दिशा माधवला घेऊन तिच्या शेतात जाते.
“दिशा…. का बोलावलं इथे?”
दिशा चटकन खाली बसते, आणि जमीन उकरायला लागते…
“दिशा काय करते आहेस समजेल का?”
“माती परीक्षणासाठी नमुने जमा करतेय..”
माधव आपल्या बायकोच्या करामतींकडे कौतुकाने बघत असतो…
दिशा 30 सेंटीमीटर चा खड्डा V आकारांमध्ये तयार करते, जवळपास चार पाच ठिकाणी ती अश्या आकाराचे खड्डे खणते आणि त्याच्या आजूबाजूची माती जमा करते. नंतर ती माती एकत्र करून त्याचे चार समान भाग बनवते, आणि समोरासमोरील दोन भाग काढून टाकते. हीच प्रक्रिया माती अर्धा किलो जमेपर्यंत ती करत राहते. आणि उरलेली माती एका प्लास्टिकच्या पिशवीत भरते आणि माधवला सांगते,
“ चल.. ही माती आता परीक्षणासाठी देऊया..”
दोघेही लॅब मध्ये मातीचा नमुना घेऊन येतात.
घरी आल्यावर पाहतो तर काय, सागर दारात उभा.. सागर… माधव चा लहान भाऊ. शहरात मार्केटिंगची नोकरी करत होता. शेतीत त्याला रस नव्हता. मग त्याने गाव सोडलं आणि आणि तो शहरात गेला.
“ दादा, यावेळेस चांगल्या पंधरा दिवसांच्या सुट्ट्या काढून आलोय बर का… वहिनी कश्या आहात?”
“ मी बरी आहे…”
“वहिनी पण मानलं हं तुम्हाला.. इतकं शिक्षण असू आणि शहराची सवय असून सुद्धा तुम्ही एका शेतकऱ्याशी लग्न करण्याचा धाडसी निर्णय घेतला..”
“ होय. आणि आता हाच निर्णय किती योग्य होता हेच मला सिद्ध करून दाखवायचं आहे..”
“ म्हणजे?”
माधव सागरला दिशाच्या शेती बद्दल सांगतो. दिशा तिच्या शेतात नवनवीन प्रयोग करून शेतीत क्रांती आणणार हे सागरला समजले. का कुणास ठाऊक पण त्यालाही असं काहीतरी करण्याची इच्छा निर्माण झाली. दिशा सारखी मॉडर्न मुलगी शेतीत उत्साह दाखवते आणि मी मात्र शेतीकडे कानाडोळा करू शहराकडे ओढला गेलो याची खंत त्याला वाटू लागली.
दिशाचा शेतीवरील रिसर्च चालू होता… तिने सरसकट एकच पीक न घेता फळ, भाजीपाला, फुलझाडं आणि आणि काही कडधान्यांचे पीक घेण्याचा ठरवलं. कारण तिला बिजनेस ची कन्सेप्ट माहित होती… एकाच गोष्टीतून हजार रुपये काढण्यापेक्षा शंभर गोष्टीतून शंभर रुपये काढलेले कधीही सोयीस्कर.. कारण एक मार्ग बंद झाला तरी इतर पर्याय शिल्लक राहतात…
एके दिवशी दिशा आपल्या शेताकडे जात असताना शेजारच्या घरात तिला कसलीतरी गडबड ऐकू आली… नीट पाहिल्यावर समजलं.. की शिंदे काकांच्या रूपालीला बघायला मुलगा आला आहे…. मुलगा देखणा, श्रीमंत आणि शहरातला दिसत होता. पाहुणे घरात बसलेले पण मुलगा आणि त्याचा मित्र बाहेर येऊन काहीतरी कुजबुज करत होते. ही कुजबुज दिशाच्या कानावर पडली. ते म्हणत होते…
“अरे कसली गावठी मुलगी पाहिली… किती गावंडळ आहे ती…”
रुपाली दिसायला देखणी होती पण साधी राहायची….
दिशाला राग आला, ती तडक त्या दोघां जवळ गेली आणि म्हणाली…
“ तुम्हा लोकांना कोथिंबीर गावठी हवी… लसुन गावठी हवा… सगळा भाजीपाला गावठी हवा… इतकंच काय, तर कोंबडीही गावठी हवी… या गावठी लपणाला इतकी किंमत का आहे माहिती आहे? कारण ते शुद्ध मातीत, शुद्ध हवेत आणि प्रामाणिक कष्टात बहरलेलं असत.. शहराप्रमाणे रंग फासून किंवा कृत्रिम रित्या बळजबरी वाढवलेलं नसतं…. या ‘गावठी’ मध्ये एक विश्वास असतो….एक प्रेमाची सर असते…. सगळं गावठी हवं, मग मुलगी गावठी का नको? “
असं त्या दोघांना चांगलाच दम देऊन दिशा आपल्या शेतात निघून जाते…
थोड्यावेळाने माधव तिथे येतो आणि म्हणतो की तू बियाणे कुठलं वापरणार? गावठी हि हायब्रीड?
“इतक्यात मी गावठीपुराण ऐकवून आले, बियाणं सुद्धा गावठीच घेणार…”
“अरे हो तुला सांगायचं राहिलं, शेजारच्या रूपालीला त्या मुलाने होकार कळवला आहे…”
दिशा मनोमन सुखावली… चला आपलं व्याख्यान वाया गेलं नाही …
माधव म्हणतो..” म्हणजे?”
“ काही नाही….”
माती परीक्षणाचा रिपोर्ट येतो… त्यात माती साठी लागणारी बरीच घटकद्रव्य यांची कमतरता असते. आणि त्यावर उपाय म्हणून काही खत वापरण्यास सांगितले जातात. ही माती धान्य पिकासाठी कमी पोषक आहे असं त्यात दिलेलं असतं… माधव डोळे मोठे करून पाहतो…
“आजवर आम्ही हे कधीच केलंच नव्हतं.. आणि अंदाधुंदी धन्याचंच पीक घेत आलो….”
“ हेच तर आपल्याला बदलायचं आहे… शेतीत एक सुकाळ आणायचं आहे..”
दिशा पेपरवर प्लॅनिंग करते, अमूक एका भागात फळांची रोपे लावायची.. ज्यात पेरू पपई केळी अशी फळं घेण्यात येतील… काही भागात भाजीपाला, काही भागात कडधान्य अशी योजना करते आणि एक विशिष्ट भाग मोकळा सोडते…. हा भाग तिने मोकळा का सोडला असेल याचे उत्तर माधवला काही मिळत नाही…
“वेळ आली की समजेल”
असंच दिशा त्याला म्हणत असायची…
ठरल्याप्रमाणे गावठी बियाणं आणलं जातं…
माधव, मला नांगरणी करून देशील रे?
“अं?… विचार करून सांगेल…”
असं काय रे… तुला भाव लागतोय का आता?
” नाही… तुम्हा लोकांना चार चाकी लागते म्हटलं… सांगतात चार चाकी आणि बसतात आठ चाकांच्या गाडीवर…हा हा हा..”
बैलगाडीचा किस्सा आठवून माधव दिशाची चेष्टा करतो…
“माधव.….. बस का म्हणजे… आणि ते सगळं सुलेखा म्हटली होती मी नाही…”
जुन्या आठवणी आठवत दोघेही हसू लागत..
माधव नांगरणी ला सुरुवात करतो… मध्येच दिशाची खिल्ली उडवतो….
“तुझा नवरा श्रीमंत आहे म्हणून, नाहीतर नांगर जुंपून नांगरावं लागलं असतं तुला…”
दोघेजण ट्रॅक्टर वर बसून नांगरणीला सुरवात करतात… दिशा च्या डोळ्यात अचानक पाणी येतं….
माधव विचारतो “काय झालं?”
निशा म्हणते..
“तुझ्यासोबत लग्न झालं नसतं तर काय केलं असतं मी?”
“अगं तू तर एखाद्या राणी सारखी शहरात छान पैकी एसीमध्ये टीव्ही बघत असती…”
“बरं झालं तसं झालं नाही ते..”
“का? आणि मग रडू का आलं??”
” आनंदाश्रू आहेत हे…”
“कसले?”
“आज तुझ्यासोबत मी हा वेळ घालवते आहे…असा सुखद वेळ कुणाच्या नशिबात येत असेल? नवरा-बायको एकत्र फिरतात पण ते फक्त स्वार्थासाठी… आज आपण पण एकमेकांसोबत क्वालिटी टाइम स्पेन्ड करतोय.. पण त्याला स्वार्थाची किनार नाही…पण एका विलक्षण ध्येयासाठी.. आपला आत्मसन्मान जपण्यासाठी… खरंच असं उदात्त सहजीवन कुणाच्या वाटेला येतं??”
दिशाचा इतका व्यापक आणि सकारात्मक दृष्टिकोन पाहून माधव अजूनच तिच्या प्रेमात पडतो…
माधवला एका गोष्टीची चिंता सतावू लागते… आता सर्व मजूर माधव आणि त्याचे वडील करत असलेल्या शेतावर काम करत राहणार… मग दिशाच्या शेतीसाठी कोण वेळ देईल?ती एकटी कसं करू शकेल हे?
दिशाने यावरही उपाय शोधला होता.. तिला तिच्या शेतासाठी फक्त मजूरच नको होते, तर काम करता करता शेतीतील नवीन तंत्रज्ञान शिकून घेणे… शेतीतील आधुनिक संकल्पना अंगिकारणे आणि शेतीबाबत जिव्हाळा निर्माण होणे हे उद्धिष्ट साध्य करायचे होते…केवळ आपल्यालाच नाही तर पुढच्या पिढीलाही शेतीबाबत आकर्षण निर्माण व्हायला हवं असा तिचा प्रयत्न होता..
दुसऱ्या दिवशी काही तरुण तरुणी दिशा ला भेटतात…दिशा त्यांना कामं वाटून देते…त्यांची बराच वेळ चर्चा होते..
माधव ला कळेना..ही इतकी मुलं आली कुठून? दिशाने शेतात काम करायला इतकी मुलं आणली कुठून??
