लक्ष्मी आई होणार आहे हे ऐकून घरातलं वातावरण अगदी आनंदून जातं… पण सर्वांच्या मनात एक धास्ती निर्माण होते…लक्ष्मी ने आपली गुंडागर्दी अश्या अवस्थेतही चालू ठेवली तर? आणि तिला रोखायला गेलो अन तणावामुळे ती परत बेशुद्ध झाली तर? इकडे आड तिकडे विहीर अशी परिस्थिती झाली…

लक्ष्मी ला घरी नेण्यात आलं..

“ए लक्ष्मी…पार्टी दे ना बे…तू तो अपुन को छोटा चेतन लाने वाली है…”

सर्वांना वाटलेलं की लक्ष्मी तिच्या नेहमीच्या अंदाजात रिऍक्ट होईल…पण लक्ष्मी काहीशी गंभीर दिसली…

त्या दिवसापासून ती पुन्हा आधीसारखी लक्ष्मी बनली…आईपणाची चाहूल लागली आणि ती पूर्णपणे बदलली…

निखिल आणि आईला शंका येते, की ही मानसिक आजारापासून पूर्णपणे बरी तर झाली नाहीये ना? ते तिला त्या मेंदूच्या डॉक्टर कडे नेतात…

डॉकटर तिला चेक करतात..

“माफ करा पण तिच्यात काहीच सुधारणा दिसून आली नाही आम्हाला..”

“कसं शक्य आहे डॉक्टर? आम्ही तिच्यातला बदल बघतोय…ती अगदी नॉर्मल झालीये…”

लक्ष्मी बाहेर बसलेली असते…निखिल आणि आई तिच्या जवळ येतात…मग तिघेही परत घरी जातात…

घरी गेल्यावर निखिल आणि सासूबाई तिला विचारतात..

“बेटा.. काही त्रास होतोय का?”

“आई..निखिल..मला माफ करा..”

“माफ? कशाबद्दल?”

“मी हे जे सगळं करत होते ना..गुंडागर्दी, मवालीगिरी…हे सगळं नाटक होतं..”

“काय?”

आई आणि निखिल दोघेही उठून उभे राहतात..

“अगं पण का केलं असं तू??”

“आई…मी दवाखान्यात होते…मला शुद्ध आलेली…पण तरीही मी निपचित पडून डॉक्टर आणि नर्स चं बोलणं ऐकत होते…ते म्हणत होते की मी एकतर कोमात जाईन नाहीतर माझं व्यक्तिमत्त्व बदलून जाईल… बस, मी याचाच फायदा घेतला..माझं व्यक्तिमत्त्व बदललं आहे असा आव मी आणला…”

“अगं पण का केलंस तू असं लक्ष्मी?? तुझ्या अश्या वागण्याने आम्हाला काय काय भोगावं लागलं कल्पना आहे का तुला?”

“हो..सगळं मान्य आहे…मी एक स्वतंत्र मुलगी होते.. लग्न झालं आणि मला अश्या बंधनात अडकवलं की माझा जीव घुसमटू लागला..तुमच्यासाठी मी एक आदर्श सून म्हणवून वावरत होते…तुम्हाला त्याचा आनंद वाटत होता… पण मला काय वाटायचं याचा विचार केला कुणी?? मला स्वातंत्र्य हवं होतं…. मोकळेपणा हवा होता.. मनाला वाटेल तसं जगण्याचा अधिकार हवा होता…आणि म्हणून..”

“लक्ष्मी…तू हे चांगलं केलं नाहीस..” निखिल ओरडला..

तेवढ्यात सासूबाई निखिल ला शांत करतात..

“सूनबाईने बरोबर केलं…अरे तिच काय..मीही या स्त्रीपणाच्या बंधनात घुसमटत होते..पण या बंधनाची इतकी सवय झालेली की स्वातंत्र्य काय असतं हा विसर पडलेला मला…पण सूनबाईने मला तिच्या गॅंग मध्ये सामील का केलं याची जाणीव मला आता झालीये…तिला मलाही मुक्त करायचं होतं… या पिंजऱ्यातून… आणि खरं सांगते…स्वातंत्र्य काय असतं हे मला तिच्यासोबत राहून समजलं…आयुष्याचा आनंद काय असतो…आपलं अस्तित्व काय असतं हे तिच्या सोबत राहून समजलं….एका स्त्री ला स्वातंत्र्यासाठी या थराला जावं लागलं…हेच दुर्दैव आहे….”

“सासूबाई…झालं गेलं गंगेला मिळालं..आता आपण बाळासाठी सगळं करूया..”

त्या दिवशी सर्व पोलखोल होते आणि घरात एक अघोषित नियम लागू होतो..की स्त्री ला कुठल्याही बंधनात अडकू द्यायचं नाही आणि तिला स्वातंत्र्याचा पुरेपूर उपभोग घेऊ द्यायचा…

3 वर्षानंतर…

“ए AB…. भूक लगेली है, वो दूध की बाटली पास कर…”

“AB??”

“आजीबाई नाही का तू माझी??”

“ओ तेरी….”
