मुलाकडची लोकं आली,

आल्या आल्या घरातली मंडळी अगदी पंतप्रधान आल्यासारखे पाहुणचार करू लागली,

होणाऱ्या सासूबाईंपेक्षा वयाने मोठ्या असलेल्या तिच्या माम्या, आत्या सासूबाईंच्या पाया पडू लागली,

सासूबाई रुबाबात एकदम पाय पुढे करत होत्या..

कुणालाही अडवत नव्हत्या..

सासूबाईंना सोनं दिलं..

साडी दिली,

अजून काही लागलं तर हक्काने सांगा..

तिचे आई वडील म्हणू लागले,

सासूबाई नको म्हणाल्या,

कार्यक्रम पार पडला,

भाऊ, बहिणी व्हिडिओ काढत होते एकेका कार्यक्रमाचे,

शुभदा सोडून कुणालाही वेगळं वाटत नव्हतं,

निघायची वेळ झाली,

शेवटचा एक विधी म्हणून एका भांड्यात पाणी आणलं गेलं,

शुभदाच्या आईने त्यांना त्यात पाय ठेवायला लावले,

त्यांचे पाय धुतले,

आणि पदराने पुसले,

परत पाया पडल्या,

हे बघून शुभदाचा मात्र राग अनावर झाला,

तिच्या बहिणीच्या हे लक्षात आलं,

शुभदा उगाच काही बोलून बसेल म्हणून तिला पटकन बाजूला नेलं..

पाहुणे गेले तशी ती आई वडील आणि नातेवाईकांवर भडकली,

काय मूर्खपणा चाललाय हा? माझ्या आईने असं काय केलंय की त्या सासूबाईंचे पाय धुवायला लावताय? मुलीचे आई बाप होणं गुन्हा आहे का? आणि कशाला हवंय त्यांना इतकं सोनं नाणं? त्यांच्याकडे काही कमी आहे का? का भिकाऱ्यासारखं मागताय ते?”

“त्यांनी मागितलं नाही बाळा, आपणच देतोय स्वतःहून..” आई वडील म्हणाले,

ती चरफडत गेली तिच्या खोलीत..

पण हे सगळं तिच्या होणाऱ्या सासूबाईंनी ऐकलं होतं..

त्यांची पर्स राहिलेली म्हणून त्या घरात परत आलेल्या आणि दारात जाताच त्यांच्या कानावर शुभदाचे हे वाक्य कानी पडले,

शुभदा तर खोलीत गेली पण घरच्यांनी सासूबाईंना दारात पाहिलं..

त्यांनी सगळं ऐकलं हे त्यांना कळलं आणि ते जाम घाबरले,

सासूबाई शांत होत्या,

त्यांनी हळूच विचारलं,

शुभदा कुठे आहे? तिला भेटायचं आहे..

बहिणीने त्यांना तिच्या खोलीपर्यंत सोडलं..

दार लावलेलं होतं..

दारावर त्यांनी टकटक केलं,

शुभदा ओरडली,

कोण आलंय आता?

तिने रागारागाने दार उघडलं..
