प्रभा श्वेताकडे परत जायचं ठरवते,
“हॅलो श्वेता, बाळा मला यायचं आहे तिकडे परत..”
“अहो मीच येणारे आता तिकडे, माहेरी किती दिवस राहणार ना..”
“अगं नको, रहा अजून काही दिवस..”

माहेरी अजून राहायला मिळणार म्हणून श्वेता काहीशी सुखावली. त्याच वेळी माहेरी तिची क्रांती नावाची मैत्रीण तिला भेटायला आली. क्रांती श्वेताची बालपणापासून ची मैत्रीण, श्वेताचं लग्न झालं, पण क्रांती मात्र पुढील शिक्षणासाठी बाहेरगावी गेली.तेव्हापासून दोघींची भेट नाही, आणि आज अचानक असं सामोरं आल्यावर दोघींनी अगदी गळाभेट घेतली.
“श्वेता, किती दिवसांनी भेटतोय आपण..तू अगदी तशीच आहेस…काहीही बदलली नाहीस, लग्नानंतर मुलींची वजनं वाढतात म्हणे, तू तर अजून स्लिम ट्रिम झालीस..सासू त्रास देते वाटतं..”
“चल काहीतरी आपलं..उलट इतक्या छान आहे त्या..”
“आणि केदार जीजू??”
“ते..ठीक आहेत..”
श्वेताच्या नजरेतील सल क्रांतीच्या डोळ्यातून सुटली नाही.

क्रांतीचं घर श्वेताच्या घरापासून काही अंतरावर होतं. क्रांती जेवण वगैरे आटोपून आणि घरच्यांची परवानगी घेऊन श्वेताकडे जायला निघाली..तिथे रस्त्यावर एक रिक्षा हेलकावे खात जात होती..
“अरे कोण आहे रिक्षात?? पिऊन गाडी चालवायला लाज नाही वाटत??”
म्हणता म्हणता रिक्षा क्रांतीजवळ येऊन पोचली, क्रांतीला धडक देणार तोच ब्रेक दाबला गेला अन क्रांती वाचली..संतापात ती रिक्षाजवळ जाते अन बघते तर काय, एक बाई पुढच्या सीटवर बसलेली आणि रिक्षाचालक मागच्या सीटवर घामेघुम होऊन अंग चोरून बसलेला.
“गाडी चालवता येत नाही तर कशाला शहाणपणा करायचा??”
“कोण म्हणे मला येत नाही, तू समोर येताच ब्रेक दाबला बघ..नाहीतर तुझं काही खरं नव्हतं..”
“अहो तुमचं वय काय तुम्ही करताय काय..शोभतं का तुम्हाला??”
“चल तुला सोडते मी, कुठे जायचंय??”
क्रांती लांबूनच नमस्कार करून पुढे चालायला लागते. श्वेता तिची वाटच बघत असते..क्रांती पोचताच श्वेता तिला खोलीत बसायला सांगते आणि कुणाला तरी फोन लावत असते..
“जिजूंचा फोन वाटतं, शी बाबा, मी उगाच आले..”
“नाही गं, सासूबाईं येताय..एव्हाना येऊन जायला हव्या होत्या..कुठे अडकल्या काय माहीत..”
“त्या कशाला येताय इथे??”
“त्यांना आवडतं अगं इथे, गावकडंचं वातावरण त्यांना भावतं, शहरात धकाधकीच्या आयुष्याला कंटाळले आहेत ते..(आता हिला कसं सांगू, गावाकडे उनाडक्या करायला मोकळं रान आहे म्हणून येणार होत्या त्या..)”
काही वेळाने बाहेरून आवाज,
“श्वेता.. श्वेता डार्लिंग..”
“डार्लिंग, कोण आवाज देतंय तुला असं??”
श्वेता दार उघडते, क्रांतीही तिच्या मागोमाग येते.
“आई आलात??”
“नाही..अजून बसमध्येच आहे मी..”
“काय आई तुम्हीपण ना..ती बॅग द्या माझ्याकडे..आणि हात पाय धुवून जेवायला बसा, मी वाढते लगेच..”
क्रांती मागून पाहत असते, तिला चांगलाच घाम फुटतो..मघाशी रिक्षात ज्या बाईशी वाद घातलेला ती हीच..प्रभा..
“ओहो..या मॅडम इकडे कश्या??”
“तुम्ही ओळखता एकमेकींना??”
“हो..अगं मघाशी मी रिक्षा चालवत होते ना
तेव्हा हिलाच धडकणार होते, वाचली बिचारी..
“काकू सॉरी, मला माहित नव्हतं तुम्ही श्वेताच्या सासूबाई आहात…मी फार बोलले तुम्हाला..”
“कधी?? मला तर काही आठवत नाही बुवा..श्वेता, वाढायला घे बघू, जाम भूक लागलीये..”
श्वेता त्यांना वाढून, जेवू घालून अन खोलीत झोपायला पोचवून परत तिच्या खोलीत येते..क्रांती फार मोठ्या सदम्यात असते..

“का होईल त्रास? याउलट सतत टोमणे मारणारी, कुरापती काढणारी, भांडणं करणारी सासू भेटली असती तर? त्यापेक्षा अश्या निरागस मनाच्या आणि स्वतःला चिरतरुण समजणाऱ्या सासूबाई भेटल्या..नशीबच माझं..”
“चांगलंय बाई, पण त्या रिक्षा का चालवत होत्या??”
