 पण तिला ते मान्य नव्हतं,

जितकी तीव्रता जय बद्दल असलेल्या द्वेषात होती,

तितक्याच तीव्रतेने ती त्या मुलाशी प्रेम बांधण्याचा प्रयत्न करू लागली…

दुसऱ्याच्या द्वेषापोटी तिसऱ्यावर केलेलं ते प्रेम होतं..

हेच सत्य होतं,

पण तिचं मन कसलं मानेल..

दोघांचं लग्न झालं,

सहवासाने प्रेम फुलतं हेच खरं, दोघेही सुखी संसार करू लागले..

जय बद्दल तिने कधी माहिती काढायचा प्रयत्न केला नाही की कधी त्याला भेटण्याची इच्छा व्यक्त केली नाही..

तिच्यासाठी तो त्याच दिवशी मेला होता..

माहेरी यायची तेव्हा सासरचे गोडवे गायची,नवऱ्याचं कौतुक करायची…

पण जसजशी जायची वेळ व्हायची तेव्हा तिची आई जय चा विषय काढायची, त्याच्याबद्दल चांगलं बोलायची..

मिनाक्षीला राग यायचा..

“का तू त्याचा विषय काढतेस? माझ्यासाठी तो मेलाय..”

असं म्हटलं की आईला राग यायचा, 

आईला जय चा विषय काढण्याचं आणि त्याच्याबद्दल वाईट बोलल्यावर राग यायचं काय कारण? तिला समजेना..

यावेळी परत तेच झालं, यावेळी मात्र ती रागारागानेच माहेराहून सासरी निघाली..

ती पाठमोरी जाताच आईच्या डोळ्यात पाणी आलं..

ती आत गेली,

कपाटातून हळूच जय चा फोटो काढला, फोटोवरून हात फिरवला आणि म्हणाली,

“लेकरा, अरे कोणत्या मातीचा बनला होतास रे तू? ज्या दिवशी तुला कळलं की एका दुर्धर आजाराने तुझं शरीर पोखरलं जातंय आणि तुझ्याकडे कमी दिवस आहेत त्याचक्षणी तू मीनाक्षी सोबत संपर्क तोडलास…मला सगळं खरं सांगितलं आणि मला मीनाक्षीची शपथ देऊन तिला न कळू देण्याचं वचन घेतलंस…एवढ्यावर थांबला नाहीस, ती तुझ्या विरहात होरपळून जाऊ नये म्हणून तिच्या मनात तुझ्याबद्दल द्वेष पेरायला लावलास..तुला दुसरी मुलगी मिळाली, तुम्ही लग्न करणार म्हणून खोटं बोलायला लावलंस… का? तर मीनाक्षी तुझ्या आठवणीत दुःखी होऊ नये, तुझ्या विरहात अश्रू ढाळू नये म्हणून…कोणत्या मातीचा बनला होतास रे?

आज सगळं तुझ्या मनासारखं होतंय बघ…मीनाक्षी सुखाने संसार करतेय, तिला कधीही तुझी आठवण येत नाही आणि आली तरी द्वेषदृष्टीने ती त्याकडे बघते…तिचा किती रे विचार केलास तू…खरं प्रेम म्हणतात ते हेच होतं रे…आपल्या हजेरीत आपल्या प्रेयसीला जसं खुश ठेवलंस तसं आपल्या गैरहजेरीत तिला त्रास होऊ नये म्हणून सोयही करून ठेवलीस… आजही तुझं वचन मी पाळतेय लेकरा…जिथे असशील तिथे सुखी रहा..”

त्याच्या फोटोवर आईने अश्रूंनी पुन्हा एकदा श्रद्धांजली वाहिली…
