प्रिया ने आज नाखुषीनेच जेवण केलं, तिचं मन आज तिला काही स्वस्थ बसू देत नव्हतं.

“आधी किती छान होतं, वाढदिवस आला की आठवडाभर घरात तयारी सुरू असायची…”

प्रिया आईवडिलांची एकुलती एक मुलगी. लग्न एखाद्या श्रीमंत मुलाशी करण्यापेक्षा कष्टाळू मुलाशी करेन असा तिचा हट्ट होता, आणि तसाच मुलगा तिला मिळाला होता.

मोहित एका कंपनीत नोकरीला होता, लग्नानंतर दोघेही त्याच्या शहरात राहायला गेले. घर आलिशान नसलं तरी लागतील तेवढ्या सोयी होत्या. माहेराला जितक्या सोयी होत्या तितक्या मात्र नव्हत्या. प्रियाने मात्र कधीही त्याची तक्रार केली नव्हती.

मोहित चा प्रियावर प्रचंड जीव. तिला तो खूप जपत असे. प्रिया ला याहून जास्त काहीही नको होतं. मात्र काही दिवसांपासून मोहित तिला टाळतोय असं तिला वाटू लागलं.

तिचा वाढदिवस जवळ येत होता आणि अजूनही मोहित ने काहीच प्लॅन केलं नव्हतं. अगदी महागडी गिफ्ट किंवा महागडं डिनर जरी तिला नको असलं तरी निदान बाहेर कुठेतरी फिरायला जावं आणि एकत्र दिवस घालवावा अशी तिची ईच्छा होती. पण मोहित मात्र असा वागत होता की जणू तो विसरलाय, किंवा त्याला त्याचं काही गांभीर्य नाही.

प्रिया ला इतके दिवस काही वाटत नव्हतं पण आज मात्र तिला सल जाणवू लागली. रात्री सुद्धा मोहित तिच्याशी गप्पा न मारता मोबाईल वर तासनतास गुंग राही आणि तसाच झोपी जाई. प्रिया बिचारी वाट पाही की मोहित मोबाईल बाजूला ठेऊन तिच्याशी बोलेन, पण सगळं व्यर्थ…

मोहित चं बाहेर काही चालू नाही ना? मोहित माझ्याशी आधीसारखा का वागत नाही? मोहित चं माझ्यावर प्रेम उरलं नाही का? असे नाना प्रश्न तिच्या मनात येऊन गेले.

वाढदिवसाच्या आदल्या रात्री प्रिया मोहित जवळ बसून होती, वाट बघत होती की मोहित उद्या कुठेतरी बाहेर नेण्याचं प्लॅन करेल. पण तो मोबाईल मधेच गुंग राहिला आणि तसाच झोपी गेला.

प्रिया ला वाईट वाटलं…

दुसऱ्या दिवशी मोहित घाईघाईत ऑफिस ला गेला, मोबाईल घरीच विसरला…”काहीतरी सरप्राईज असेल” अशी भोळी आशा मनाशी बाळगत प्रिया ने दिवस काढला… त्या दिवशी मोहित संध्याकाळी लवकर आलाच नाही, ऑफिस मधून त्याचा फोन आला की आज त्याला थोडा उशीर होईल यायला….प्रिया चा संताप आता अनावर झाला…काहीच कसं वाटत नाही या माणसाला?

तिने रागाच्या भरात आपली बॅग भरली, मोहित साठी चिट्ठी लिहिली आणि दाराकडे जायला निघणार इतक्यात मोहित चा घरी राहिलेला फोन वाजला…

हो नाही करत करत प्रिया ने बॅग खाली ठेवली आणि फोन उचलला…

“मिस्टर मोहित, घरी गेलात की नाही अजून?”

प्रिया थक्क होऊन सगळं ऐकत होती…किती सहजपणे आपण मोहित वर आरोप केले? त्याच्या मनाची घालमेल आणि मला खुश ठेवण्यासाठी त्याचा खटाटोप मला दिसलाच नाही…मी केवळ त्याच्या वागणुकीवर बोट ठेवत गेले, पण तो खूप पुढचा विचार करून स्वतःची ओढाताण करून घेत होता..

प्रिया च्या डोळ्यातून पाणी आलं. भरलेली बॅग तिने चटकन उचलली आणि आत नेऊन ठेवली…

मोहित घरी आला…हातात एक छान गिफ्ट होतं, आणि शरीर मात्र घामाने डबडबलेलं…डोळे थकलेले….मात्र प्रिया ला खुश करण्यासाठी चाललेला आटापिटा तिला साफ दिसत होता….

प्रियाने सगळं बाजूला ठेवलं आणि त्याच्या घट्ट मिठीत पुन्हा एकदा एकरूप झाली…
