पण नंतर तिला ओझं वाटू लागलं..

तेवढयात घरी पाहुणे आले,

त्यांना जेवायचा आग्रह सासूबाईंनी धरला..

झालं,

अजून कणिक मळलं,

भाजी टाकली,

जेवायला बसणार तोच पाहुणा म्हणाला,

माझा उपास आहे..

तिने कपाळावर हात मारून घेतला..

झणझणीत भगर टाकली,

पाहुणा गेला…

संध्याकाळी जाउबाई उशिराने घरी आल्या,

सासूबाईंनी विचारलं,

“इतका वेळ?”

“अहो मावशीकडे गेलेली, ती तिचं दुखणं सांगत बसली..वेळ कसा गेला कळलंच नाही..”

“असुदेत, बरी आहे का ती?”

“हो आता बरी आहे..”

“तू खूप थकल्या सारखी दिसतेय..”

“हो का? काय माहित..”

महाराणी फिरून आल्या, तरी थकलेल्या दिसल्या..मी नाही दिसत कधी यांना थकलेली..

हेच जर मी उशिरा आले असते तर धिंगाणा घातला असता…मीरा मनातल्या मनात म्हणाली..

तिला आज असह्य झालेलं..

सगळा भार तिच्यावर असे..

रात्री जेवण करून सर्वजण खोलीत गेले..

जातांना जाउबाई मीराला हळूच म्हणाल्या,

फ्रीजमध्ये तुझ्यासाठी प्रसाद आहे, खाऊन घे…

मीराने ऐकून न ऐकल्यासारखं केलं..

ती खोलीत गेली..

मीराचा नवरा बेडवर लोळत होता,

तिची आदळआपट चाललेली,

त्याला समजलं,

काहीतरी बिनसलंय..

“काय झालं?”

“काही नाही..”

हे ऐकून तो परत लोळत बसला..

ती अजूनच चिडली,

“मी मोलकरीण वाटते का हो तुम्हाला?”

“झालं काय पण..?”
