श्वेता अडचणीत सापडली, एकीकडे तिला श्रीधर आवडत होता, पण लग्न झालेलं असल्याने असा विचार मनात आणायलाही ती घाबरायची, पण क्रांतीसाठी श्रीधरला पटवायचं हे तिला जरा अवघडच होतं..

“ऐक, आज संध्याकाळी त्याला भेटायला जायचं..”

“अगं माझ्यासारख्या लग्न झालेल्या बाईने असं त्याला भेटायला जाणं चांगलं वाटतं का??”

श्रीधर श्वेताकडे बघतच राहिला..

“असं काय बघतोय? याचं उत्तर हवंय, उद्या येईल मी परत तेव्हा सांग काय ते..”

श्रीधर चक्रावून जातो, खाली बसून घेतो…श्वेताने वाचलेले शब्द त्याच्या कानात घुमत असतात आणि त्या क्षणाला त्याच्या चेहऱ्यावर एकदम हसू फुटतं. आयुष्यभर जी गोष्ट ऐकण्यासाठी तो झुरत होता ती गोष्ट श्वेताने आज बोलून दाखवली. त्या क्षणी त्याला भूतकाळ भविष्यकाळ कशाशीही घेणं नव्हतं, त्याला फक्त वर्तमान प्रिय होता..श्वेताचं लग्न झालंय वगैरे सगळं तो विसरून गेला होता. पत्राचं उत्तर काय देणार याचा विचार करत तो घरी गेला…

श्वेता घरी येताच क्रांती तिला घेरते,

“काय म्हणाला तो??”

“उद्या देणारे उत्तर..” श्वेता वैतागून म्हणाली..

“तसं नाही गं, त्याच्या मनात कुणी दुसरी कुणी असेल तर??”

“काय चाललंय तुझं केव्हाचं..दुसरं कुणी असेल तर दुसरं कुणी असेल तर..कोण आहे त्याच्या मनात..”

“अगं ए चिडू नकोस, मी करते तुझ्यासाठी प्रयत्न..”

“आता कशी माझी मैत्रीण शोभतेस..”

श्वेताने मोठ्या मुश्किलीने बनावट हसू चेहऱ्यावर आणलं..

त्या रात्री तिला झोप लागेना…ती आकाशातल्या चंद्राकडे बघू लागली..त्याला सांगू लागली..

“क्रांती सारखं मलाही हिम्मत का नाही दिलीस?? हिम्मत दिली असतीस तर कदाचित…नाही नाही, हे काय, काय बोलतेय मी..लग्न झालंय माझं..असा विचार करणं व्यभिचार आहे..नाही..”

ती परत बेडकडे वळणार तोच तिला घराजवळच्या नदीकाठच्या ठिकाणी श्रीधर दिसला..तोही चंद्राशीच बोलत होता..

“काय बोलत असेल हा?? क्रांती चा विचार करत नसेल ना?? पण मग त्या चंद्राला कशाला सांगायचं त्याने? चंद्र फक्त आमच्या दोघांची गुपितं जपून ठेवायला आहे, त्यात तिसरं कुणी नको ..”

दुसऱ्या दिवशी श्वेता महान सोबत शेतात त्याला मदत करायला जाते, शेतात 2 नवीनच बुजगावणी तिला दिसतात,

“दादा, अरे हे कधी ठेवले? किती गमतीशीर दिसताय..”

“हे कुणी केलं?? मी तर नाही केलेलं..”

“मग दुसरं कोण करणार??”

दोघेही त्या बुजगावण्यांजवळ जातात, एक उंच आणि एक बुटकं बुजगावणं लांब लांब लावलेले असतात..श्वेता त्या बुटक्या बुजगावण्याजवळ जाऊन त्याला कुरवाळते..

“किती गोंडस आहे नाही का?”

असं म्हणताच ते बुजगावनं हात पाय हलवायला लागतं आणि वेड्यासारखं नाचायला लागतं..श्वेता जोरात किंचाळते… सैरावैरा पळत सुटते..मोहन धीर धरून त्या बुजगावण्याला पकडतो आणि त्यातल्या पिंट्याला बाहेर काढतो.

“काय रे..अभ्यास नाही का तुला…काय उद्योग चाललेत..”

मोहन पिंट्याच्या पाठीवर धपाटा टाकत त्याला हाकलून लावतो..अन त्वेषाने त्या मोठ्या बुजगावण्याजवळ जातो..बुजगावनं स्थिर असतं पण जसा मोहन जवळ जात असतो तसं ते पळायला लागतं.. मोहन मागे अन बुजगावनं पुढे… आपली इज्जत वाचवायला ते बुजगावनं सैरावैरा पळत सुटतं..
