 तिचं पार्लर होतं, घरातच एका छोट्याश्या जागेत तिने सगळी व्यवस्था केलेली,

सकाळी लवकर कामं आटोपून बसत जाई..

मग 10 नंतर बायकांची येजा सुरू होई..

कुणाला आयब्रो, कुणाला haircut..

दिवसभर रेलचेल चालू असे..

रंजना काकूंनी सुरवातीला कटकट घातली, 

पण नव्या सुनेने नाव ठेवायला जागाच ठेवली नाही..

घरातलं एकही काम सुटत नसे,

सकाळी नाश्ता, स्वयंपाक, धुणी, भांडी, झाडू, फारशी..

आठवड्यातून एकदा सगळी साफसफाई..

धान्य वाळवणं,

दळण करणं,

भाजीपाला आणणं,

निवडून ठेवणं..

सगळं ती बघे,

दिवसातला एक मिनिटही तिला उसंत नसे..

घरातल्या खर्चात अर्धा खर्च ती स्वतः भागवत असे,

रंजना काकूंच्या हातात नवऱ्याच्या पेन्शनचे पैसे येत..

पण हातातून एक पैसा सुटेल तर शपथ..

खूप चिगट स्वभाव,

एकेक रुपयाचा हिशोब ठेवत..

भाजीवाल्याला सुद्धा दोन रुपये जास्त जाऊ देत नसत..

अश्या या रंजना काकू..

आईचा मिळालेला सोन्याचा हार, 

काळवंडत चाललेला..

आता तो मोडून दुसरं काहीतरी करायची वेळ आली..

त्यांना कळेना काय करावं…

या विचारातच दिवस जाऊ लागले..

एके दिवशी मंदिरात जातांना रस्त्यावर त्या पाय घसरून पडल्या..

आजूबाजूच्या बायका पटकन जमल्या आणि त्यांनी मदत केली..

“तुम्ही कविताच्या सासूबाई ना?”

“हो..”

कविताकडे पार्लरसाठी येणाऱ्या बायका होत्या त्या..

त्यांनी मदत केली आणि सासूबाई आधार घेत घरी आल्या..

या बायकांनी मदत केल्याचे उपकार रंजना काकूंवर होते..

त्या एरवी कधीच कविताच्या पार्लर मध्ये पाय ठेवत नसत,

पण आता या बायका दिसल्या की विचारपूस करायला येत..

पार्लर मध्ये रंजना काकूंना वेळ घालवणं चांगलं वाटू लागलं..

खूप साऱ्या बायका यायच्या, 

आपली सुखदुःखं मांडायच्या,

काही सल्ले घ्यायच्या,

एकमेकींशी ओळख करायच्या,

एकमेकींना मदत करायच्या,

कवितालाही छान वाटू लागलेलं,

सासूबाई आपल्या कामाच्या ठिकाणी वेळ घालवताय म्हणून..

एकदा चार पाच बायका आपला नंबर लावून बसलेल्या,

एकीचं फेशियल चालू होतं, ती फेस पॅक लावून बसलेली..

दारावर कुणीतरी आलं तशी कविता तिकडे गेली..

पार्लर मधल्या बायका एकमेकींना म्हणू लागल्या,

“किती active असते ही कविता, घर पण बघते..पार्लर पण सांभाळते…

दमत कशी नाही?”

“हो ना, आणि इतक्या बायका येतात हिच्याकडे, पण कधी कुणाची चुगली नाही की काही नाही…प्रत्येकाशी प्रेमाने बोलणार, प्रत्येकाला जीव लावणार…लोकं अश्या प्रेमळ माणसांकडेच खेचली जातात…तिच्याकडे उगाच एवढी गर्दी नसते..”

सासूबाई तिथेच एका बाजूला खुर्ची टाकून बसलेल्या असतात,
