 सानिका नुकतंच आपलं इंजिनिअरिंग चं शिक्षण पूर्ण करून आपल्या घरी आली होती. हॉस्टेल वरची चार वर्षे मजेत काढून आता तिला घराची ओढ लागली होती. 

हॉस्टेल वर मजामस्ती होतीच पण जेवणाचे आणि राहण्याचे बरेच हाल झालेले..कधी एकदा आईच्या हातचं खाते असं तिला झालं. कॉलेज सोडतांना तिला बरंच वाईट वाटलं, कारण कॉलेज मध्ये तिचा सर्व उपक्रमात सहभाग असायचा, कॉलेज गाजवलं होतं तिने..लीडर म्हणून ती सर्वपरिचित होतीच, पण सर्वांना मदत करणारी म्हणून तिची ओळख असायची..ती स्पष्टवक्ती असल्याने बरेच जण तिच्यापासून सावध राहायचे..

 

घरी आली तर खरी, पण बाहेरच्या आवाजाने तिला काही शांतता मिळत नव्हती..बाहेर प्रचार रॅली फिरत होती..कर्णकर्कश आवाज आणि तेच तेच ऐकून ती वैतागली…इतक्यात तो मोर्चा घराबाहेर आला आणि एकाने दार ठोठावलं…

 

नगरसेवक पदाला उभा असलेला एक उमेदवार हात जोडून दाराशी उभा होता..हात जोडलेले होते पण डोळ्यात एक माज होता..गेली 3 वर्षे सलग निवडणूक तो जिंकला होता…आणि आता पुन्हा एकदा जिंकायची त्याची तयारी होती…तसा तो गुंड प्रवृत्तीचा…आपला दरारा त्याने टिकवला होता…लोकांना धमकावून आणि पैसे वाटून तो मतं मिळवायचा..

 

“नमस्कार…”

 

आईने अदबीने त्याचं स्वागत केलं…सानिका ला मात्र तो पटत नव्हता…तिने सपशेल दुर्लक्ष करत आपला मोर्चा वर्तमानपत्राकडे वळवला..

 

“अगं सानिका…उठून उभी तर राहा..”

 

आईने हळू आवाजात इशारा केला…सानिका ने त्या उमेदवाराकडे एक कटाक्ष टाकला आणि सपशेल दुर्लक्ष केलं… गणपतराव…आलेला उमेदवार..त्याचा अपमान झाला….खोचकपणे तो म्हणाला..

 

“ताई मला ओळखत नाही वाटतं…”

 

 

“अहो ती शिकायला बाहेरगावी होती म्हणून…तुम्ही बसा ना..पाणी आणते…”

 

“हो हो..यांना पाणी देच तू…कळेल, यांच्या राज्यात कसलं गढूळ पाणी येतं ते..”

 

स्वभावाप्रमाणे सानिका ने त्या उमेदवाराच्या कामावर बोट ठेवलं..

 

“अगं ए…गप की..कुणाशी बोलतेय..” 

 

आईने सानिका ला शांत करायचा प्रयत्न केला…

 

“एका अश्या माणसाशी बोलतेय जो प्रत्येक वेळी नवनवीन धोरणं आखतो… आश्वासनं देतो आणि त्यांची खुशाल पायमल्ली करतो…अश्या माणसाशी बोलतेय जो धमक्या देऊन…पैसे वाटून मतं मिळवतो… अजून बरीच ओळख करून देता येईल या माणसाची…”

 

सानिका निडर होऊन सर्व बोलत होती..पण जे काही बोलत होती त्यातला शब्दन शब्द खरा होता.ती जे बोलत होती तेच प्रत्येक माणसाच्या तोंडी असायचं, पण समोर बोलण्याची कुणाची हिम्मत होत नव्हती…

 

गणपतराव लालबुंद होतात..

 

“बघतोच तुला…”

 

असं म्हणत गणपतरावांनी तिथून काढता पाय घेतला..कारण निवडणूक तोंडावर आलेली आणि सर्वांना बोलायला कारण होईल असं काहीही वागायचं नव्हतं…

 

तो गेला तशी आई सानिका ला बोलायला लागली..

 

“अक्कल आहे का कुणाशी काय आणि कसं बोलावं याची? अगं गुंड आहे तो माणूस..त्याच्याशी वैर केलंस तर किती महागात पडेल आपल्याला कळतंय का तुला??”

 

“मला फरक पडत नाही तो कोण आहे आणि काय आहे याचा..काय करेल तो करून करून? मला पळवून नेईल, आपल्याला धमक्या देईल…मी इतकी लेचीपेची वाटली का तुला त्यांच्या हाती लागायला? आणि जे खरं आहे ते आहे… सत्याची चाड करायला मला जमतं..असत्याला मी सहन करू शकत नाही..”

 

सानिका एवढं बोलून आपल्या खोलीत निघून गेली…

 

आईने वडिलांना सगळा प्रकार सांगितला आणि तेही जरा घाबरले, पण त्यांना अभिमानही वाटला की पोरगी कुणालाही घाबरत नाही म्हणून…

 

दुसऱ्या दिवशी 2 लोकांना घेऊन गणपतराव पुन्हा दारात आले..

 

सानिका ने दार उघडलं..

 

“या या गणपतराव…तुम्ही याला याची खात्री होती मला..”

 

आई धावत बाहेर आली…आता पुन्हा ही मुलगी काय प्रताप दाखवेल याची चिंता तिला सतावू लागली ..

 

गणपतरावांशी पहिल्यांदा असं कुणीतरी आवेशात बोलत होतं.. नाहीतर त्यांचे समर्थक… लाळघोटेपणा करत नेत्याची हाजी हाजी करण्यात त्यांना मोठेपणा वाटायचा…त्यामुळे असं खोचक बोलणं ऐकण्याची सवय गणपतरावांना नव्हती..

 

ते दारात येऊन उभे राहिले आणि आईची भीतीने गाळण उडाली..कारण त्या आवेशातच ते आले होते….

 

गणपतराव आणि त्याचसोबतची दोन माणसं सानिका चा सूड घेण्यासाठीच आले होते. सानिका निडरपणे त्यांचा समोर जाऊन उभी राहिली…आई आधीच घाबरलेली होती..

 

“बोला…काय हवंय?”

 

“तू कुणाशी बोलतेय कळतंय का? माझं नाव माहीत आहे का तुला?”

 

“का? तुम्हाला तुमचं नावही माहीत नाही…अरेरे…हा तर गझनी सारखाच प्रकार झाला…अच्छा…म्हणून तुम्ही जागोजागी hordings लावलेत काय..तेच म्हटलं…म्हणजे कसं, होर्डिंग वर आपलं नाव पाहून आठवत असेल तुम्हाला…”

 

गणपत रावांसोबत आलेली दोन माणसं चिडून पूढे झाली तसं गणपत रावांनी हातानी त्यांना अडवलं…

 

“आपण चार पुस्तकं वाचली म्हणून दुसऱ्यापेक्षा मोठे बनत नाही मॅडम…”

 

“आणि लोकांना अंधारात ठेऊन काळी कर्म केल्याने कुणी नेता बनत नाहीत सर…”

 

गणपत रावांच्या प्रत्येक वाक्याला सानिका तोडीस तोड उत्तर देत होती…

 

“नेता बनणं म्हणजे खाऊची पेंड वाटली काय गं तुला…किती लफडी सोडवावी लागतात कल्पना आहे का…”

 

“लफडी…वा…तुमच्यासारख्या व्यक्तीच्या तोंडून असेच शब्द निघणार…शिक्षण काय हो तुमचं?”

 

या प्रश्नावर मात्र गणपतराव बिथरले..

 

“ए…शिक्षणाचा माज दाखवू नको…तुला तुझी लायकी दाखवावीच लागेल..”

 

“ती तर तुम्ही दाखवलीत…”

 

“एवढंच सोपं वाटतं तर मग ये रणांगणात… उतर निवडणुकीत… लढ आणि दाखवून दे….आली मोठी….बोल, घेतेस का चॅलेंज?”
