मुलगा आणि मुलगी दोघेही एकमेकांना पसंत होते, मुलाची नोकरी, स्वभाव, वागणूक बघून मानसला नाही म्हणण्यासारखं काहीही नव्हतं. निशाच्या आईची मात्र मनात घालमेल सुरू होती. स्थळ चांगलं असलं तर नुसतं तेवढ्यावर भागत नाही, मुलीला नवऱ्यासोबतच इतर नाती सांभाळावी लागतील, नवरा वाट्याला कमी येणार आणि इतर लोकांच्या सेवेत पूर्ण आयुष्य जाणार हे आईला माहीत होतं. या पुढच्या गोष्टींचा विचार फक्त आईच करू शकते, वडिलांना तर केवळ मुलाकडे पैसे आहेत आणि मुलगा चांगला आहे एवढं पुरेसं असतं, चार भिंतीच्या आत चालत असलेली घुसमट फार कमी पुरुषांना कळते.
निशाच्या आईच्या मनातील घुसमट मानसच्या आईने बरोबर हेरली. काहीतरी बिनसतंय हे तिच्या लक्षात आलं, मानस ला एक लहान भाऊ, मुलीची हौस आता सुनेवर पूर्ण करायची अशी स्वप्न घेऊन मानसची आई निशामध्ये मुलीला बघत होती. पण निशाच्या आईच्या मनात असलेली घालमेल आपल्याला समजयलाच हवी या विचाराने मानसची आई निशाच्या आईला बाजूला घेऊन बोलू लागली.
“ताई, मी कधीपासून बघतेय, या लग्नापासून तुम्ही खुश नाहीत का? तुम्हाला काही शंका आहेत का? मला मोकळेपणाने विचारा..”
होणाऱ्या विहिनबाई म्हणजे त्यांना कमालीचा मान द्यावा लागतो हे आईला माहीत होतं, त्यांच्यासमोर असं बोलणं म्हणजे स्वतःच्याच मुलीच्या संसारावर कुऱ्हाड मारण्यासारखं आहे हे आई जाणून होती.
“काही नाही ताई, मुलगी आता दूर जाणार ना, म्हणून..”
“नाही, ही ती चिंता नाहीये..मीही एक आई आहे, आईच्या नजरेतून सगळं समजतं की नक्की कशाबद्दल सल आहे ते..”
निशाची आई पेचात सापडली, सांगितलं तरी अडचण नाही सांगितलं तरी अडचण..धीर करून आई विचार करते, की उद्या काही वाईट घडण्यापेक्षा आत्ताच सगळं स्पष्ट बोलून टाकावं..
“ताई, कदाचित माझं बोलणं तुम्हाला स्वार्थीपणाचं वाटेल..पण अनुभवातून बोलतेय..”
“मला स्पष्ट सांगा..”
“हे बघा, माझं पूर्ण आयुष्य एकत्र कुटुंबात गेलं. लग्नाआधी भावंडांसोबत वाढताना आई वडिलांचं प्रेमही वाटून घ्यावं लागलं, ऍडजस्ट करायची सवय लागली, पण जितकी नाती जोडली गेली तितक्या जखमा वाढत गेल्या, प्रत्येकाचं मन आपल्यासारखं नसतं.. भावंडं कुरबुरी करत, वस्तू हिसकावून घेत आणि आई वडील तुझाच भाऊ आहे म्हणत नेहमी आम्हालाच समजून घ्यायला लावत..पुढे सर्वजण आपापल्या मार्गाला लागले, त्यांनी मागे वळून पाहिलंही नाही, ज्या भावंडांसाठी आम्ही कित्येक गोष्टी सोडल्या त्यांनी मात्र आमचा तसूभरही विचार न करता आपला स्वार्थ पाहिला. मग वाटायला लागलं, का राहत होतो आपण एकत्र? का दाखवत होतो समजूतदारपणा? लग्न झालं आणि इथेही एकत्र कुटुंब, नवरा माझ्या वाट्याला कधी आलाच नाही. पूर्ण वेळ आई वडील भाऊ बहीण यांच्यात जात असे, आणि मी जुंपले गेले घरातल्या कामांना, आमचा म्हणून असा काही संसार नव्हताच. घरातल्या सर्वांचे भार पेलण्यासाठी दोन बैल जुंपले जातात त्यासाठीच आमचं लग्न लावून दिलेलं, म्हणजे हे घरातल्या सर्वांचं बघणार आणि मी घरातली कामं. कितीतरी स्वप्न सोडून दिली, कितीतरी गोष्टींचा त्याग केला. पण एवढं सगळं करण्याने जर सर्वांना त्याची जाणीव असती तर एकवेळ समाधान झालंही असतं, पण आज आम्हा दोघांवर स्वार्थीपणाचा आरोप लावून सर्वजण मोकळे झाले. आता वाटायला लागलं, ज्यांच्यासाठी इतकं केलं त्यांना काडीची किंमत नाही, मग का उगीच त्याग केला आपण? का सोडली आपली स्वप्न वाऱ्यावर? ही लोकं आता आपल्याला स्वार्थी म्हणताय, खरोखरच आधीपासून स्वार्थी असायला हवं होतं, निदान आयुष्याचा आनंद तरी घेतला असता..”
निशाची आई सगळी सल बोलून टाकते. ऐकून मानसच्या आईच्या डोळ्यातही पाणी येतं. तीही सांगायला लागते..
“एकीकडे तुम्हाला माणसांनी त्रास दिला आणि दुसरीकडे माणसं नाहीत म्हणून मला त्रास झाला..”
“म्हणजे??”
“म्हणजे माझी परिस्थिती तुमच्या अगदी उलट. लहानपणी भाऊ दुसऱ्या गावी शिकायला, गावी आई मी अन बाबा फक्त, खेळायला कुणी नाही, बोलायला कुणी नाही. दिवस खायला उठायचा. लग्नानंतर फक्त नवरा आणि मी, म्हणायला राजा राणीचा संसार, पण त्या एकटेपणाने माझ्या मनावर परिणाम होऊ लागला. मनातली सल सांगायची कोणाला? त्याकाळात मोबाईल नव्हते, दिवसभर भिंतीकडे फक्त बघत बसायचं. एखादा नातेवाईक आला तरी खूप आनंद व्हायचा. दोन मुलं झाली, तीही त्यांच्या मित्रात, शाळेत रमली आणि पुन्हा एकटेपणा. एकदा तर दोन्ही मुलं खेळायला गेली असता घरात चक्कर येऊन पडले, शेजारचे नेमके गावी गेलेले. मिस्टर ऑफिसमध्ये. कुणाला बोलावणार? फोन करायची सोय नाही..शेवटी हिम्मत करून खालच्या मजल्यावर जाऊन मदत मागितली, त्यांनी सरळ मदतीला नकार दिला. मग मुलांनीच रडत रडत मला घरी नेलं, घाबरतच एका काकूंना बोलावून आणलं आणि सरबत पाजलं. ती बाई निघून गेली, पोरं भुकेने तळमळत होती अन मला उठताही येत नव्हतं. मग मिस्टर उशिरा आले अन त्यांनी कसाबसा भात टाकून सर्वांना जेऊ घातलं. तेव्हापासून ठरवलं, आपल्या मुलांना आणि सुनांना कधीही एकटं पडू द्यायचं नाही, माणसांच्या गराड्यात असलं की माणसाला आधारासाठी भीक मागावी लागत नाही..”
मानसच्या आईनेही सर्व सल बोलून दाखवली, निशाच्या आईला विचार करायला भाग पाडलं. दोघींनाही समजलं, एकत्र कुटुंबाची आणि विभक्त कुटुंबाची झळ दोघींनाही पोचलेली, पण त्यातून झालेले फायदे दोघींच्याही नजरेतून सुटत होते.
निशाच्या आईला प्रायव्हसी नसली तरी ती कधी एकटी पडली नव्हती, आणि मानसच्या आईला एकटेपणा असला तरी नवऱ्यासोबत मनसोक्त प्रायव्हसी मिळत गेली.
“हे बघा, आपल्या दोघींनाही संसाराच्या झळा पोचल्या आहेत, त्यातून धडा घेत आपल्या मुलांबाबतीत असं होऊ नये म्हणून आपण प्रयत्न करतोय, तेव्हा अजून एक प्रयत्न करायला काय हरकत आहे?”
“कुठला प्रयत्न??”
“एकत्र राहून प्रायव्हसी जपण्याची आणि प्रायव्हसी असून माणसांच्या उबेत वाढण्याची एक सोय केली तर??”
“म्हणजे नेमकं कसं??”
“म्हणजे दोघे आमच्या नजरेसमोर असतील, पण त्यांच्या संसारात, निर्णयात आम्ही हस्तक्षेप करणार नाही, दोघांना प्रायव्हसी कशी मिळेल याची खबरदारी घेतली जाईल. दिवसातून जास्तीत जास्त वेळ नवरा बायकोला एकमेकांसोबत कसा घालवता येईल आणि इतर वेळ कुटुंबियांना कसा देता येईल याचे प्रयत्न केले जातील, घरात कुठलाही प्रसंग असो, कार्यक्रम असो, ती जबाबदारी पुरुषांसकट सर्वांना वाटून देण्यात येईल, एकट्या व्यक्तीवर कधीच कुठला भार येऊ देणार नाही, अडचणीच्या वेळी पूर्ण कुटुंब दोघांसोबत असेल, आणि आनंदाचे क्षण उपभोगायला दोघांना वेगळा असा वेळ दिला जाईल..”
