आठवणी

 दिवसभर ऑफिसमध्ये काम करून थकून ती तिच्या रूमवर गेली. तसं पाहिलं तर ऑफिसमधून तिला रूमवर येऊ वाटतच नव्हतं, ऑफिसच्या कामात तिने स्वतःला इतकं अडकवून घेतलेलं की डोक्यात दुसरा काहीही विचार नको याकडे तिचा कटाक्ष असायचा. रुमवरचे ते काही तास तिला खायला उठायचे, रात्री कशीबशी झोप लागायची. तिला घरीही काम पाहिजे होतं, तिच्या या डिमांड बद्दल बॉसलाही विचित्र वाटायचं. इतर कर्मचारी काम नको म्हणून कारणं शोधायची, पण ही मात्र…जणू कामाची तिला नशाच चढली होती. येताना मेस मधून डबा घेतला..रूमवर येताच फ्रेश होऊन तिने तो उघडला, त्यातल्या खमंग अश्या मसूर डाळीच्या आमटीचा सुवास तिला परत एकदा भूतकाळात घेऊन गेला. 

बाहेर खूप पाऊस पडत होता, कीर्ती आत स्वयंपाकघरात कामं आवरत होती, 

“आई, आज संध्याकाळी काय बनवू जेवायला? तुम्ही सांगा..”

“मसूर डाळ बनव..”

“मला नाही येत. “

“अगं सोपं आहे, मसूर शिजवून घे. त्याला लसूण, मिरची अन थोडं वाटलेलं खोबरं याची फोडणी दे..सगळे मसाले टाक थोडे..”

सासूबाईंनी एका दमात कृती सांगितली अन कीर्ती लगेच कामाला लागली. फोडणी दिली अन त्याचा सुवास घरभर पसरला..सासूबाईंना समाधान वाटलं. त्यांनी मुलाला फोन लावला..

“अरे सतीश, येताना मस्त कोवळे कांदे घेऊन ये, भाजी सोबत छान लागतात..”

“अहो आई पाऊस किती सुरू आहे…यांना कुठे थांबायला लावता..”

“अगं हो की, माझ्या लक्षातच नाही आलं बघ..थांब त्याला परत कॉल करून सांगते की आणू नकोस म्हणून..”

सासूबाई कॉल लावत होत्या, पण सतीश काही उचलत नव्हता. 

“गाडी वर असेल…”

बराच वेळ झाला पण सतीश काही आला नाही. मंदार, त्याचा लहान भाऊ सतीश नंतर घरी यायचा, आता मंदारही आला पण सतीश काही आला नाही.

“आज सकाळी ऑफिसला जायला नको म्हणत होते, मीच बळजबरी पाठवलं, घरी राहून दिवसभर लोळतात फक्त..”

सासू सुनेचं संभाषण चालु असताना एका फोनने क्षणात सगळ्या घरावर दुःखाचं सावट आणलं. सतीश भाजीबाजार मधून गाडी काढत असताना ट्रक ने धडक दिली अन तो जागीच….

कीर्तीचं काय उरलं होतं आता त्या घरात. सतीशच्या जाण्याला कारणीभूत एकमेकांवर आरोप प्रत्यारोप होऊ लागले..

“तो जायला नाही म्हणत होता, हिनेच बळजबरी पाठवलं..थांबू दिलं असतं तर. “

“कांदे आणायला तुम्हीच सांगितलं त्याला, नसतं सांगितलं तर भाजीबाजारात गेलाच नसता तो..”

घरात भांडणं झाली, कीर्ती सगळं आवरून माहेरी गेली. सतीशला जाऊन काही दिवस होत नाही तोच तिला दुसऱ्या लग्नासाठी तगादा लावण्यात आला. अजून मुलबाळ नव्हतं, त्यामुळे पटकन एखाद्या 2 मुलं असलेल्या विधुर माणसाच्या गळी हिला बांधायला सर्वजण टपून बसलेले. किर्तीने सरळ आपली बॅग भरली अन दुसऱ्या शहरात मैत्रिणीकडे आली. एक नोकरी मिळवली, भाड्याने दुसरी खोली मिळवली अन एकटीच राहू लागली. स्वतःला कामात अडकवून घेतलं, जेणेकरून दुसरे विचार त्रास देणार नाहीत. पण आज मसुरच्या डाळीने घरची अन सतीशची आठवण डोक्यात फेर धरू लागली. सतीश तर परत येणार नव्हता, पण त्याच्या आठवणींना तरी जपून ठेवावं असं तिला वाटू लागलं.

रविवारचा दिवस, तिने बॅग भरली अन बसमध्ये चढली. गाडी थांबताच तडक घरी गेली, दार ठोठावलं. एका तरुण विवाहितेने दार उघडलं होतं. 

“कोण पाहिजे??”

तिने किर्तीला ओळखलं नव्हतं, किर्तीला गलबलून आलं. मागून सासूबाई अन मंदार आले..

“कीर्ती..??”

“कीर्ती वहिनी..?”

“अगं सुमेधा ही कीर्ती…थोरली सून माझी..ये आत ये..” सासूबाईंना आपलं जुनं काहीतरी गवसल्याचा आनंद झाला होता. किर्तीने आत पाऊल ठेवलं तसं सासूबाईंनी सुमेधाला मोठी जाऊ म्हणून कीर्तीचे पाय पडायला लावले.सुमेधाने रागातच पाय पडले. हिचं काय काम आहे आता असं सुमेधा मनाशीच बोलत होती. किर्तीला वाटलेलं सासुबाईंचा अजूनही राग असेल आपल्यावर, पण त्यांच्या डोळ्यात काहीतरी वेगळं होतं. 

कीर्ती फक्त काही क्षण आपल्या आठवणी जगायला आलेली, तिची जागा त्या घरात अजूनही तशीच होती. तिची खोली, खोलीतल्या फ्रेम्स, कपाट.. लख्ख पुसून स्वच्छ होतं. तिचे मेडल सासूबाईंनी नव्याने पॉलिश करून आणले होते. 

सासूबाई अन मंदार च्या चेहऱ्यात तिला सतीश दिसत होता, सासूबाईंसारखं नाक..मंदार सारखे डोळे..अगदी असाच होता सतीश. कीर्ती घरभर फिरत होती, सतीश अन तिच्या क्षणांना आठवत होती, हे घर जणू तिच्याकडे एका वेगळ्याच नजरेने बघत होतं. 

ती स्वयंपाकघरात गेली, तिने डब्यांची केलेली मांडणी नवीन आलेल्या सुनेने बदलून टाकली होती. पुसून अगदी स्वच्छ अन मोकळा राहणारा ओटा आता वस्तूंनी बरबटुन गेला होता. देवघरात नवीन देव आले होते, रुखवतात मिळालेल्या बऱ्याच नवीन वस्तूंनी घराची जागा व्यापली होती. ज्या घराचं पान कीर्ती शिवाय हलत नसे, त्याच घरात पाहुणा म्हणून जाताना कीर्तीच्या मनाला असंख्य वेदना होत होत्या. तिचं लक्ष मसूर डाळीच्या डब्याकडे गेलं, डबा रिकामा होता, सासूबाईंनी मसुर डाळ घरातून कायमची हद्दपार केली होती.

सुमेधाला बाहेर जायचं होतं, सासूबाई त्यांच्या थोरल्या सुनेसाठी स्वयंपाक करायला लावायच्या आतच तिला पळवाट काढायची होती. ती निघाली तश्या सासूबाई बोलल्या..

“अगं तुझी थोरली जाऊ आलीय.. कुठे चाललीस ती असताना??”

“हे बघा सासूबाई, मोठे भाऊजी आता नाहीत त्यामुळे यांनी इथे येण्याचं कारण समजलं नाही..यांना त्यांचा वाटा हवा असेल म्हणून इथे आल्या असतील..नाहीतर इतक्या दिवसांनी आजच का यावं यांनी??”

“अगं तुला येऊन वर्ष झालं फक्त, त्या आधी हिनेच सगळं केलेलं घरातलं..”

“आताही केलं असतं, पण नशिबाने त्यांना वैधव्य दिलं त्याला मी तरी काय करू..”

“अगं तुझ्या आधी 3 वर्ष हिनेच घराला घरपण दिलं.. जे झालं त्यात तिची काय चूक होती??”

“जाऊद्या..हे बघा जाउबाई, तुम्ही किती वाजेपर्यंत आहात सांगून द्या, मला बाकीची कामं आहेत..तुमच्या सोबत बसून राहायला वेळ नाही मला..”

“ती आता कायमची इथेच राहणार..”

“काय? सासूबाई काहीही काय बोलताय? हिचा नवरा नाही या जगात, काय ठेवलंय मग हिचं इथे?? उगाच आपल्यावर ओझं..माफ करा पण मी स्पष्ट बोलते…अशी विधवा सून सांभाळायला मला आणि मंदारला नाही जमणार..”

“भांडू नका..मी फक्त सतीशच्या आठवणींना पुन्हा एकदा जगून घ्यायला आलेली, जाते मी परत..”

“कुठे चाललीस? सून म्हणून नाही, पण लेक म्हणून मी तुला अशी वाऱ्यावर सोडणार नाही. सतीशच्या आठवणींपायी तुझ्या माहेरच्यांशी तू नातं तोडलं, कारण ते तुला दुसरं लग्न करायला भाग पाडत होते…मग अशी एकटीच जगशील? हे तुझं हक्काचं घर आहे..कालही होतं अन आजही आहे…”
