संध्याकाळी आई स्वयंपाक बनवत असते आणि कोमल आईला मदत म्हणून कणिक मळून देत असते..आई अधूनमधून कोमलकडे बघे, तिच्या मनात नक्की काय चाललंय, तिला कोण आवडला असावा? असे विचार आईच्या मनात घोळत होते.

कोमल निःशब्द झाली, आईने मनातलं बरोबर ओळखलं होतं..
“हेबघ बाळा, मान्य आहे की मुलगी म्हणून तुला आई वडिलांची जबाबदारी स्वीकारायची आहे, पण उद्या परिस्थिती बदलेल, तुझ्या बहिणी मार्गी लागतील, घरात पैसा येईल…पण तुझं काय? एका निर्णयामुळे तू मागे राहून जाशील…
तिसऱ्या दिवशी वडील सारखा फोन चाळत होते, सतत फोन चार्जिंग ला लावत होते.
“बाबा बॅटरी फुल झालीये, किती वेळ चार्ज करता..”
“राहू दे गं चार्जिंग ला, ऐनवेळी उतरायला नको..”
बाबांचं चित्त ठिकाणावर नसतं, आज मुलाकडच्यांचा निरोप येणार असतो. कुणीतरी एकाने नकार द्यावा म्हणजे द्विधा मनस्थितीचा प्रश्नच येणार नाही असं बाबांना मनातून खूप वाटत होतं.

काही वेळाने अभिनवचा फोन….
“हॅलो काका, माझी अट तुम्हाला माहितीच आहे, तुम्हाला जर ती मान्य असेल तर मुलगी पसंत आहे मला..”
बाबांच्या पोटात आता तर गोळाच उठला.. जे व्हायला नको तेच झालं, दोन्हीकडून होकार आलेला…
“कोमल, सुनंदा… बाहेर या..”
दोघीजणी बाहेर आल्या,
“दोन्ही स्थळाकडून होकार आलाय..”
हे ऐकून दोघींजणी स्तब्ध होतात, इतके नकार ऐकलेत आणि आज अचानक दोन्ही होकार? हे पचवणं त्यांना जरा कठीण जात होतं.

“पाच वर्षे ही माहेरी राहणार नवऱ्याला सोडून, असं कधी असतं का?”
“अगं ती मोठी लोकं, त्यांचे मोठे विचार..आपण एक काम करू, कोमल माहेरी का आहे असं लोकांनी विचारायला नको म्हणून तिला मोठ्या शहरात पाठवू, मागे ती म्हणतच होती ना की तिला चांगला जॉब मिळतोय तिथे, पण तिच्या लग्नासाठी आपण तिला पाठवलं नव्हतं.. आता लग्न करून देऊ आणि ती राहील तिकडेच खोली करून, म्हणजे आपल्यालाही काळजी नाही..”
“इतके खटाटोप कशाला? माझं ऐका… सुरजला होकार कळवा..”
“एक मिनिट…माझं मत कुणी घेईल का?”

“ताईला सुरजला हो म्हणू दे देवा प्लिज प्लिज..” दोघी बहिणी लांबूनच कुजबुजत होत्या..
“बाबा, अभिनवला होकार कळवा..”
