 “मिस डायना आजही ती फाईल सापडत नाहीये, नीटनेटकेपणा का नाहीये पूर्ण स्टाफ मध्ये?”

“सॉरी सर..याची सॉफ्ट कॉपी आहे..ती शोधून देते मी..”

“ती तरी सापडेल का?”

डायना लॅपटॉप वर सर्च करत होती, डेस्कटॉप वर गरजेच्या नसलेल्या फाईल्स सेव्ह. त्यांना नावही विचित्र दिलेली. काहीही शोधायचं म्हटलं की एकेक फाईल बघावी लागे. शुभम साठी हे काही नवीन नव्हतं. 

एवढ्यात लंच ब्रेक झाला आणि सर्वजण कॅन्टीन मध्ये जेवायला गेले. शुभमचं एक तत्व होतं. ऑफिसमध्ये तो जरी बॉस असला तरी जेवायच्या वेळी स्टाफ सोबत तो समरस होऊन जाई. त्याचा टिफिन तो शेयर करत असे. शुभमचं लक्ष आकाशच्या टिफिनकडे सारखं जायचं. कित्येक वर्षांपासून तोच टिफिन, तरीही अगदी नवा कोरा धुवून पुसून लख्ख दिसायचा. पोळीची घडी, भाजीचं प्रमाण, हे सगळं तो बघत असायचा. अश्यातच कंपनीच्या cultural क्लब सोबत नुकतीच एक मिटिंग झालेली. यावेळी महिला दिनाला आपल्याच स्टाफ मधील एखाद्या एम्प्लॉयी च्या कर्तृत्ववान पत्नीला बोलावून घ्यायचं आणि प्रमुख पाहुण्या म्हणून त्यांचं वक्तव्य ठेवायचं असं ठरलं.

ही बातमी कंपनीत पसरली. एकमेकांत चर्चा सुरू झाली, कुणाची बायको येईल? बऱ्याच पुरुषांनी आपापल्या बायकांची नावं रिकमेंड केली होती. काहीजणी डॉक्टर होत्या, काही वकील, काहींचा स्वतःचा बिझनेस होता. आता सर्वांचं लक्ष लागलेलं की यात कुणाचा नंबर लागतो.

“मनीषा..अगं वाढ जेवायला..भूक लागलीये केव्हाची..”

“हो झालं की, बसा लगेच..”

मनीषाने आकाशाला ताट वाढून दिलं आणि ती वाढायला त्याच्या शेजारीच बसली. जेवता जेवता आकाश मनीषाला ऑफिसमधल्या घडामोडी सांगू लागला.

“तुझी कालची पालकाची भाजी फार आवडली बरं का शुभम सरांना..”

“अय्या हो का?”

“होय..आणि हो, कंपनीत महिला दिनाला सर्व स्टाफ च्या कुटुंबातील महिलांना बोलावलं आहे, तुला यावं लागेल..”

मनीषा थोडी घाबरली..

“सर्व बायका एकदम हाय फाय असतील ना? इंग्रजी बोलणाऱ्या?”

“तू कशाला घाबरतेस? तू कमी आहेस का कुणापेक्षा??”

“नाही हो, तरीपण..”

“आणि अजून एक..यावेळेस स्टाफ मधल्याच एकाच्या बायकोला प्रमुख पाहुण्या म्हणून बोलावणार आहे..”

“किती छान ना..मला वाटतं त्या डॉ. नीलिमा आहेत ना, देसाईंची बायको..त्यांना बोलावतील..किती नाव आहे त्यांचं..”

“अजून काही ठरलं नाही, बघू..”

दुसऱ्या दिवशी शुभम सर त्या नावाची घोषणा करणार होते. बोर्ड मेम्बर्स मध्ये चर्चा करून नोटीस बोर्ड वर ते नाव जाहीर होणार होतं. 

संध्याकाळी ऑफीस सुटल्यावर सर्वजण आकाशचं अभिनंदन करत होते. आकाशाला समजेना नक्की काय झालंय? त्याने नोटिस बोर्ड पाहिला.. त्यावर मनीषाचं नाव पाहून तो गोंधळला. शुभम सरांचा काहीतरी गैरसमज झालेला दिसतोय..असं म्हणत तो तातडीने शुभम सरांकडे गेला.

“सर नोटीस बोर्ड वर मी माझ्या मिसेस चं नाव पाहिलं..सर ती एक गृहिणी आहे..तुम्ही तिचं नाव कसं घेतलंय? कुणीतरी तुम्हाला चुकीचं सांगितलं असेल की मनीषा डॉक्टर अथवा वकील आहे ते..”

“मिस्टर आकाश, काहीही गैरसमज झालेला नाहीये..आम्ही बरोबर लिहिलंय ते नाव..”

“सर..पण..”

“मिस्टर आकाश.. कुठलंही क्षेत्र असो..त्यात टापटीप काम करणं, नीटनेटकेपणा असणं, सातत्य असणं हे खूप बेसिक आहे. एखादा मोठा सर्जन झाला आणि ऑपरेशन च्या वेळी त्याचा धसमुसळेपणा दिसला तर काय कामाचा? एखादा मोठा वकील असेल पण त्याला महत्वाची कागदपत्र जपून ठेवता आली नाही तर काय फायदा?”

“याचा इथे काय संबंध?”

“मिस्टर आकाश, गेले कित्येक वर्षे मी तुमच्यासोबत टिफिन शेयर करतोय, प्रत्येकाच्या टिफिन मधून त्याच्या बायकोची झलक दिसून येते. एखाद्याच्या डब्यातून पोळीचा तुकडा हळूच बाहेर आलेला असला की समजायचं की त्याच्या बायकोला आज घाई झाली होती, एखाद्याच्या भाजी आळणी असेल तर समजायचं की त्याच्या बायकोची मनस्थिती ठीक नाही…पण तुमचा टिफिन मी बघत आलोय, कित्येक वर्षांपासून तोच टिफिन अगदी स्वच्छ, करकरीत… डबा स्वच्छ व्हावा म्हणून जोर लावून घासल्याच्या त्यावर असलेल्या बारीक चिरा..पोळीची नेमकीच घडी, पोळीला पुरेल अशी नेमकीच भाजी, भाजीवर अलगद पेरलेली कोथिंबीर, पोळी ठेवण्याचा कोन अंश सुद्धा बदलेला नसतो.. यावरून काय लक्षात येतं माहितीये? तुमच्या बायकोचा नीटनेटकेपणा..इतकी वर्षे सातत्याने टिफिन चं पावित्र्य जपणारं सातत्य..आणि हेच गरजेचं आहे खरं तर आपल्या स्टाफ ला…”

आकाशाच्या मनात शुभम सरांबद्दल असलेला आदर आज अजूनच दुणावला. त्यांना धन्यवाद म्हणत तो धावतच घरी गेला बायकोला खुशखबरी द्यायला..
