स्त्री जातीने सर्वांच्या जेवणानंतर जेवायला बसावं एवढंच प्रेरणा ला माहीत होतं, आलेल्या महिला अधिकाऱ्यांना पुरुषांप्रमाणे वागणूक मिळालेली प्रेरणाने पाहिली होती..तिच्या डोक्यात कमळी चा विचार येऊन गेला…अशिक्षित असली तरी समाजात कुणाला किंमत आहे हे ती ओळखून होती…धुनी भांडी करून का होईना पण स्वाभिमानाने पैसे कमवत होती…

प्रेरणा ने बहिणीशी भरपूर गप्पा मारल्या..अखेर दोघांनी त्यांचा निरोप घेतला…जातांना प्रेरणा ने आदित्यला त्या शहरातील सुप्रसिद्ध दुकानातून एक साडी घेण्याचा विचार बोलून दाखवला..

“अहो, इथे जातानाच एक दुकान लागतं, छान साड्या मिळतात म्हणे तिथे..एक घेऊया का मला..”

“मागच्याच महिन्यात तर घेतली होतीस…”

“हो..पण इथली साडी प्रसिद्ध आहे खूप, परत परत येणं नाही होणार..”

“तसं काही नसतं… सगळ्या दुकानात एकसारख्या साड्या असतात…तशीच साडी आपल्याकडच्या दुकानात दाखवतो तुला..”

अखेर आदित्य ने नकार दिला म्हटल्यावर प्रेरणाला गप राहण्याशिवाय पर्यायच नव्हता..कारण काही घ्यायचं झालं म्हणजे आदित्य कडेच तगादा लावावा लागे…तिच्या स्वतःकडे इतके पैसे नव्हते की गाडी थांबवून स्वतः काही विकत आणू शकेल…

तिला परत कमळी च्या त्या गुलाबी साडीचं कौतुक वाटलं, तिच्या चेहऱ्यावर असलेलं समाधान आज प्रेरणाला जाणवू लागलं…स्वतः कष्ट करून मिळालेल्या पैशांनी आवडती वस्तू स्वतः विकत घेण्यात काय आनंद असतो हे तिला समजू लागलं…

घरी येताच दारात सोनाली उभी, दाराला कुलूप पाहून ती तिथेच वाट बघत उभी होती..

प्रेरणा तिला विचारते, अचानक तिच्या लक्षात येतं की माने काकूंची ही सून, घरात भांडण करून निघून गेलेली कमळीने तिला सांगितलं होतं…

सोनाली म्हणाली,

“ताई आमच्या घरचे बाहेर गेलेत, मला माझं काही समान न्यायचं होतं… चावी तुमच्याकडे आहे असं म्हटले ते..”

“मी देते चावी, पण आधी आत तर ये…”

“नको, तुम्ही आताच आलाय दमून..”

“काही नाही, चल ये..”

प्रेरणाने तिला बोलावलं, चहा पाजला…तिच्या जखमेवर मीठ नको म्हणून तिचा घर सोडायचा मुद्दा ती जाणूनबुजून बोलली नाही…पण सोनाली स्वतःहून म्हणाली..

“ताई तुम्हाला समजलच असेल, मी घर सोडलं ते..”

“हो..”

“का सोडलं विचारणार नाही??”

“खरं तर ती तुझी वैयक्तिक बाब आहे, पण तुला मन मोकळं करायचं असेल तर सांगू शकतेस..”

“ताई…तुम्हाला तर माहीत आहे..शौनक एका अधिकारी पदावर आहेत…त्यांना कामाचा प्रचंड लोड असतो..”

“होय…”

“खरं तर त्यांचं पद बघूनच माझ्या काकांनी मला लग्नाला तयार केलं…पण त्यांनंतर काय होईल याची कल्पनाही मला नव्हती..”

“का? असं काय झालं??”

“शौनक रोज घरी उशिरा येत…दारू पिऊन.. कामाचा लोड असतो म्हणून टेन्शन दूर करायला घेतो असं म्हणत… बायको म्हणून कित्येक दिवस माझ्याशी कामाशिवाय बोलतही नसत…मी फक्त घरात काम करणारी मोलकरीण बनून राहिले… तेही ठीक आहे, पण बायको म्हणून काहीही सुख देत नव्हते…आणि घरात ही गोष्ट सांगणार तरी कुणाला?? मी त्यांच्या वागण्याबद्दल घरी सांगितलं तर मलाच बोलणी बसली..की नवरा काम करेल की बायकोच्या मागे फिरेल..माझंही शिक्षण झालं होतं, मग मी बाकीच्या गोष्टी दुर्लक्ष करून माझ्या करियर कडे लक्ष देऊ लागले.तेव्हा मला कमी पगार म्हणून माझी थट्टा करायचे, नेहमी माझा मुलगा कसा वरचढ हेच दाखवलं जायचं…आणि नवऱ्याने तर एकदा ऑफिस मध्ये कुना माणसाशी माझे संबंध आहेत असा आरोप लावून मला खूप मारलं…कशी राहू मी घरात तुम्हीच सांगा..”

“बापरे, फार वाईट घडलं हो तुझ्यासोबत…. पण आता जाणार कुठे, तुला माहेरही नाही..”

“मला माहित होतं की एक दिवस अशी वेळ येणार म्हणून, म्हणून मीच माझ्या कमाईतून काही पैसे बाजूला काढत होती.. आता वर्षभर एखाद्या भाड्याच्या घरात राहून स्वतःचं पोट भरेल इतकी कमाई आहे माझ्याकडे…या वर्षभरात पुढच्या आयुष्याची सगळी सोय करून ठेवेन..”

“मला कौतुक आहे तुझं…स्वाभिमानाने जगण्याचं धाडस केलंस तू…”

सोनाली गेली…प्रेरणाच्या डोक्यात तिची बहीण, कमळी, सोनली, त्या अधिकारी स्त्रिया सर्वजण घुमू लागल्या…सर्वजणी एकच सांगत होत्या…

“जोवर तू स्वतःला सिद्ध करत नाहीस, तोवर तुझं काहीही अस्तित्व नाही…”

प्रेरणाला अखेर या सर्व कहाण्या पाहून प्रेरणा मिळाली आणि तिने ठरवलं..मी mpsc चा अभ्यास करणार….

“आदित्य…मी mpsc द्यायचं म्हणतेय..”

“अरेवा…छानच की…”

आदित्यची सकारात्मक प्रतिक्रिया पाहून तिला आनंद झाला…

“पण मग वीर ला सांभाळून कसा अभ्यास करशील??”

आदित्य ने लगेच पुढची अडचण बोलून दाखवली…

“त्याला सांभाळून करेल..आणि तुम्ही घरी आल्यावर, सुट्टीच्या दिवशी वीर ला सांभाळालच की…”

“अं? हो हो..”

आदित्य काहीश्या नाराजीच्या सुरात म्हणाला, प्रेरणाच्या या निर्णयात आपल्यालाही काहीतरी योगदान द्यावं लागणार आहे याची चिंता त्याला आता लागून गेली…
