आदित्यने ते लेटर प्रेरणाकडे दिलं आणि प्रेरणाने ते घाबरतच उघडलं, त्यात लिहिलेलं वाचताच प्रेरणाचे हावभाव एकदम बदलून जातात. तिचा जीव भांड्यात पडतो. आदित्यचं प्रमोशन झालेले असते आणि तेच लेटर मध्ये असतं. ती सर्वात आधी देवापुढे साखर ठेवते.

“आदित्य, किती घाबरले होते मी..पण बरं झालं, चांगली बातमी मिळाली, तुझं प्रमोशन झालं, कित्येक दिवस याचीच वाट पहात होतास तू..”

“खरंच गं, मलाही आधी भीती वाटलेली की कसलं लेटर आहे हे..पण जेव्हा उघडलं तेव्हा खूप खुश झालो..नाहीतर इतके दिवस मी इतक्या टेन्शन मध्ये होतो ना, मला वाटलेलं मला काढून टाकताय की काय..पण तू मला समजावलं, आणि तू म्हणालीस तेच खरं झालं..”

“कौतुक ऐकून बरं वाटलं हो..बरं आज काय बनवू जेवायला विशेष?”

“आज पार्टी तर झालीच पाहिजे, बाहेर जायचं का?”

“नको, घरीच छान बनवते काहीतरी..सांगा काय बनवू?”

“मस्त पुलाव, सूप आणि गुलाबजाम बनवते..हो पण मला त्यासाठी लागणारं सामान आणून द्या बरं का..”

“हे काय आत्ता फ्रेश होतो आणि खाली जाऊन घेऊन येतो..”

आदित्य हातपाय धुवायला जातो. वीर त्याच्या खेळण्या खेळत होता. प्रेरणा त्याच्या जवळच बसलेली. पुलाव साठी तिने कांदा, बटाटा, कोबी, फ्लॉवर चिरायला घेतलं. आदित्य बाहेर आला आणि पिशवी घेऊन खाली जायला निघाला. 

काही वेळातच जिन्यातून घोळक्याचा आवाज येऊ लागला..प्रेरणाने हातातलं काम बाजूला ठेवलं, सुरी किचनमध्ये नेउन ठेवली आणि दार उघडून पाहू लागली. काही माणसं आदित्यला पकडून घरात आणत होती. प्रेरणा खूप घाबरली, 

“काय झालं? कुठे पडलात?”

“काही नाही वहिनी, जिन्यावरून पाय निसटला..एक पाय आणि एक हात दुखावला गेलाय..मी डॉक्टरांना बोलावतो..”

आदित्यला बिल्डिंग मधील काही माणसं सोफ्यावर बसवतात. प्रेरणा पटकन आदित्यला पाणी आणून देते. डॉक्टर येतात. ते हात आणि पायाचा एक्स रे काढायला सांगतात आणि काही गोळ्या देतात. 

माणसं निघून जातात, प्रेरणा रडू लागते.

“काय हो हे काय झालं..कुठे बुद्धी झाली आणि तुम्हाला खाली पाठवलं..”

“अगं तुझी काय चूक आहे यात? मनावर घेऊ नकोस..काहीही झालेलं नाही मला..”

दुसऱ्या दिवशी विजय घरी येतो आणि प्रेरणा व विजय दोघे मिळून आदित्यला एक्स रे साठी नेतात. रिपोर्ट येतो, तो घेऊन परत डॉक्टर कडे जातात. उजव्या हाताचं आणि डाव्या पायाचं हाड मोडलेलं असतं. डॉक्टर फ्रॅक्चर झाल्याचं सांगतात आणि लगेच हाताला आणि पायाला बांधून देतात. 

आदित्यला पंधरा दिवस सक्तीचा आराम सांगितलेला असतो. ऑफिसमध्ये आदित्य फोन करून तसं कळवतो. आता मात्र प्रेरणाची चांगलीच धांदल उडते. अभ्यास तर बाजूलाच, पण आदित्यला सगळं जागेवर देणं, घरातली कामं करणं आणि वीरला सांभाळणं यात तिचा दिवस कसा जाई तिलाच कळत नसे. 

या पंधरा दिवसात आदित्य पहिल्यांदा पूर्ण दिवस घरी होता. एरवी सुट्टी असली तरी काहीना काही कारण काढत फिरायला जात असे. मात्र यावेळी त्याला घरात बसून राहणं भाग होतं. दिवसभर नुसता आराम झाल्यामुळे आदित्यला सकाळी लवकर जाग येई. मोबाईल मध्ये टाईमपास करून करून सुद्धा त्याला आता कंटाळा आलेला. वीर सोबत खेळताही येईना. तो फक्त इकडे तिकडे बघत असायचा. 

सकाळी प्रेरणा लवकर उठून अंघोळ करून दारात रांगोळी काढायला जाई, मग घरात येऊन देवपूजा करे..ते झालं की लागलीच नाश्त्याच्या तयारीला लागे, अधून मधून आदित्यकडे येऊन त्याला काही हवं का विचारून जाई. नाश्ता होईपर्यंत वीर उठून जाई आणि तो उठला की खरी कसरत होई. सकाळी उठल्यावर तो आईला सोडत नसे. मग प्रेरणा त्याला दूध पाजून काहीतरी खेळायला भाग पाडे. वीर फक्त दहा मिनिटं खेळण्यात रमायचा पण पुन्हा आई आई करायचा. या दहा मिनिटात प्रेरणा नाश्त्याला फोडणी देई आणि परत वीर रडायला लागला की त्याच्याजवळ येई. मग वीर चं डायपर बदलून त्याचे हात पाय ओल्या कपड्याने पुसून देई. हे करत असतानाच गॅस वरील फोडणी जळणार नाही याकडेही लक्ष द्यावं लागत होतं. वीर ला दर दहा मिनिटांनी काहीतरी नादी लावून स्वयंपाकघरात पळायचं हे तिला सवयीचं झालं होतं.

नाश्ता बनवला की मग आदित्यला तो भरवावा लागे, कारण उजवा हात फ्रॅक्चर होता त्यामुळे खायला जड जाई. आता वीर सोबत प्रेरणा आदित्यलाही भरवत असे. दोघांचही खाऊन झालं की वीरची अंघोळ घालून ती त्याला छान तयार करे, मग किचन मधेच त्याला किचनमधली भांडी, वाट्या, ताटली खेळायला देऊन ती स्वयंपाकाच्या तयारीला लागे. स्वयंपाक सुद्धा असा सलग करता आलाच नाही, मध्ये दहा वेळा वीर साठी बाजूला व्हावं लागायचं. कसंबसं सगळं आवरलं की कमळी येऊन झाडू, फरशी आणि भांडी करून जाई. तिची फार मोठी मदत होत होती प्रेरणा ला.

आदित्य आणि वीर मागे दिवस जाऊ लागला. या काळात अभ्यास पूर्णपणे बंद होता याची खंतही तिला होतीच. पण तिने यावरही एक शक्कल काढली, रात्री एक तास एखादा धडा वाचून घ्यायची आणि तो रेकॉर्ड करून ठेवायची. काम करतांना हेडफोन लावून सतत ऐकत बसायची. म्हणजे एकीकडे कामही होत आणि दुसरीकडे अभ्यास. परिस्थिती कशीही असली तरी त्यावर मार्ग काढण्याची क्षमता स्त्री मध्ये उपजतच असते.

आदित्यला आता बरं वाटू लागलेलं. हळुहळु तो रिकव्हर होत होता. बऱ्यापैकी स्वतःची कामं स्वतः करत होता. हळुहळु वीर ला तो खेळवू लागला. प्रेरणाला बऱ्यापैकी वेळ मिळू लागला. यातच प्रेरणाने अभ्यासाचा जोर वाढवला. एक दिवस आदित्यला विजयचा फोन आला, तब्येतीच्या चौकशीसाठी..तेव्हा प्रेरणाही त्याच्यासोबत बोलली..

“भाऊजी कसे आहात, अभ्यास बरा चाललाय ना?”

“हो वहिनी, मागच्याच आठवड्यात फॉर्म भरला…तुम्हीही भरला असेल..”

प्रेरणाला धस्स झालं…फॉर्म भरण्याची तारीख आली? काय मुदत आहे? कधीपर्यंत भरायचे आहेत??

प्रेरणा एका कोपऱ्यात बसून रडत होती. एक साधी गोष्ट करायला  हातात घेतली, हजारो अडचणी आल्या तरी मात केली, पण शेवटी हरले मी माझ्या स्त्रीपणावर..नवऱ्याचं आणि मुलाचं करता करता सगळं विसरून गेले..

प्रेरणा खूप निराश होती. दुपारी वीर ला झोपवून तिने पुस्तक हातात घेतलं सवयीप्रमाणे.. पण फॉर्म चं आठवल्याबरोबर तिला पुन्हा रडू कोसळलं. तीही वीर शेजारी पडून राहीली. उशी बाजूला करताच तिथे एक रिसीट तिला दिसली. तिने ते पाहिलं आणि तिच्या डोळ्यात आनंदाश्रू आले. फॉर्म भरलेल्याची आणि ओळ्खपत्राची प्रिंट होती तिथे…तिने हळूच आदित्यकडे पाहिलं..आदित्य तिच्याकडे बघून हसत होता..
