विकृत नजरेने घरमालक तिच्याकडे बघून तिच्याकडे पाहत होता…

संध्यापुढे आयुष्य म्हणजे एक संकट होतं… राहण्यापासून ते खाण्यापर्यंत… प्रत्येक ठिकाणी संघर्ष…

गरिबीत वाढलेली ती…लग्नही गरीब माणसाशीच झालं…शहरात काम मिळेल या आशेने दोघेही काम शोधायला मुंबई ला आले…घरभाड्याच्या तक्रारी मुळे कित्येकदा त्यांना खोली बदलावी लागे…

“अहो…कंटाळा आलाय आता सारखं सारखं घर बदलून…आपली स्वतःची एक खोली असती तर किती बरं झालं असतं ना?”

“होईल लवकरच…मला एक काम मिळालं आहे…पण 15-15 दिवस बाहेर राहावं लागेल…”

संध्या ला आनंदही झाला आणि सोबतच दुःखही… घरात 4 पैसे जास्त येणार म्हणून आणि नवरा लांब जाणार म्हणून..

तिचा नवरा निघून तर गेला.. पण हे 15 दिवस तिला खायला उठले. .कसेबसे दिवस काढत ती त्याची वाट पाहू लागली, पण त्याचा निरोप आला की तो अजून 2 महिने येणार नाही…


“संध्या…मला खरंच माफ कर, 2 महिने इथेच थांबावं लागेल…मलाही कल्पना नव्हती, पण आपल्या संसारासाठी….हे काम झालं ना, भरपूर पैसे मिळतील बघ”

सकाळी उठल्यापासून ते झोपेपर्यंत तीला सतत कामं सांगून हैराण करत असत..एवढंच नाही तर तिला घालूनपाडून बोलत खूप त्रास दिला गेला..पण ती निमूटपणे सहन करत गेली..

संध्या ने मुद्दाम सांगायचं टाळलं, की ती पोटुशी आहे ते…नाहीतर तिचा नवरा उगाच काळजी करत बसेल, आल्यावर त्याला ही आनंदवार्ता देण्याचं ठरवलं…

2 महिन्यांनी तिचा नवरा परत आला…त्याने बऱ्यापैकी पैसे कमवून आणले, यावेळी संध्याची चांगली हौस मौज झाली..आयुष्यात पहिल्यांदा असा आनंद तिने अनुभवला…तिने नवऱ्याला आनंद वार्ता दिली,

9 महिने निघून गेले…मालकाकडे काम करून ती घरभाडे वाचवत होती, पण नवऱ्याला तिला होणारा जाच कधीच सांगितला नाही…मालक शिवीगाळ करायचा तेव्हा तिला रडू येई, पण संसारासाठी ती सहन करत गेली..

संध्या ची सुखरूप प्रसूती झाली…

“साहेब, एवढा महिना फक्त समजून घ्या… पुढच्या महिन्यात नक्की देईन..”

“भाडं देता येत नसेल तर…मला हवं ते देशील?”

संध्याला त्याच्या वाईट हेतुची कल्पना आली..

“हे बघा साहेब, पैसे नाही म्हणून मी लाचार आहे..पण म्हणून ही असली थेरं जमणार नाही..आत्ताच्या आत्ता इथून चालते व्हा..”

संध्या असं बोलल्यावर मालक चिडला,

“ए…एक तर पैसे देत नाही…वर इतका माज..?”

संध्या चा गळा दाबत मालक अंगावर धावून येतो..

संध्या आपल्या झोपलेल्या बाळाकडे बघते आणि मालकाला एकच चपराक टाकते…हातात दांडा घेऊन मालकाला चांगलीच चोपते… आवाज ऐकून त्याची बायको आणि शेजारी धावून येतात…संध्या त्यांना सगळी हकीकत सांगते..मालक पुरता घाबरलेला असतो…सगळे मिळून त्याला अजून चोपतात…त्याची बायकोही चिडते..आणि संध्या चं असं रूप पाहून तीही घाबरते..


“पैसे पाहिजे काय…अरे नालायका… घरभाड्यातून जास्त काम तू करून घेतलंस माझ्याकडून… एक महिना थांब म्हटलं तर इतकी हिम्मत तुझी?”

“जोवर बाई म्हणून होते तोवर स्वतःसाठी सगळं सहन केलं… पण तू एका आईला डिवचलं…जेव्हा आई म्हणून बाई जन्म घेते तेव्हा वाईटाचा नाश करण्याइतपत सामर्थ्य तिच्यात निर्माण होतं. लक्षात ठेव, यापुढे कुठल्याही आईला डीवचायची हिम्मत करायची नाय…”

सर्वजण आई नावाच्या सामर्थ्यशाली बाईचं रौद्ररूप बघून अवाक झाले होते…
