 “5 वर्षांपूर्वी माझा कसा अपमान केलेला त्यांनी विसरलो नाहीये मी, आणि त्यांना आज जावयाची आठवण आली?? माझ्या घरात पाय ठेवायचा नाही सांग त्यांना..”

“अरे झालं गेलं विसरूया ना…माझे आई वडील आहे ते, माहेर म्हणून हक्काचं काहीच नाही मिळालं मला या 5 वर्षात, आता तरी..”

“विसरलीस? हेच तुझे आई वडील, ज्यांनी लोकांसमोर माझी लायकी काढलेली, मी बेरोजगार, गरीब म्हणून माझ्या इज्जतीचे धिंडवडे काढलेले..तू माझ्या सोबत पळून आली नसतीस तर आपलं लग्न कधीही झालं नसतं..”

“ते जे काही बोलले ते मुलीच्या काळजीपोटी..”

“तू त्यांची बाजू घेतेस?? स्वतःच्या मुलीला घराचे दारं बंद केली त्यांनी..विसरली का??”

मेघनाला समजत नव्हतं की दिनेशला कसं समजवावं, एकीकडे त्याचा रागही बरोबर होता आणि दुसरीकडे आई वडिलांचीही आठवण तिला येत होती..

तिची घालमेल सासूबाईंना समजत होती, पण त्या क्षणी त्या काही बोलल्या नाही..

एकदा दिनेशचे काही मित्र आणि त्यांच्या बायका घरी आले, त्यांचं यथोचित स्वागत मेघनाने केलं..नाश्त्याला तिची स्पेशल रेसिपी मेदूवडे आणि सांभार बनवला. मित्रांच्या बायकांनीही कौतुक केलं..

“खरंच मेघना, दुसऱ्या जातीतील असून तू घराला इतकं घरपण दिलंस की बघून मन सुखावून गेलं बघ..घरही किती छान ठेवलं आहेस, देव्हारा अगदी सुंदर…किचन मधली मांडणी इतकी सुरेख…”

सासूबाई आणि दिनेश मेघनाचं कौतुक ऐकत होते, पाहुणे गेल्यावर दोघेही मनोमन सुखावले.दिनेश आईला म्हणाला..

“बघ आई, मेघनाला बायको करून आणली तो निर्णय योग्यच होता ना??”

“तुमच्या लग्नाला माझा सुरवातीपासून काहीही विरोध नव्हताच मुळी..”

“नाहीतर हिचे आई वडील…आज म्हणताय मुलगी अन जावयाला भेटायचं..”

“तू आपलं घर नीट बघितलंस का रे??”

“म्हणजे??”

“तो देव्हारा..आपल्याकडे अशी मांडणी नसते..किचनमध्ये आपल्याकडचे पदार्थ बनत नाहीत..मसाले वेगळे वापरले जातात…घराची सजावट ते अंगणातील रांगोळी , सगळं वेगळं आहे..”

“तक्रार करतेय मेघना ची??”

“कशी करू तक्रार?? घर इतकं छान सांभाळलं तिने..मला सुनेच्या कुटाळ्या करायची संधीच मिळाली नाही..”

“तक्रार आहे की कौतुक..मला समजत नाहीये..”

“हे जे घर आहे ना, याला मंदिरासारखं तिने बनवलं…पण यात तिच्या माहेराचे ठसे आहेत..तिच्या आईसारखी नाजूक, रेखीव रांगोळी तिने सासरी आणली, आईचा नीटनेटकेपणा आणला, वडिलांचा प्रामाणिकपणा आणि कष्टाळू वृत्ती आणली, भावाचा मिश्किलपणा आणला,देव्हाऱ्यातलं मांगल्य आणलं, आईच्या हातची अन्नपूर्णा आणली…या घरात तिच्यासोबत तिच्या माहेराचे ठसेही आले मागोमाग… त्यांना नको नाकारुस..”

दिनेश विचारात पडला.. थोड्या वेळाने मेघनाला हाक मारली..

“कधी येताय तुझे आई वडील?? कळव मला..स्टेशनवर घ्यायला जावं लागेल..”
