 “हे बघ, असं तेल लावून गोल घडी करायची..मग थोडं पीठ टाकून ते चपटं करायचं आणि मग हळूहळू गोल पोळी लाटायची..”

सपना आपल्या सातवीत शिकत असलेल्या मुलीला पोळ्या शिकवत होती..इतक्यात दारावरची बेल वाजली, सपनाची मैत्रीण अनघा आपल्या मुलीला घेऊन आलेली..

“सपना, काय गं, अजून सातवीत आहे ती फक्त..तिला पोळ्या काय शिकवतेय?? अभ्यास करायला लाव ना त्यापेक्षा..”

“अगं अभ्यास झाला तिचा..रिविजन घेतली मी तिची, मग अभ्यास झाला की काही वेळ छोटा मोठा स्वैपाक शिकवत असते मी तिला..”

“आज एकविसाव्या शतकात जगतोय आपण, मला वाटतं अजूनही तुझ्या डोक्यात हेच विचार असतील ना? की मुलगी परक्याचं धन, सासरी स्वैपाक यायला हवा वगैरे.. बरोबर ना??”

“अनघा कुठल्या कुठे जातेयस तू..तसं काही नाही..”

“अगं सपना माझ्या मुलीकडे बघ, तीही सातवीला आहे, पण तिला हे असलं नाही शिकवत मी, तिला कराटे, स्विमिंग क्लासेस लावलेत, अभ्यासाचे आणखी वेगळे.. तिला इतकं शिकवू की घरबसल्या स्वैपाकाला 3 माणसं लावेन ती..चूल अन मूल चा जमाना नाही राहिला आता..आजकाल नवरा बायको सारखे शिकलेले असून बायको घरात बसते अन नवरा ऐटीत कामाला जातो..आता तर माणसांनाच घरी बसवायचं ही कामं करायला असं वाटतं..”

सपनाने अनघाला समजवायचा व्यर्थ प्रयत्न न करता विषय बदलला..

काळ लोटला, बऱ्याच गोष्टी बदलल्या..सपना तिच्या कुटुंबासह दुसरीकडे गेली, सपना आणि अनघाचा संपर्कही कमी झाला..फेसबुक वर थोडफार फक्त बोलणं होई तेवढंच..

अनघाची मुलगी सृष्टी, शिकून खूप पुढे गेली. अनघाने जसं तिच्यासाठी ठरवलं अगदी तसंच होत गेलं..सृष्टी सर्व गोष्टीत चॅम्पियन…कामात हुशार, त्यामुळे पटापट बढती होत गेली. एक दिवशी अचानक तिला बॉस कडून खुशखबर मिळाली की तिला अमेरिकेच्या मुख्य कार्यालयात पोस्ट दिली गेली आहे..अनघा अन सृष्टी साठी तर आकाश ठेंगणं झालं..अनघाला इथेच राहणं भाग होतं, सृष्टीचीही एकटीने जायची तयारी होती…

सर्व तयारीनिशी सृष्टी अमेरिकेला पोहोचली, तिथलं वातावरण बघून सृष्टीला अगदी स्वर्गात आल्यासारखा भास होई, तिची सगळी स्वप्न पूर्ण झाली होती..

तिथे कंपनी तर्फे एक फ्लॅट तिला मिळाला होता, आलिशान फ्लॅट मध्ये ती एकटीच..अमेरिकेची नोकरी सुरू झाली, तिथेही तिने आपला ठसा उमटवला..सगळीकडे वाहवा झाली..

पण फ्लॅटवर तिला काही कुक मिळेना, रोज पिझ्झा, बर्गर खाऊन ती कंटाळली तर होतीच, वर पोटाचा त्रास सुरू झाला..तिला काहीच बनवता येत नव्हतं.. कशीबशी maggi सारखे पॅकेज्ड पदार्थ शिजवून दिवस काढू लागली. भारतीय कुक तिथे मिळेना, जे होते त्यांचा पगार अवाच्या सवा…

एक दिवस मिटिंग मध्ये ती अचानक चक्कर येऊन पडली, तिथल्या एका सिनियर मॅनेजर स्त्रीने तिला आपल्या घरी नेलं. डोळे उघडले तेव्हा सृष्टीला समजत नव्हतं ती इथे कशी..

तेव्हढ्यात ती मॅनेजर मुलगी तिथे आली, मराठीत बोलू लागली..तिने सृष्टीला सगळं सांगितलं,

“मॅडम तुम्ही होत्या म्हणून बरं झालं, इथे एक तर माझं कुणीही नाही… तुम्हाला पहिल्यांदा बघितलं मी.”

“मी तुझ्याच कंपनीत बोर्ड डायरेक्टर मधली आहे..माझा वावर हेड ऑफिसमध्ये जास्त असतो..”

“म्हणजे मॅडम तुम्ही इतक्या वरच्या पदावर आहात, तरी माझ्यासाठी इतकं केलंत..”

“बरं ते जाऊदे, मला सांग चक्कर कशी आली तुला??”

“खाण्याचे हाल..”

ती मुलगी हसते, आत जाऊन भाजी, पोळी वरण, भाताचं ताट घेऊन येते..

“मॅडम, कोणता कुक आहे तुमच्याकडे?? अगदी घरच्यासारखं जेवण आहे हे. घरची आठवण झाली मला बघा.”

“कुक नाही, मीच बनवलं आहे सगळं..”

“तुम्ही? मॅडम तुम्ही इतके पैसे कमवता..तरीही स्वैपाकघरात जाऊन ही कामं करतात??”

“ही कामं म्हणजे? स्वतःसाठी पोषक अन्न स्वतः बनवता येणं ही बेसिक गरज आहे…’ही कामं’ म्हणजे खालच्या दर्जाची नाहीत गं..”

“हो तरीपण…”

“माझ्या आईने मला लहानपणीच शिकवलं होतं, की स्वतःपुरता तरी अन्न बनवता आलं पाहिजे, माणूस कितीही मोठा झाला अन कितीही खर्च करू शकत असला तरी विकत आणलेल्या गोष्टींपासून त्याला खण्याजोगतं बनवताच आलं नाही तर काय उपयोग?? म्हणूनच, माझ्या आईने मला अन माझ्या भावालाही सातवीत असल्यापासून सगळा स्वयंपाक शिकवला..आज भाऊ कॅनडा ला आहे, पण तरी स्वतः सगळं बनवून खाऊ शकतो…बाहेरचं खाऊन किंवा दुसऱ्यावर अवलंबून राहून स्वतःच्या आरोग्याशी का म्हणून खेळ करायचा??”

“तुमच्या आईचं नाव काय??”

“सपना कर्वे..का??”

सृष्टीला बालपणीचा प्रसंग आठवला, आज तिला समजलं…”सपना मावशी बरोबर बोलत होत्या…माझ्या आईने उगाच फेमिनीजम च्या ढालीखाली आम्हाला परावलंबी बनवलं.. “
