 पण पाहिलं तर नवलच,

उठून तयार होऊन, झाडाझुड करून, नाष्टा बनवून ती देवपूजा करत होती, 

त्याला धक्का बसला,

ती म्हणाली,

“अहो दुपारी माझे मामा आणि मामी येणारेत जेवायला..”

अच्छा म्हणून हे चाललंय तर…त्याला हसू आलं..

दुसऱ्या दिवशी परत सगळं आवरून बसली,

“अहो संध्याकाळी माझे काका काकू येणारेत भेटायला, फार आठवण येत होती माझी त्यांना..त्यांनी असं घर पाहिलं तर काय म्हणतील ना? सगळं आवरून ठेवलं आहे, आणि सगळया स्वयंपाकाची सुद्धा तयारी झालीये..”

पाहुणे येणार म्हणून का असेना, ती घराकडे लक्ष देत होती हे काही कमी नव्हतं..

तिसऱ्या दिवशी परत तिचे आत्या मामा आले,

मग चुलत भावंडं,

मावस भावंडं,

रोजच पंगती उठू लागल्या,

माहेरची माणसं म्हणून तीही थकत नव्हती,

हेच सुरू होतं बरेच दिवस,

असंच एकदा ती परत आवरून बसली, 

त्याने विचारलं,

“आज कोण येणार?”

“कुणीच नाही”

“मग?”

“मग काय, पाहुणे येणार म्हणून फक्त आवरायचं का? इतर वेळी नीटनेटकं राहायला नको? हे असं दलिंदर सारखं राहायचं का रोज? आणि हो, तुमचं ब्लॅंकेट घडी करून ठेवा, काही व्यवस्थितपणाच नको तुला, आणि ते झालं की नाष्टा करून घ्या, पोहे तयार आहेत”

त्याच्या हातातला ग्लास खाली पडला, हसावं की रडावं कळेना,

पण चला काही का असेना, ती सुधारली,

आईचा फोन आला,

“काय रे? झालं ना सगळं सुरळीत?”

“हो..पण तुला कसं कळलं? मी काही बोललो नाही, तरी…एक मिनिट, तू म्हणालीस की मी करते काहीतरी, काय केलंस तू?”

“विशेष काही नाही, तिच्या सगळ्या नातेवाईकांना फोन करून सांगितलं… की ती तुमच्या आठवणीने खूप अस्वस्थ होतेय…आणि तिलाही सांगितलं, की तुझ्या काका, मामा, मावश्या तू लग्न करून गेलीस तसं तुला खूप miss करताय..झालं, त्यांनी एकेक मिळून दौरे काढले तिच्याकडे…माहेरची माणसं येणार म्हणून ती घर नीट ठेवणार हे माहीत होतं मला..आणि हे सतत करत राहिली तर एक दिवस त्याचं महत्व पटेल आणि सवयही होईल…हे मला माहित होतं.. आणि पुढे जे झालं ते तू पहिलंच आहेस..”

“आई तू धन्य आहेस” असं म्हणत त्याने फोनवरून दंडवत घातला…
