 एक क्षण मोहाचा

हॉस्पिटलमध्ये बहिणीला बघून बेडवर असलेल्या सुमितने मान वळवली, बहिणीचे अश्रू थांबत नव्हते. अपराधीपणाचं ओझं तिच्या मनावर अजूनच दाट झालं. आई पलंगाशेजारी बसून तिच्याकडे बघत होती. दोन्ही मुलांचं आयुष्य बरखास्त झालेलं बघून ती आई कोरडी झाली होती. मुलाला धीर द्यावा की सुमतीच्या अपराधीपणाचं ओझं कमी करावं तिलाच कळत नव्हतं. त्याची बायको सुन्नपणे फक्त बघत होती. 

सुमित आपल्या बहिणीकडे बघायलाही तयार नव्हता, आणि सुमती भावाला असं बघून स्वतःला रोखू शकत नव्हती. 

पाच वर्षांपूर्वीची गोष्ट, 

सुमती, सुमित आणि त्यांची आई, असा तिघांचा गोड गोंडस परिवार होता. वडील लहानपणीच गेलेले पण जातांना सगळी आर्थिक सोय करून गेलेले. आईने मुलांना एकटीने वाढवलं. मुलं मोठी होऊ लागली, सुमती कॉलेजला जाऊ लागली. तरुणपण अंगात भिनलं. अश्याच एका रोड रोमियो सोबत ओळख झाली, आकर्षणाला तिने प्रेम मानलं. त्यांच्या गाठीभेटी, आणि एक दिवस घरी खोटं बोलून लांबच्या ट्रिप ला जाणं.. तिथे दोघांनी मर्यादा ओलांडणं , कसलंही भान न ठेवणं..आणि मग, अनाहूतपणे तिला आलेलं आईपण.

घरी समजल्यावर आईने थोबाडीत तर दिलीच, पण सुमितला जीव द्यावा की काय असं वाटू लागलेलं. मोठ्या कष्टाने त्याने समाजात स्वतःचं स्थान निर्माण केलं होतं. पण बहिणीच्या अश्या कृत्याने सगळं धुळीला मिळालं. तो मुलगा पसार झाला, इकडे हिच्या वाट्याला आलेलं आईपण..तिने ते नाकारलं नाही, त्या मुलाच्या येण्याची वाट पाहिली. या काळात सुमितला घरात राहणं नकोसं झालं, जास्तीत जास्त वेळ तो बाहेर राहू लागला. त्याचा मित्र, मोहित सोबत आपलं मन मोकळं करू लागला. मोहितला दारुचं व्यसन. त्याने सुमितला सुद्धा आग्रह धरला..

“नको रे, मी घेत नाही..”

“घे रे सुमित, अरे हे असं औषध आहे की याने सगळी दुःखं विसरता येतात..”

नको नको म्हणत सुमितने घोट घेतला. डोकं सुन्न झालं, विचार क्षणभर थबकले..दुःखं पुसट वाटू लागलं. आता दुःखं विसरण्यासाठी हाच उपाय वारंवार होऊ लागला. आधी 2 दिवसातून एकदा, नंतर दिवसाआड, नंतर रोज..नंतर सकाळ संध्याकाळ..आईने खूप शपथा घातल्या, पण आता व्यसन सुटणं अवघड होऊन बसलं.

तो मुलगा सापडला, त्याला तातडीने सुमतीसोबत लग्न करायला भाग पाडलं, त्याची इच्छा नव्हती, पण सुमितच्या धमक्यांना तो घाबरला. सुमतीने लग्न केलं, आईपण वाचवलं. पण आता नात्यात प्रेम नव्हतं, आणि पुढे मानसिक शारीरिक छळ झाला तो वेगळाच.माहेरी तक्रार करायला जागाही नव्हती. लग्नात पुढे आलेलं पोट घेऊन नवरी उभी होती, लोकांच्या नजरांनी शेवटी बदनामी झालीच. पुढे जाऊन सुमितचं कसंबसं लग्न झालं..

पाच वर्षांनी सुमितला अचानक त्रास होऊ लागला, लिव्हर पूर्णपणे कामातून गेलेलं. सततच्या दारूने त्याचा घात केलेला. आता कुठे जीवन रुळावर यायला लागलं होतं आणि त्यात हे..

त्याला तपासायला डॉक्टर मॅडम आल्या, सुमितच्या आईला त्यांनी ओळखलं..

“तुम्ही कावेरी ना? कावेरी पाटील?”

“हो..पण..”

“मला ओळखलं नाहीस? मी राधिका, तुझी वर्गमैत्रीण”

आईला आठवू लागलं, राधिका आणि ती एकाच बेंचवर बसायचे..कावेरी राधिकापेक्षा हुशार होती. राधिकाला अभ्यासात मदत करायची. वडील म्हणायचे, कावेरी खूप शिक..पण एक स्थळ आलं आणि हिला लग्नाचे डोहाळे लागले, मुलगा आवडला..ती प्रेमात आंधळी झाली…

वडिलांनी शेवटचं विचारलं,

“दोनच पर्याय, शिक्षण अथवा लग्न..”

तिने लग्नाचा पर्याय निवडला..

शिक्षण बाजूला ठेवलं आणि लग्न करून ती संसाराला लागली…

सुमती, सुमित आणि आई..

आज तिघेही त्यांच्या विस्कळीत आयुष्याकडे हतबलपणे बघत होते. 

या बरबादीला कारण एकच होतं…”तो एक मोहाचा क्षण..”

सुमतीने भावनेच्या भरात वाहून न जाता त्या मुलाला नकार दिला असता तर? त्याच्या पुढे सरसावलेल्या हातावर आवर घातला असता तर? 

सुमितने खंबीर होऊन मोहितला “नाही म्हणजे नाही..” असं दारू पिण्यावर खडसावून सांगितलं असतं तर? 

त्याक्षणी वडिलांच्या पर्यायात शिक्षणाला निवडलं असतं तर?

आज आईसुद्धा मोठ्या पदावर कार्यरत असती, सुमती स्वतःच्या पायावर उभं राहून चांगल्या घराण्यात गेली असती, सुमित धडधाकट बनून समाजात इज्जतीने वावरला असता. 

कारणीभूत, बस तो एक क्षण…

त्या एका क्षणाने तिघांचं आयुष्य पूर्ण 360 अंशाने फिरवलं होतं..

आयुष्यातला तो एक मोहाचा क्षण जिंकता आला तर?

हा क्षण जिंकणं महत्वाचं, त्यासाठी हवा संयम, सारासार विचार आणि वैचारिक भान. 

तो एक मोहाचा क्षण, 

जिंकलात तर मार्ग सुकर असेल..

आणि हरलात तर, 

देवही वाचवू शकणार नाही…
