छोट्या जाउबाई आज जरा घुश्यातच होत्या. घरातल्या इतक्या सर्वांचं आवरायला आज तिला जीवावरच आलेलं. काम करताना हा राग कुणावर काढावा म्हणून नवऱ्याला बोलावून घेऊन त्याच्यावरच सगळा घुस्सा ती उतरवत होती.

“एकाच वेळेत जेवत जा ना सगळे, कुणी 8 ला जेवतं, कुणी 9 ला..दिवसभर नुसती भांडी जमा करत राहायची का मी?”

नवऱ्याला लक्षात आलं की बायकोची आज चांगलीच चिडचिड झालेली आहे. तो बिचारा गपगुमान ऐकत असतो.

“आणि काय हो?लग्न आपलं नवीन झालंय की वहिणींचं? जेव्हा पाहावं तेव्हा फिरायला, मुव्ही पाहायला जात असतात….आपण कधी जाणार?”

“जाऊ ना…तू सांग कधी जायचं..”

“उद्याच..”

“उद्या नको गं, उद्या वहिनी माहेरी जाणार आहेत..आणि आई सुद्धा तिच्या भावाकडे जाईल… आम्हाचे खायचे हाल नको करू की..”

“झालं…हा इकडे जातो, तो तिकडे जातो…अन मी आहेच इथे राबायला…काय गरज होती सासूबाईंना तिकडे जायची?”

“अगं मामा ला पापड फार आवडतात आईच्या हातचे, आणि मामींना आता झेपत नाही एकटीला…म्हणून गेली आहे ती…”

“लोकांचाच विचार करा..इथे मी किती राबतेय ते नाही दिसणार… बरोबर ना?”

नवऱ्याला आता काय बोलावं कळत नव्हतं…दुसरा कुणी असता तर घरच्यांबद्दल असे शब्द ऐकून घेतले नसते…पण तो एका कुठल्यातरी वचनात बांधील होता म्हणून गप राहिला…

रात्री उशिरा मोठ्या जाउबाई आणि भाऊजी घरी आले…त्यांचा मुलगा मोहित आल्या आल्या खोलीत जाऊन झोपला… त्याला सवय नव्हती ना रात्री जागरणाची..

“काय गं? झोपली नाहीस?”

“कशी झोपणार… चावी विसरला होता तुम्ही..आणि सासुबाई पण नाही घरी.”

“अरे देवा..अगं सॉरी हा आमच्या मुळे तुझी झोप झाली नाही..”

त्यावर उत्तर न देताच छोट्या जाउबाई खोलीत गेल्या..

“मला तुम्हाला काहीतरी सांगायचं आहे..”

“बोल..”

” मला वेगळं राहायचं आहे…नाही सहन होत आता मला हे सगळं… मी एकटी सगळं करते पण माझ्या वाट्याला काय येतं? मला माझा संसार हवाय…स्वतःचा..”

नवऱ्याने तिच्या बोलण्याकडे दुर्लक्ष केले तशी ती चिडली..

“मी काय सांगतेय समजतंय का?”

“अगं मी तेच बघत होतो एखादं चांगलं घर मिळतं का..हे बघ, हे 2 Bhk आहे…कसं वाटतं बघ..”

नवऱ्याने इतक्या झटपट कामाला सुरुवात केली हे पाहून तिला नवल वाटलं..

“सगळे फोटो सेव करून ठेवा, उद्या बघते मी…फार झोप येतेय आता..”

दुसऱ्या दिवशी सासूबाई घरी येतात…छोट्या जाउबाई गपचूप त्यांचं बोलणं ऐकतात…मोठ्या जाउबाईला त्या विचारतात..

“काय गं तू आईकडे जाणार होतीस ना?”

“हो..अहो पण मी गेले तर छोट्या जाउबाईंवर कामाचा ताण पडेल…आणि त्यांच्यासाठी पिक्चर चे तिकिटे आणली आहेत…मी घरातलं आवरून घेईल म्हणजे त्या दोघांना आरामशीर जाता येईल…”

“अगं मग मी आहे की…तू कशाला टेन्शन घेते..”

“नको आई…परत तुमचे गुडघे दुखतील… मी आहे ना? नका काळजी करू..”

छोटी जाउबाई त्यांचं बोलणं ऐकून जरा ओशाळली…

इतक्यात सासूबाई तिला हाक देतात तशी ती समोर येते..

सासूबाई तिचा हात धरून तिला बाजूला घेऊन जातात…आणि पदराखाली लपवलेली खिशी तिच्या समोर पुढे करतात..

“घे सुनबाई…अगदी थोडं पीठ आहे…तुला खूप आवडतं ना नागलीचं पीठ? मी वाहिनीकडून भांडून घेऊन आले…थोडंच आहे, सर्वांना वाटलं तर पुरणार नाही…गपचूप खाऊन घे…”

छोटी सून अगदी ओशाळली, काल आपण यांच्याबद्दल काय काय बोलत होतो..पण…

“हे घे, आजच्या फिल्म ची तिकिटे.. आज तुम्ही दोघे जा…स्वयंपाक पाणी मी पाहून घेईल..”

मोठ्या जाउबाई हातात तिकिटे ठेवतात आणि निघून जातात..

सासूबाई तिच्याकडे पाहून म्हणतात..

“खूप दिवसांनी हिला अशी खुश बघतेय मी…लग्नानंतर मूल होत नव्हतं म्हणून कायम दुःखी असायची, खूप उपचार केले, खूप दूरवर फिरले…या सगळ्यातच त्यांचा लग्नानंतरचा वेळ गेला…एकेमकांसोबत चांगला असा वेळच घालवता आला नाही यांना ..देवाची कृपा म्हणून उशिरा का असेना पण मूल झालं…आता कुठे यांचा संसार फुलू लागलाय..”

छोटीला आता समजलं, की मोठ्या जाउबाई आणि भाऊजी का सतत एकत्र वेळ घालवताय ते…

रात्रीच्या वेळी..

“अगं ए…गे बघ, सगळे फोटो सेव केले आहेत..बघ तुला कुठला फ्लॅट आवडतो ते..मग पुढची प्रोसेस करू..”

“वेड बीड लागलंय का तुम्हाला? हे भरलं गोकुळ सोडून कुठे वेगळं राहायची गोष्ट करताय?”

एवढं म्हणत ती तिथून निघून गेली…इकडे तिच्या नवऱ्याला हसू आवरेना…तो म्हणाला..

“माझ्या भावाबद्दल आणि आईबद्दल बोललीस तेव्हाच मी चिडलो होतो, पण आईला दिलेलं एक वचन मी मोडू शकलो नाही…तिने वचन घेतलं होतं की काहीही झालं तरी आपल्या बायकोवर चिडायचं नाही, रागवायचं नाही…तिला समजून घ्यायचं, ती आपली माणसं सोडून आपल्या भरोष्यावर आलेली असते..तिला दुखवायचं नाही…आणि कमाल बघ, तुझ्या त्याच वचनामुळे आपल्या घराबद्दल तिला मायेची जाणीव झाली…”
