राधा काकू नेहमीप्रमाणे सुनेला घेऊन दवाखान्यात गेल्या, दर महिन्याला तिची तपासणी असायची. एका असाध्य आजाराने जखडलेल्या शर्मिला ला त्या आजाराने पूर्ण परावलंबी बनवलं होतं.
दवाखान्यात असलेल्या एका नर्स ला शर्मिला ची देखरेख करायला सांगितलेली…राधा काकू शर्मिला च्या सासुबाई आहेत हे ऐकूनच तिला धाक बसला..कारण आई असती तर गोष्ट वेगळी होती, पण सासूबाई शर्मिला चं सगळं आवरणार? अगदी सगळं?…नर्स ला सांगताना सुद्धा संकोच वाटायचा… असं वाटायचं की पुढच्या खेपेला या पुन्हा दिसणार नाही..पण त्याचा येण्यात काहीही खंड पडला नाही…
यावेळी सुदधा डॉकटर ने तपासणी केली आणि नर्स ला सूचना द्यायला सांगितल्या…शर्मिला मध्ये बऱ्यापैकी सुधारणा होत होती…यावेळी नर्स ला राहवलं नाही..तिने राधा काकूंना अखेर म्हटलंच…
“मानलं खरंच तुम्हाला…लोकं स्वतःच्या मुलाचं करताना वैतागून जातात, तुम्ही मात्र स्वतःच्या सुनेचं इतकं करताय…कौतुक वाटतं खरंच तुमचं…”
“त्यात काही विशेष नाही मुली…माझा मुलगा लहान होता, त्यावर आमचा इतका जीव की त्याच्या प्रत्येक वस्तू आम्ही आजवर सांभाळून ठेवल्या आहेत…अगदी कपड्यांपासून ते खेळणी पर्यंत… का? कारण त्या वस्तू त्याला प्रिय आहेत..आणि तो आम्हाला…मग साहजिक आम्ही त्या वस्तूंनाही जपायचो…शर्मिला तर त्याची जिती जगती प्रिय व्यक्ती…त्याची बायको…तिच्यावर जीवापाड प्रेम करतो…पण कामानिमित्त बाहेरगावी असतो…अश्या वेळी आम्ही त्याची प्रिय वस्तू नको जपायला??”
राधा काकूंचे हे विचार ऐकुन नर्स ला गलबलून आलं..
काही वर्षांनी शर्मिला आणि राधा काकू नर्स ताईला भेटायला आल्या, अगदी सहजच…शर्मिला च्या कडेवर 1 वर्षांचं बाळ होतं.. आणि ती अगदी ठणठणीत बरी झाली होती…
