मेघना चा अहंकार एका क्षणात गाळून सारिका तिच्या जागेवर जाऊन बसली, पत्रकार नीरज ने हीच संधी साधली आणि तो तिच्या जवळ गेला…

नीरज अवाक होऊन पाहतच राहिला…

“माफ करा पण मी मुलाखत देऊ शकत नाही….”

सारिका मॅडम शब्दन शब्द खरं बोलत होत्या…त्यांची देशातील तरुणाईबद्दल तळमळ साफ दिसत होती…काहीतरी वेगळं होतं त्यांच्यात…नीरज तसाच माघारी फिरला…

दुसऱ्या दिवशी नीरज च्या ऑफिस मध्ये…

“झालं…पहिलंच काम म्हसणात घालवलं…म्हटलं होतं ना मी? तुम्हाला काहीएक जमणार नाहीये…”

“बरं… आता एक कागद पेन घ्या, आणि मी जे सांगतो ते लिहा…”

नीरज पटकन कागद पेन घेतो आणि सर काय सांगतात त्याकडे लक्ष देतो..

“मी…नीरज श्रीवास्तव… आजपासून प्रभात दैनिकाच्या पत्रकारितेचा राजीनामा देत आहे..”.

“काय?? का म्हणून आम्ही फुकट कामावर ठेवायचं तुम्हाला??”

नीरज कडे आता हो म्हणण्याशिवाय पर्याय नव्हता…

नीरज पुन्हा निराश होऊन सारिका च्या ऑफिस मध्ये फोन करतो आणि आपला अपमान होणार याची तयारी ठेऊन विचारतो…

त्या ठिकाणी गेल्यानंतर नीरज बराच वेळ सारिका ला शोधतो, पण त्या कुठेही सापडत नाही…अखेर एका ठिकाणी तो चहा प्यायला थांबतो..तिथे चहा पीत असताना त्याला एक फोन येतो…

“मला माहित होतं तुम्ही माझा पाठपुरावा करणार, म्हणून माझ्या रिसेप्शनिस्ट ला मी खोटं सांगितलं…”

“सारिका मॅडम?”

“होय…ब्लु हिल ही जागा अतिशय शांत आणि निसर्गरम्य आहे…तिथे थोडं फिरून या…म्हणजे डोक्यातून बाकीचे विचार निघून जातील…”

“एक जबाबदार पत्रकार दिसताय…”

“चेष्टा करताय का मॅडम, शोकेस रिकामं तर आहे, कुठलाच पुरस्कार नाही…”

सारिकाच्या प्रत्येक वाक्यातून इतकी तेजस्विता जाणवत होती की आता नीरज ला दडपण आलेलं…

“ठिके तुमच्या नोकरीचा प्रश्न आहे तर तुम्हाला माझी मुलाखत देते…”

नीरजच्या मनावरचं ओझं एकदम हलकं झालं…

“मी एका छोट्याश्या खेडेगावातून आलेली एक मुलगी, शाळेत अभ्यासात हुशार…आमच्या गुरुजींनी आम्हाला योग्य दिशा दिली….घरात गरिबी पाचवीला पुजलेली…”

“मग या व्यवसायात आगमन कसं झालं?”

“गावातील सावकार आमची जमीन बळकावू पाहत होता…मी लढले आणि जमीन विकू दिली नाही…तो एका मोठ्या बिल्डर ला जमीन विकू पाहत होता…मग मला समजलं, की जमीन जर डेव्हलप केली तर त्यातच खरा पैसा आहे…गुरुजींनी सांगितलं, की जमीन डेव्हलप करायची असेल तर शास्त्रशुद्ध शिक्षण घे….”

इतक्यात सारिका ला एक फोन आला आणि ती उठून बाहेर गेली…

एवढेच शब्द नीरज च्या कानी पडले, त्या फोन नंतर सारिका तडक तिथून निघाली…
नीरज ला फारच तोकडी माहिती मिळाली होती, पण तेवढी नोकरी वाचवण्यासाठी पुरेशी होती…

ऑफिस मध्ये ते त्याने सादर केले आणि तात्पुरती त्याची नोकरी वाचली…

नंतर काही मुलाखती त्याने घेतल्या, त्या अगदी सहज त्याला मिळाल्या…सारिका मॅडम इतका त्रास त्याला इतर मुलाखतींना झाला नाही…पण पुन्हा तेच सगळं वाट्याला आलं जेव्हा राशीद ची मुलाखत घेण्याची वेळ आली….
