“साहेब चेष्टेचा विषय नाहीये हा…मी त्यात लिहिलेला एकेक शब्द खरा होतोय..त्यातली एकेक घटना सत्यात उतरतेय..”

“काही वेड बीड लागलंय का तुम्हाला?”

“साहेब विश्वास ठेवा…मी खरं बोलतोय…”

“काय काय खरं झालंय?”

“साहेब..त्या लेखकाची सुद्धा अशीच गत होते… त्याने लिहिलेलं सगळं खरं होतं…तो वेडावतो… आणि पोलीस स्टेशन ला जातो…”

“जसं तुम्ही आता आलेला आहात..”

“Exactly सर..”

“मी लिहिलेलं सगळं खरं होतंय..”

“मिस्टर पलाश, तुम्ही इथे नाही, एखाद्या हॉस्पिटलमध्ये जायला हवं…तुमची मानसिक स्थिती ठीक दिसत नाहीये..”

“साहेब…मी एकदम होश मध्ये आहे…माझं बोलणं मनावर घ्या..”

“काय बोलताय तुम्ही? तुम्ही जे लिहिलंय त्यात तुम्ही इतकं समरस झाला असाल की आता प्रत्यक्ष आयुष्यातही तुम्हाला तेच अनुभव येताय..”

“नाही साहेब…पुढे जे होणार आहे ते होऊ नये म्हणून..”

“हवालदार… यांना बाहेर काढा..”

दोन हवालदार येऊन पलाश ला बाहेर काढण्याचा प्रयत्न करतात…

“साहेब ऐका माझं…हे खुप सिरीयस आहे…सर एकाचा जीव जाणार आहे….सर…अंधेरी च्या मॉल मध्ये सानिकाचा सुरा खुपसत मृत्यू होणार आहे सर…”

“काढा रे याला बाहेर..”


इतक्यात त्या पोलिसाला एक फोन येतो..

“साहेब…अंधेरी मॉल मध्ये सानिका नामक मुलीचा सुरा खुपसून खून झालाय..”

पोलीस एकदम उठून उभे राहतात…पलाश कडे एकदा बघतात…कपाळावरचा घाम पुसतात…

“सोडा त्याला…मिस्टर पलाश तुम्ही इकडे या..”
