शिखा च्या सासऱ्यांनी आता जमिनीचे व्यवहार हाती घेतले होते…त्यांनी बरीच मोठी शेती पाहिली अन माणसं लावून मार्गाला लावली, शेतातून चांगलं उत्पन्न येत होतं, त्यांना काही काम शिल्लक नव्हतं… जमीन बरीच असल्याने त्यांच्याकडे ग्राहक येत असत, सासरे तसं जमीन विकायच्या विचारात नव्हते पण काही दिवसांपासून त्यांना अनेक आमिष दाखवण्यात येत होती…सासऱ्यांच्या त्याच बैठका चालू असायच्या…
शिखाची आता किचन मध्ये एन्ट्री झाली होती…सुरवातीला कणिक मळणं, भाजी चिरून देणं अशी कामं ती करत असे…
काम करता करता सासूबाई विचारतात…
“काय गं… तुला तर सगळंच येत असणार…”
“हो …म्हणजे येतं बऱ्यापैकी..”
“म्हणूनच आम्ही अशिक्षित मुलगी बघतो नेहमी..”

“बरं ऐक, संध्याकाळी तुझ्या सासऱ्यांची एक बैठक आहे…10 माणसं असतील, जेवण करूनच जाणार आहेत…आणि स्वयंपाक आपल्या दोघींनाच बनवायचा आहे…बाकीच्या बायका सगळ्या एका सोहळ्याला जाणार आहेत…तेव्हा आपण घरात असू…”
“बरं.. काय काय बनवायचं आहे?”
“खीर, पुऱ्या, उसळ, भात, शिरा, कोशिंबीर, सुकी भाजी…अजून जे आठवेल ते..”
“चालेल, मी बनवेंन..”

शिखा संध्याकाळी पुन्हा किचन मध्ये येते..घडाळ्यात साडे 6 वाजलेले असतात..सासूबाईं म्हणतात…

इतक्यात सासरे येतात..

“सासूबाईं…दुपारी तुम्ही झोपायला गेलात तेव्हा मी सासऱ्यांना विचारून घेतलं, की पाहुणे कधी येणार…त्यांनी सांगितलं की पाहुणे 6 वाजताच येतील कोल्हापुरहुन…मला माहित होतं की कोल्हापूर ला परत जाणारी बस संध्याकाळी आठ वाजता असते, मग त्या आधी त्यांना जेवण घालून पोचतं करावं लागेल..मी तुम्हाला त्रास न देता दुपारीच सगळी तयारी केली…खिरीसाठी तांदूळ धुवून शिजवून ठेवले… वेलदोडे आणि सुका मेवा बारीक करून ठेवला, कणकेचं पीठ मळून ठेवलं, कोशिंबीर करून फ्रीज मध्ये ठेवली, बटाटे उकडून ठेवले, उसळ शिजवून ठेवली, मसाला तयार करून ठेवला… आणि मग पाहुणे आल्यावर फक्त गरमा गरम फोडणी दिली..”
सासूबाईं आ वासून बघतच राहिल्या…घरात सोहळा पार पाडून बाकीच्या बायका घरी आल्या अन सासूबाईंनी तासभर सूनेचं कौतुक केलं..
