आईला कळेना, सुरभिने अचानक गाडी का थांबवायला लावली असेल? गाडी थांबली तसं सुरभिने आईला खाली उतरायला सांगितलं..

“सुरभी? अगं काय झालं अचानक?”

“तुम्ही जा.. आम्ही थांबतोय इथेच..” सुरभिने ड्रायव्हर ला सांगून पाठवून दिलं.

“गाडीला का परत पाठवलंस? काय चालुये सुरभी तुझ्या मनात?”

“आई, आपण अजून काही दिवस इथे थांबुया का?”

“का? कशासाठी?”

“इथूनच मला संधी मिळेल, मला स्वतःला सिद्ध करण्याची.”

“इथे? या खेडेगावात?”

“होय..”

“ती कशी?”

“आई मी ज्युनियर टॅलेंट मॅनेजर आहे, चॅनेलसाठी कलाकार आणि टॅलेंटेड लोकांना शोधण्याचं माझं काम आहे.. आणि जे टॅलेंट मला इतकं शोधूनही मिळत नव्हतं ते आज इथे, या खेडेगावात असलेल्या कलाकारांमध्ये मला दिसलं, जन्मजात मिळालेल्या त्यांच्या या टॅलेंट ला मला मोठ्या शहरात न्यायचं आहे, हे टॅलेंट गावा पुरता मर्यादित न राहता त्याला मोठं व्यासपीठ उपलब्ध करून द्यायचं आहे..”

“अगं पण तुझं तिकडे सगळं नीट चालू असताना..”

“नाही आई, काहीही ठीक नाहीये..चॅनेल बंद पडायच्या मार्गावर आहे आणि माझी नोकरीही धोक्यात आहे..

“कधी समजलं तुला?”

“आत्ता फोन आलेला..”

“हे बघ, तुझा विचार चांगला आहे..पण प्रत्यक्षात हे सगळं घडवून आणणं तितकंच कठीण..ही लोकं टॅलेंटेड आहेत, मान्य..पण त्यांनाच त्याची जाणीव नाहीये, या त्यांच्या कलेला मोठं व्यासपीठ मिळेल, जगासमोर ते करू शकतील इतका आत्मविश्वास त्यांच्यात अजून नाहीये..आपण भलं आपला गाव भला अश्या मर्यादित चौकटीत बसणारी ही माणसं. मला नाही वाटत ही लोकं तुला साथ देतील..”

“असं असेल तर खऱ्या अर्थाने मला माझा जॉब समजेल..माझे सर म्हणतात, तुम्ही टॅलेंट मॅनेजर नाही..किंगमेकर आहात..मोठमोठ्या स्टार्स ला सुदधा कुणीतरी शोधून पुढे आणलेलं असतं, कुणीतरी संधी दिलेली असते..आणि तेच असतात किंगमेकर..”

“पण नाव फक्त किंगचंच होतं. किंगमेकर पडद्याआड राहतो..”

“सगळीच जर पडद्यावर आली तर स्टेजला अर्थच नाही राहणार…सचिन ओळखण्यासाठी आचरेकर येतात, अर्जुनाला घडवण्यासाठी द्रोणाचार्य येतात..ही लोकं स्वतः प्रकाशझोतात येत नाहीत, दुसऱ्यांचा मार्ग उजळवण्यासाठीच यांचा जन्म झालेला असतो, आणि कदाचित माझाही जन्म त्याचसाठी..”

सुरभीच्या बोलण्यात आत्मविश्वास होता. तिच्या डोळ्यात वेगळंच तेज दिसत होतं. आईला सुरभी बद्दल पूर्ण खात्री होती, आई तयार झाली.

दोघीही पुन्हा गावाकडे वळल्या, जातांना त्या आजीचं घर लागलं..

“आई मला त्या आजीला भेटायचं आहे..”

“ओळख नाही माझी त्यांच्याशी..”

“तू चल..ओळख करूया आपण..”

दोघीही घरात जातात, त्या आजी आणि त्यांच्या अजून 2 सोबतीण मिळून जात्यावर पीठ दळत असतात.

या दोघींना पाहून त्या तिघी एकदम थांबतात, प्रश्नार्थक नजरेने बघतात…

“आजी..लांबून आलोय. पाणी मिळेल का?”

शहरातील गोरी गोमटी मंडळी आपल्या घरात पाणी मागायला आली बघताच आजीला आनंद झाला.

“सरे…अगं पाणी आन..”

आजीबाई सुनेला हाक देत या दोघींना बसायला लावतात. आजी सुरभीला नीट न्याहाळत असते, अचानक म्हणते..

“पोरी..दिसायला गोड हाय..जरा सांभाळून रहात जाय बरं.. पोरं मागं मागं येत्यात..”

सुरभी आणि तिच्या आईला हसायला आलं..

“हसू नका पोरींनो..मी तुझ्या वयाची व्हते तवा असाच एक पोरगा माझ्या वाटेमध्ये आला. ”

“अरे बापरे..मग काय केलं बाई तू?” आजीच्या दोन्ही मैत्रिणी कुतूहलाने विचारू लागल्या..

“मी काय घाबरते व्हय..मी बी थांबुन घेतलं अन त्याला ईचारलं.. काय रे बाबा, काहून माझ्या मांगं येतोय?”

“तो काय म्हणाला मग?”

“तो म्हणाला तू लय भारी दिसती म्हणं..”

“मग तू काय म्हणलीस?”

“त्याला म्हणलं, तुला आवडती का मी? लगीन करशील का माझ्यासंग? बोल..लगीन करू, आपल्याला पोरं व्हतील. त्यांची नावं दिगंबर आणि सीताबाई ठिऊ.. चल तुझ्या घरी, बोलणी करायला येती म्या..एवढं म्हणलं अन तो घाबरला, पोरगी लय आगाऊ दिसती असं त्याला वाटलं..तो माघारी वळला..त्याकाळी पोरं बी आई बापाला लय घाबरत..”

“आरेवा…चांगलं पिटाळलं त्याला..”

“अजून गोष्ट बाकी हाय…तो वळला तसं मी त्याच्या मांगं गेले.. त्याला थांब थांब म्हणत व्हते..तो घाबरला..पळायला लागला..म्या बी त्याचा मागं मागं पळत सुटले.. मग दमून एका ठिकाणी तो थांबला अन म्हणला.. तायडे मला माफ कर अन माझा पाठलाग सोड..त्याला म्हणलं, आता कसं वाटतं? पोरीच्या मागं फिरताना त्या पोरीला किती भ्या वाटत असंल? मी व्हते म्हणून…यापुढे पोरीच्या मागं मागं केलंस तर तू हाय, मी हाय अन तुझे आई बाप हाय..”

“आरं देवा…म्हणजे उलटं पोरालाच घाबरवलं की तू..”

“मंग…पोरींनी निसतं घाबरायचं नाय, धडा शिकवायचा पोरांना..”

ऐकणारे सर्वजण हसतही होते आणि त्यांना कौतुकही वाटत होतं. आजीची सांगण्याची पद्धत अशी होती की ऐकणारा तन्मयतेने

ऐकत असे. सुरभीला हेच हवं होतं.. स्टँडप कॉमेडी साठी.

दोघीही निरोप घेऊज गावच्या घरी जायला निघाल्या. घरी जाताच सर्वांना सुरभिने आपला मनसुबा सांगितला. सर्वांना कौतुक वाटलं, पण तिचा मामेभाऊ जरा काळजीत वाटला.

“सुरभी तुझा निर्णय बरोबर जरी असला तरी या  लोकांना तयार करणं कठीण काम आहे..”

“हो त्याचा अंदाज आहे मला..पण प्रयत्न तर करून पाहू..”

त्या आजी, लग्नातले नाना, नाचणारी मंडळी, गाडीत भजन गाणारी ती मंडळी… या सर्वांना एकदा भेटून त्यांच्याशी बोलायचं सुरभिने ठरवलं..
