 “विवेक सर तुम्हाला या candidate ला काही प्रश्न विचारायची आहेत का?”

विवेक सुन्न झालेल्या नजरेने निशा कडे बघत होता, ती परत आली होती, तब्बल चार वर्षांनी, त्याचाच कंपनीत जॉब साठी, विवेक फार झटपट नोकरीत प्रगती करून वरच्या पोझिशन ला गेला होता…पण निशा? चार वर्षांपूर्वी त्या प्लॅटफॉर्म वरून ती गेली ती गेलीच… कायमची….आणि आज समोर…त्याची पोझिशन, त्याचं काम..क्षणार्धात सर्वांचा विसर पडलेला….

निशा मृत नजरेने त्याला सामोरी गेली, विचारलेल्या प्रश्नांची उत्तरं दिली आणि निघूनही गेली..

“सर…काय झालं तुम्हाला? तब्येत ठीक नाही का??”

“अं…?? नो नो, आय एम ok… या कॅण्डीडेट ला हायर करा….रेफरन्स आहे माझा…”

“सर मग आधी सांगितलं असतं… इंटरव्ह्यू घेतलाही नसता…”

निशा कामावर रुजू झाली…पण ती चार वर्षांपूर्वीची निशा नव्हतीच…. काहीतरी घडून गेलं होतं… खूप भयानक….

विवेक आपल्या केबीन मध्ये येऊन बसला…ग्लास मधील पूर्ण पाणी त्याने संपवलं….समोर लॅपटॉप चालू होता, आज पुन्हा त्याला फेसबुक वर ‘रिया शर्मा’ चं फ्रेंड रेकमेंडेशन दिसलं आणि तो वैतागला…या मुलीचं फ्रेंड म्हणून इतक्या वेळा रेकमेंडेशन यायचं की तो विचार करायचा, हे सतत का??

ते बाजूला ठेऊन तो घडलेल्या घटनेचा विचार करू लागला… पुन्हा एकदा भूतकाळात शिरला….चार वर्षांपूर्वी च्या….

कॉलेज मध्ये डिबेट स्पर्धा होती, “भारतीय संस्कृती विरुद्ध पाश्चात्य संस्कृती”

विवेक चपखलपणे आपली मतं मांडत होता,

“पाश्चात्य लोकांनी कर्मकांडात अडकून न पडता प्रगती साधली, मोठमोठे इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर, टेक्नॉलॉजि यात ते अग्रेसर आहेत..आपण मात्र देवभोळेपणा करत देवावर सगळं सोडून दिलं…”

“Wrong… मिस्टर विवेक, जी प्रगती त्यांनी आत्ता करून दाखवली आहे ती आपल्या पूर्वजांनी फार वर्षांपूर्वीपासून अवगत होती, पुरातन मोठमोठी मंदिर, सेतू यांची रचना आजच्या टेक्नॉलॉजि ला सुद्धा लाजवेल….”

विवेक च्या तोडीस तोड उत्तरं देणारी निशा त्याला दिसली, ती विवेक ला ज्युनिअर… नुकताच कॉलेजात प्रवेश घेतलेली…घारे डोळे, नितळ चेहरा, सडसडीत बांधा.. अगदी कुणीही प्रेमात पडावं अशी…पण बोलण्यात प्रचंड आत्मविश्वास आणि तडफदार बोलणं यामुळे कॉलेज मध्ये ती प्रचंड लोकप्रिय होती. कुठल्याही गोष्टींचं प्रतिनिधित्व ती करायची…कॉलेज मध्ये विद्यार्थी प्रतिनिधी साठी निवडणुका होत्या, विवेक आणि निशा…दोघेही उभे राहिले…दोघे कॉलेजात सारखेच लोकप्रिय…त्यामुळे लढत चुरशीची होईल असं सर्वांना वाटत होतं… आणि तसंच झालं…दोघांना समान मतं पडली…आता काय, दोघे मिळून प्रतिनिधी म्हणून काम करू लागले…

विवेक ला खूप बऱ्याच मुली आवडायच्या, पण निशा मध्ये काहीतरी वेगळं होतं, विवेक च्या तोडीस तोड हुशार फक्त निशा होती…दोघे मिळून काम करू लागले, कॉलेजचे फंक्शन, इतर कार्यक्रम… त्यांना सोबत राहावे लागायचे..याच सहवासाने त्यांच्यात प्रेम फुललं….ते बहरत गेलं…आता दोघांना एकमेकांशिवाय राहणं अशक्य बनलं…एक दिवस विवेक ने त्याचा कॉलेज ग्रुप ला सहज एकदा घरी बोलावले…निशाही आली होती…

विवेक ला वडील नव्हते, त्याच्या आईनेच त्याचं सर्व काही पाहिलं होतं…ग्रुप मधली निशा त्यांना खूप भावली, तिचं बोलणं, तिचे संस्कार…सर्वजण घरी परतल्यावर विवेक ची आई हळूच विवेक ला म्हणते…

“निशा ला सून म्हणून आणशील का?”

“आई???”

“आई आहे मी, मुलाची नजर बरोबर ओळखते….आणि निशा खरोखर मला आवडली…”

विवेक लाजून चुर झाला..

ही खबर कधी एकदा निशा ला देतो असं त्याला झालं…

दुसऱ्या दिवशी कॉलेज ला गेल्यावर त्याला समजतं की निशा आज आली नाहीये, तो तिला कॉल करतो पण फोनही बंद..तिच्या हॉस्टेल वर चौकशी करतो तेव्हा समजतं की ती शिक्षण सोडून गावी परत जातेय…

विवेक ला धक्का बसतो…असं काय झालं अचानक? निशा का जातेय?? ती प्लॅटफॉर्म वर अजून पोचली नसणार…

तो तडक प्लॅटफॉर्म वर जातो, पण ट्रेन आधीच सुटलेली असते…दरवाजापाशी निशा भरल्या डोळ्यांनी विवेक कडे बघत असते….इतकी तडफदार मुलगी, पण आज ती अत्यंत भावुक आणि लाचार दिसत होती….काय झालं होतं नक्की?? 

विवेक गेली चार वर्षे हाच विचार करत राहिला…तिने तिचा नंबरही बंद केलेला…कारण कळायला काहीच मार्ग नाही…विवेक आयुष्यात खुप पुढे गेला पण निशा ची सल कायम मनात घेऊनच…आज ती पुन्हा समोर आली…त्याचा आयुष्यात पुन्हा एकदा प्रेमाची बहर आली… कधी एकदा जाऊन तिच्याशी बोलतो असं त्याला झालं..

निशा कंपनीत रुजू झाली, विवेक ने तिला आपल्या केबीन मध्ये बोलवायला निरोप धाडला…

“मे आय कमीन सर?”

“सर? निशा…अगं मी विवेक…तुझा विवेक…सर काय म्हणतेस?? आणि कुठे गेली होतीस तू? न सांगता?? किती शोधलं तुला.. तुझ्यावाचून माझं काय झालं असेल कल्पना आहे तुला? काय झालेलं? कुठे होतीस?”

विवेक ने एकावर एक प्रश्नांचा मारा सुरू केला, निशा मात्र चेहऱ्यावर शून्य भाव आणून फक्त ऐकत होती…

“निशा, अगं बोल काहीतरी…”

“सर, मला कामाची माहिती द्या, मी प्रामाणिकपणे सर्व काम करेन..”

“अगं मी काय विचारतोय आणि तू काय बोलतेय?”

“येते मी…”

असं म्हणत निशा निघून गेली, विवेक सैरभैर झाला…ही का वागतेय असं?

कंपनीत तो तिच्याशी बोलण्याचा प्रयत्न करत होता पण ती त्याला टाळायची…

एक दिवस तिला गाठून तो म्हणाला,

“निशा, I love you…आपण पुन्हा आपल्या प्रेमाची सुरवात करूया, नव्याने…plz नाही म्हणू नकोस…तुझ्या आठवणीत मी ही चार वर्षे कशी काढली माझं मलाच माहीत…आणि का इतकी शांत झालीस तू? तुही प्रेम करत होतीस ना माझ्यावर?”

“विवेक…बस्स….एका घटस्फोटितेसोबत लग्न करशील का तू??”

“घटस्फोटित?”

“होय, आपलं कॉलेज मधलं प्रकरण जेव्हा माझ्या घरी समजलं तेव्हा त्यांनी गावातल्याच एका मुलासोबत माझं लग्न ठरवून टाकलं…मी विरोध केला…पण वडिलांनी जीव देण्याची धमकी दिली, नाईलाजाने मी लग्न केलं…झालं गेलं विसरून संसार करायचा असं मी ठरवलं…पण नवरा दारुड्या निघाला, दारूपायी घर दार विकलं, आम्ही रस्त्यावर आलो, वडिलांचं आकस्मित निधन झालं, मला भाऊ नव्हता, आईजवळ जवळचे नातेवाईक होते, आईनेही सांगितलं की तुझा संसार आणि तू…माझे फार कमी दिवस राहिलेत…मग मी सासरी भांडून घटस्फोट मागितला, मला मारहाण केली गेली, पोलिसात तक्रार केली तर सासरच्यांनी बड्या लोकांची मदत घेऊन मलाच चारित्र्य हीन ठरवले…पण मी अखेर पर्यन्त लढले आणि घटस्फोट मिळवला…आता कुठे नवीन आयुष्य सुरवात करतेय..हे बघ, माझं प्रेम कायम तुझ्यावरच होतं, पण मला माझ्यामुळे तुझी इभ्रत चव्हाट्यावर आणायची नाही…काय म्हणेल समाज? एका प्रतिष्ठित कंपनीच्या मॅनेजर ने एका कलंकित आणि घटस्फोटित बाईशी लग्न केलं? तुझं नाव खराब होईल, तुला खुप समस्यांना सामोरं जावं लागेल माझ्यामुळे…मी आता आयुष्यभर एकटी राहून माझं पोट भरेन…तुही तुला साजेशी जोडीदार बघ, आणि नवीन आयुष्याला सुरवात कर…”

डोळे पुसत निशा निघून गेली, विवेकचं काही ऐकायच्या मनस्थितीत ती नव्हतीच…

विवेक ला खूप वाईट वाटलं, इतकी सुंदर आणि हुशार मुलगी, किती वाईट परिस्थिती ला सामोरी गेली, तिच्याच वाट्याला का हे दुःख? 

काही दिवसांनी कंपनीत गेट together होतं, तिथे सर्वांच्या फॅमिलीज ला सुद्धा आमंत्रण देण्यात आलं…

कार्यक्रमात एक खेळ खेळला गेला..चिट्ठीत ज्याचं नाव आलं त्याने स्टेज वर येऊन एखाद्या व्यक्तीकडे आपल्याला जे हवं ते मागायचं…

विवेक चं नाव आलं, विवेक स्टेज वर आला…एव्हाना कंपनीत सर्वांना निशा चा भूतकाळ माहीत झाला होता…

विवेक स्टेज वर आला, त्याने बोलायला सुरुवात केली, 

“मला माझं प्रेम परत हवंय, एका व्यक्तीपासून…गेल्या चार वर्षात त्या व्यक्तीसोबत जे काही झालं त्यात तिचा काहीएक दोष नव्हता, ती चार वर्षे जणू काही घडलीच नाही असा विचार करून मला तिचा स्वीकार करायचा आहे…ती जर मला परत मिळाली तर मी स्वतःला भाग्यवान समजेल…”

“निशा ला भरून आलं, पण तरीही डोक्यात तेच…समाज काय म्हणेल, विवेक च्या अब्रू चा प्रश्न…मी एक घटस्फोटिता…” काही व्हायच्या आत ती जागेवरून उठून निघायला लागली…इतक्यात माईक वरून एका स्त्री चा आवाज आला…विवेक ची आई होती ती…

“पोरी, मला अश्या तडफदार मुलीची सासू व्हायचं भाग्य मिळू देशील? आणि ज्या समाजाचा विचार तू करतेय तो आपल्यापासूनच सुरू होतो…समाजाची काळजी तू करू नकोस…पतीविना एकटं आयुष्य जगणं कसं असतं हे खूप चांगलं जाणून आहे मी…तुझं दुःख माझ्याहून जास्त कोण समजू शकेल? आणि तुला स्वीकारून आम्ही तुझ्यावर उपकार करतोय अशी भावना मुळीच ठेऊ नको, आणि आमच्या मनातही नाही ते…उलट एक हुशार, तडफदार आणि कर्तृत्ववान स्त्री ला माझ्या घरात लक्ष्मी म्हणून आणलं तर माझं भाग्य समजेल मी…”

निशा मागे वळली, स्टेज वर जाऊन त्या माऊलीच्या गळ्यात पडून रडू लागली…समोर बसलेल्या सर्वांनी टाळ्यांच्या गजरात त्यांचा नव्या आयुष्याला आशीर्वाद दिला…

एका स्त्री ने दुसऱ्या स्त्री ला समजून घेतल्यामुळे 3 आयुष्याचं आज सोनं झालं होतं…
