आई आणि मनुला धक्काच बसला..

“हा असा विचार तुम्ही कसा करू शकता? मुलगी जड झालीये का आपल्याला?”

मनु मटकन खाली बसली.. विचार करून म्हणाली,

“आई मी तयार आहे..”

गावातच दोघांचं लग्न लावण्यात आलं, आई हतबल होती, मनु लाचार… गावातली लोकं मनूच्या बापालाच बोलू लागले… त्यांनाही हे आवडलं नाही, पण बोलणार कोण?

वर्ष सरत गेली, जितू शिकून नोकरीला लागला..

जसजसा काळ जात होता तसतसं जीतूने गावाकडे संपर्क कमी केला..कामात असेल म्हणून आई बाबा मनाचं समाधान करत गेले…

तिथे काही दिवस उपचार झाले आणि बाबांना घरी आणण्यात आलं..वय होत चाललं होतं त्यांचं..डॉक्टरांनी पूर्ण आराम सांगितलेला..

“आराम केला तर खाणार काय? जितू आता तर फोनही उचलत नाही..”

एके दिवशी मनुने दुसऱ्या नंबर वरून त्याला फोन लावला..तिकडून पोलिसांनी उचलला..

माहिती समजली की जितू अमली पदार्थाच्या आरोपाखाली पकडला गेलाय, अनेक मुलींनी छळाचे आरोपही त्याच्यावर लावलेत..

आई बापाला हे कळता कामा नये..

भरीस भर म्हणून आईही अंथरुणाला खिळली..

मनु तिचं सगळं आवरून आई बाबांकडे आली..

“बाबा, काळजी करू नका…मी आहे ना?”

तिने शेतातली कामं करायला घेतली, मजूर लावले, उत्पन्न निघत होतं थोडंफार… जमाखर्च, मार्केटमध्ये शेतमाल देणं सगळं बघू लागली..

आलेले पैसे बाबांच्या हातात देऊ लागली…

सकाळी लवकर उठून स्वयंपाक करायची, आई बाबांची औषधं द्यायची…त्यांचं सगळं आवरून दिलं की शेतात जायची, काम करायची… संध्याकाळी घरी आली की परत कामाला लागायची…आई वडिलांचं सगळं नीट करून मगच निजायला जायची..

एके दिवशी गावातला एक माणूस घरी आला, बाबांना सांगू लागला..

“जितूची खबर ठेवता की नाही? हे बघा पेपर मध्ये काय आलंय..”

बाबांना जितूच्या सगळ्या करामती समजल्या…

ते डोकं झोडत बसले…भिंतीवर डोकं आपटत रडू लागले..

आईला हे समजलं तेव्हा ती तर सुन्न झाली…

दोघेही अश्रू गाळत एका ठिकाणी सुन्न बसून होते..

संध्याकाळी मनु घरी आली,

“बाबा, यावेळी चांगलं उत्पन्न आलं बरं का…चांगला पैसा येईल यावेळी..आणि तुमची औषधं संपलेली ना? मी त्या गणेशला सांगून मागवून घेतली..घ्या बरं..आणि आई..”

त्यांनी जाहीर केलं..

“मनू आपल्याला सोडून गेली..”

आई बाबांचं विश्वच हादरलं.. लोकं सांत्वन करत होती… तिचं अंतिम कार्य करायला मजूर लोकं आले..

पाहुणे आले, अंतिम संस्कार आणि इतर विधी झाल्या..

सगळे आपापल्या घरी परतले,

आई वडील घरात एकटे..

शून्यात नजर..

बाबा डोकं झोडायला लागले…

“मी मारलं तुला मने, मी मारलं..”

आईने त्यांना शांत केलं..”.काहीही काय बोलताय?”

हे ऐकून आईच्या चेहऱ्यावरची माशीही हलली नाही, बाबा आईचा रोष स्वीकारायला तयार होते…

पण तसं काहीच झालं नाही..

“रमे…मला मार..मारून टाक.. मी अपराधी आहे, पण काहीतरी बोल गं…”

त्यांनी आईच्या खांद्यावर हात ठेवला तशी आई आडवी झाली…निष्प्राण…!!!

बाबा मागे सरकले…

रमा सोडून गेली होती…लेकीचं दुखणं दूर करायला आई स्वतः तिला शोधायला निघाली..

आणि बापाला त्याच्या कर्माचं फळ मिळालं…
