अशातच तिचं लग्न ठरवलं गेलं,

मुलगा वडिलांनीच पसंत केला, नर्मदाला तयार राहायला सांगितलं, तिचं मत विचारणं दूरच..

जेनिफरला विशेष वाटलं,

“तुला न विचारता इतक्या लहान वयात तुझं लग्न? आमच्याकडे मी जो मुलगा शोधेल त्याच्याशीच लग्न केलं जाईल”

नर्मदेला रडू आलं,

किती तफावत,

पण बंड करायची ताकद नव्हती, धाक प्रचंड, वडिलांचा निर्णय अंतिम..

तिचं लग्न झालं,

नर्मदा सासरी गेली, जेनिफरसोबत असलेला संवाद संपला,

अधूनमधून माहेरी गेली की तिच्याशी पत्रव्यवहार होत असे,

नर्मदा मोठी होत होती, सासरी रुळत होती,

इकडे नर्मदा सासरच्या जाचाखाली दबत होती आणि तिकडे जेनिफर नाही पटलं म्हणून नवऱ्याला सोडून आपलं आयुष्य आपल्या मर्जीने जगत होती,

नर्मदेला ती सोय नव्हती,

खूप वाटायचं, सगळं सोडून द्यावं, माहेरी जावं..

पण तसं केलं तर ना माहेरी जागा मिळणार ना सासरी,

गपगुमान सोसत राहिली..

हळूहळू परिस्थिती बदलली,

नर्मदेची किंमत कळू लागली, घरात तिच्याशिवाय पान हलत नसे,

आता नवरा आणि सासूही तिचं कौतुक करायचे, तिच्या मताला किंमत द्यायचे,

संसार कसा केला, संकटांवर कशी मात केली यावर चर्चा करत सुखी संसाराच्या यशाकडे कौतुकाने बघत,

यात जेनिफरचा विसरच पडलेला,

पण एके दिवशी अचानक फोन वाजला,

तिकडून जेनिफर बोलत होती,

नर्मदेला भरून आलं, खूप दिवसांनी तिचा आवाज ऐकलेला..

“कशी आहेस जेनिफर? किती दिवसांनी बोलतोय आपण.”

“आज मला सगळ्यांशी बोलायचं आहे”

“म्हणजे?”

“काही नाही, आठवण आलेली तुझी सहज..”

“काय मग, कसं चाललंय तुझं..दुसरं लग्न केलंस की नाही?”

“दुसरं लग्न मोडून कित्येक वर्षं गेली..पहिल्या नवऱ्यापासून 2 मुलं आणि दुसऱ्या नवऱ्यापासून 3..”

नर्मदा अवाक झाली, काय बोलावं कळेना..

“माझ्या मर्जीनुसार आयुष्य जगले, वाटलं तेव्हा नवऱ्यासोबत राहिले..वाटलं तेव्हा सोडून दिलं..पण मुलांची वाताहत झाली हे खरं..”

“कशी आहेत मुलं?”

“माझ्याकडे नाहीत..”

“म्हणजे?”

“म्हणजे, माहीत नाही कुठे आहेत..माझ्याशी संबंध नाही ठेवला त्यांनी..लहान मुलगा आहे संपर्कात. पण तेही त्याला संपत्तीचा वाटा हवाय म्हणून कोर्टकचेरी चालू आहे..”

“तू बरी आहेस ना?”
