सुईण आत गेली अन इकडे दादारावांची धडधड वाढली, मुलीचं दुसरं बाळंतपण होतं. रात्रीपासून रमा कळा काढत होती, आईने धीर देत कळ काढायला लावली, दादासाहेब बाहेर येरझारा घालत स्वतःशीच बोलत होते..
“सुखरूप होऊ दे रे देवा…आजकाल शहरातून काय काय ऐकायला येतं.. आधीसारखं कुठे राहिलं आता..माझी लेक अन नातू सुखरूप ठेव..”
रमेची लगबगीने आई बाहेर पाणी घ्यायला बाहेर आली, दादासाहेबांनी विचारलं..
“कशी आहे रमा? केव्हा होईल मोकळी??”
“होईल लवकरच, थोडी कळ काढावी लागेल..धीर धरवत नाही वाटतं नातवाला भेटायला..”

रमेचा ओरडा, गयावया करणं दादासाहेबांना ऐकू येत होतं आणि ते अजून कासावीस होत होते. तेवढ्यात त्यांचा गडी रामू धावत आला..
“दादासाहेब..मळ्यात चला..लवकर..”
“अरे इथे पोर मोकळी होत नाहीये, परिस्थिती काय..असं सोडून कसं येऊ??”
“दादासाहेब तुम्ही आला नाहीत तर गणू अन शामु जीव घेतील एकमेकांचा..”
“परत जुंपली का दोघांत??”
“होय दादा..आता तर कुऱ्हाडी हातात घेऊन आलेत ते..”
आवाज ऐकून रमेची आई धावतच आली.
“अहो जावा तुम्ही, इथे मी हाये…नातवापायी स्वतःची पोरं गमावून बसाल..जा..”
जड मनाने दादासाहेब लगबगीने मळ्यात जायला निघाले.
रामू अन शामु, दादासाहेबांचे दोन्ही मुलं. दोघेही शिकले तर नाहीच, शेतीतही मन रमलं नाही. घराबद्दल, आई बापाबद्दल त्यांना काहीही पडलेली नव्हती. उलट लग्न झाल्यावर दोघांनी वाटा मागून आपापला संसार मळ्यात थाटला. त्यातही जमिनीवरून, पिकवरून दोघांत कायम वाद चालायचे. ज्या वयात आई बापाला सांभाळायचं त्या वयात बापालाच मुलांना सांभाळावं लागे. कितीदा त्यांच्या भांडणात पडून दादासाहेबांनी प्रकरण मिटवलं होतं..”
“रामू तू घरला जा..गडी माणूस पाहिजे तिथे..इतलं मी बघतो..”
रामू घरी गेला. दादासाहेब पोचले तेव्हा अक्षरशः हाणामारी सुरू होती. दादासाहेबांनी गणुला पकडलं अन बाजूला केलं..शामु ला दम दिला..गणू शिवीगाळ करायला लागला तर त्यालाही गप केलं..शब्दाला शब्द लागतच होता, कुणीही माघार घेत नव्हतं..
“अरे तिकडं तुमची बहीण जिवाच्या आकांताने कळ काढतेय अन इथे तुमचं हे सुरू..जरा तरी बहिणीबद्दल काही वाटू द्या..”
“आम्हाला ते काय सांगू नको..जमीन दिली तर उपकार केले का..विहीर स्वतःकडच ठेवली..आता पाणी कुठून आणायचं आम्ही..”
दोघेही बापावरच उलटत होते.
तिकडे सुईनीच्या लक्षात आलं, प्रकरण गुंतागुंतीचं आहे ते..तिने रामुला पाठवून डॉक्टरला आणायला लावलं तसा रामुने बैलगाडी काढत दवाखाना गाठला. डॉक्टर तडक घरी आले..
“रक्त कमी झालं आहे, तातडीने रक्ताची बाटली लागेल..”
“अरे देवा..आता कुठून आणायची..”
“नाहीतर तुमच्यात कुणाचा रक्तगट A positive असेल तर चटकन दान करा..”

दादासाहेब घरी आले, डोक्यातून रक्ताची धार वाहत होती..त्यांचं सगळं लक्ष घराकडे.. रमेची आई बाहेर बोटं मोडत बसलेली..आक्का रमेची काळजी घेत आतच होती.
“रमा कुठाय..”
“अहो, हे डोक्याला काय झालं??” तिने पटकन डोक्यावर हळद चोळली, कपडा बांधला..
“रमा कुठाय..”
“आहे आत..”
“अगं काय झालं नीट सांग तरी..झाली की ती मोकळी??”
“हो झाली..इतक्या कळा काढल्या, अन झालं काय.. पुन्हा मुलगी..आल्या आल्या संकट आणलं आईवर, रक्त कमी पडलं.. बरी आक्का आली वेळेवर अन तिनं रक्त दिलं..”
“अरेवा…दुसऱ्यांदा लक्ष्मी आली म्हणायची..”
“या तिच्या पहिल्या लेकीनेच नाट लावली, पाठीवर भाऊ जन्माला घालायचं सोडून परत पोरच आणली..”
“रमे…थोबाड बंद कर आता..दोन पोरींच्या पाठीशी तुझ्या हट्टापायी गणू अन शामुला जन्म दिला..काय ऋण फेडलं त्यांनी? आज रमेच्या मदतीला तिची बहीण, आक्का धावून आली..अन तुझी पोरं? पैशापायी भांडत बसली..बहिणीची काळजी तर नाहीच, वर माझ्या डोक्याला ही रक्ताची धार लागलीय ना, हे त्यांचेच प्रताप…अगं दोन पोरींवर थांबलो असतो तर आज जमीनही वाचली असती अन तुझ्या नवऱ्याच्या डोक्यावरची जखम पण..”
रमेची आई तोंडाला पदर लावते.. शकू जवळ येते..
“आजी तू नको ना रडू, मी बाळाला सांभाळीन..तिला गंध पावडर करीन, अंघोळ घालून देईन..तू नको रडू..”
तिने शकुला जवळ घेतलं, तिचे पटापट मुके घेतले..डोक्यावरून हात फिरवला..
“नाही रडणार पोरी, आता कधीच नाही रडणार. लोकांना अभिमानाने सांगेन, पोरीच्या पाठीशी पोर जन्माला आली..जशी रमेच्या पाठी आक्का धावून आली..राम्या.. जा तालुक्याला जाऊन मलई बर्फी आण चांगली किलोभर..” नाकातली सोन्याची मुरनी रामुच्या हातात ठेवत रमेच्या आईने फर्मान काढलं. .
