मनीष अगदी सहजतेने नकार देतो आणि सोफ्यावर आडवा होऊन हेडफोन लावून आपली मुव्ही continue करतो..

साधना त्याला काहीही न बोलता पटकन ओढणी अंगावर घेते, अर्धवट दिलेल्या फोडणीचा गॅस बंद करते, आपल्या एक वर्षाच्या मुलीला कडेवर घेते आणि पायऱ्या उतरून खाली दुकानात जाते..

मनीष एरवी ऑफिस च्या कामामुळे दिवसभर बाहेर असायचा, पण आता lockdown मुळे महिनाभर घरीच होता. साधनाला वाटायचं कधी नव्हत ते यांना आराम मिळतोय त्यात आपण यांना कामं सांगायची, म्हणून तीही मनीष ला जास्त काही सांगायची नाही..

सगळे घरी असल्याने तिची फार धावपळ होत होती, त्यात बेडवर पडून असलेल्या सासूबाई, अंगकाठी अगदी कृश झालेली, वजन जेमतेम निम्म्यावर आलेलं, आजाराने ग्रासून त्यांना बेडवर कायमचं आणून झोपवलं. त्यांचं पथ्य, औषधं सगळं साधना सांभाळत होती. त्यांनी आज धिरडे मागितले अन बेसन संपलं होतं. ती घाईघाईत जाऊन आणते आणि सासूबाईंना वाढते..

“अहो जेवून घ्या…”

“नंतर जेवेल मी…”

“अहो सकाळपासून काही खाल्लेलं नाही…जेवून घ्या मग बघा मुव्ही..”

मनीष काहीच उत्तर देत नाही..

साधना मुलीला खाऊ घालून तिला ती झोपवते आणि पुन्हा घरातली कामं करण्यात मग्न होऊन जाते..

मनीष का त्याच्या मित्रांनी नवीन धंद्याला लावून दिलं..एकेक करून त्यांनी मोबाईल वर पायरेटेड मुव्हीज पाठवले आणि मनीष ने ते सगळे पाहायचा ध्यासच घेतलेला..सकाळी चहा घेतला अन अंघोळ न करताच त्याने मुव्ही पाहायला सुरवात केली, दुपार झाली तरी ती जागचा हलला नाही..कानात हेडफोन असल्याने मुलीचा रडण्याचा आवाज, साधना ची हाक काहीएक तो ऐकत नव्हता..

तो मुव्ही मध्ये अगदी रमून गेला होता..त्यातल्या हिरोईन च्या तो अगदी प्रेमातच पडलेला..गोरापान रंग, सडसडीत बांधा, त्या अदा, ते भुरभुरणारे केस…तिच्या त्या रुपाकडे बघत असतानाच साधना समोर आली, इतक्या आकर्षक हिरोईन पासून त्याचं लक्ष साधना कडे गेलं…घामाने बरबटलेलं शरीर, तेलकट केस, कपड्यांना फोडण्यांचा वास, बाळंतपणा नंतर सुटलेलं पोट, बेढब शरीर पाहून तिची तुलना तो त्या हिरॉईनशी करू लागला आणि नकळतपणे साधना कडे “नकोसेपणा” चा कटाक्ष टाकला.

“अहो आता तरी जेवून घ्या..”

“काय कटकट आहे यार…तू निघ इथून..मला पाहू दे मुव्ही..”

साधनाला वाईट वाटलं, ती तिथून निघाली…इतक्यात सासूबाईंच्या खोलीतून कन्हाण्याचा आवाज आला..साधना धावत गेली तसं तिने पाहिलं…सासूबाईंना फिट आले होते…अश्या वेळी तातडीने दवाखान्यात नेणं जरुरी होतं..साधना घाबरून मनीष ला आवाज देत होती…पण हेडफोन मूळे त्याला काही ऐकू जाईना…तिने पळत येऊन त्याच्या कानातले हेडफोन काढून फेकले…तो चिडला..

“अहो आईंना दवाखान्यात न्यावं लागेल..”

मनीष घाबरतो…चटकन उठतो, काय करावं त्याला सुचेना… तो धावत शेजारी जातो, मदत मागतो..

पण साधना प्रसंग ओळखून चटकन सगळी ताकद एकटवून सासूबाईंना उचलते…मनीष ची वाट न बघता शेजारच्या माईला मुलीकडे लक्ष ठेवायला घरी बसवते आणि 4 जिने सासूबाईंना उचलत खाली उतरते…आणि घराच्या समोरच्या बिल्डिंग मध्ये असलेल्या डॉक्टर कडे रस्ता ओलांडून जाते…

मनीष घाम पुसत घरी येतो, माई त्याला सांगते की साधना ताई समोरच्या हॉस्पिटलमध्ये गेली आहे..

मनीष पळत तिकडे जातो, डॉक्टर सांगत असतात..

“दोन मिनिटही उशीर झाला असता तर अवघड झालं असतं, बरं झालं तुम्ही वेळेवर आणलंत…”

कल्पनेच्या विश्वात हिरॉईनच्या प्रेमात पडलेल्या मनीष ने आज त्याच्या आयुष्यातील खरा हिरो पाहिला…. अन पाश्चातापाच्या नजरेने तो साधना चं आंतरिक सौंदर्य बघतच राहिला…

Die Preisverleihung im Berlinale Palast würdigte Scorsese als einen der prägendsten Regisseure der internationalen Filmgeschichte.
