“दुर्गावती देवींनी कुठेही उल्लेख केलेला नाहीये की त्यांनी शेयर मार्केट मध्ये गुंतवणूक केली आहे ते, इतकं मोठं पुस्तक लिहितांना त्याचा उल्लेख करणं का टाळलं असावं? दुर्गावती हुशार होती, चलाख होती, पुस्तक कुणा दुसऱ्याच्या हाती पडलं असतं अन त्याचा दुरुपयोग झाला असता तर? यात इतकी मोठी संपत्ती आहे हे जर कुणाला समजलं असतं तर पुस्तकासाठी भांडणं झाली असती, मालकी हक्कासाठी भावंडात वाद झाले असते,दुर्गावतीने हे कागद त्यांनाच मिळण्याची सोय केली होती ज्यांनी या पुस्तकाचा शेवटपर्यंत अभ्यास केला अन पुस्तकातलं मर्म जाणून घेतलं.
शुभदाला आठवलं, दुर्गावतीने काही संकेत दिले होते. ती जेनीचा उल्लेख करायची,तिला सगळी माहिती असायची असा उल्लेख दुर्गावतीने केलेला, तसंच ती खूप हुशार होती असंही म्हटलं गेलं होतं. तिच्या सोबत मी बॉम्बे ऑफिसला जायचे असा 3 वेळा उल्लेख केला गेलेला, आणि शेवटी शेवटी “मी पहिल्यांदा ऑफिसच्या आत गेले, अंगठा दिला” असा काहीसा संकेत दिला होता. बॉम्बे ऑफिस म्हणजेच BSE, bombay stock exchange चं ऑफिस. आजही जिथे शेयर मार्केटला लोकं घाबरतात, तिथे 1800 च्या शतकात दुर्गावतीने ती गोष्ट समजून घेऊन आपल्या पुढील पिढ्यांना भरघोस आर्थिक फ़ायदा कसा होईल याचा विचार केला होता. तिची जमापुंजी तरी किती असावी? 50 रुपये? 100 रुपये?? यांची किंमत पुढे कमी होणार हेही ती जाणून होती, म्हणूनच मूल्य वाढवणारी गुंतवणूक त्या काळातल्या गुलामीत वावरणाऱ्या अशिक्षित स्त्रीने इतकी मोठी दूरदृष्टी ठेऊन करावी याहून मोठं दिव्यत्वाचं दर्शन ते काय असेल?
“आज जर दुर्गावती सारखी हुशार अन चलाख स्त्री असती तर? तिने कधीच जगावर राज्य केलं असतं..” शुभदाच्या मनात हा विचार तरळून गेला.
तिकडे दिगंबरपंतांच्या वार्ड मध्ये नेहमीप्रमाणे नर्स त्यांची सलाईन रिफिल करायला गेली. तिच्या कानावर रेकॉर्ड केलेली वाक्य पडली अन शुभदाची चलाखी तिला समजली. दिगंबरपंतांशी जे बोलायचं होतं ते तिने स्तोत्राच्या शेवटी टाकलेलं..पण नर्सने काहीही आक्षेप घेतला नाही, कारण जेव्हा जेव्हा ही वाक्य कानी पडायची तेव्हा तेव्हा माशीनवरील आकडे नॉर्मल व्हायचे. असं बऱ्याचदा झालेलं नर्सने पाहिलं. अखेर तिने एक शक्कल लढवली, रेकॉर्डिंग मधली फक्त ती शेवटची वाक्य सलग सुरू ठेवली, ती संपली की पुन्हा फास्ट फॉरवर्ड करत नर्स ती वाक्य पुन्हा चालू करे..
“संकटं ही माणसाला घडवतात, धीट बनवतात, नव्याने उभी करतात, संकटाच्या डोळ्यात डोळे घालून बघा, पहा आपल्या एकाच कटाक्षाने कसं नामोहरम होतं ते. आपली इच्छाशक्ती ही भल्याभल्या संकटांना गारद करते, हे नेहमी लक्षात असुद्या”
