पण सुधाच्या आईला सुधा ची काळजी होती, सुधा आणि तिचे आई बाबा एवढ्याच कुटुंबात ती लहानाची मोठी झालेली..स्वयंपाकघरात पाऊल ठेवायची कधी गरज पडली नाही..सगळं आयतं मिळत होतं.. लग्न होणार म्हणून आई तिला बळजबरीने स्वैपाकघरात आणून एकेक गोष्ट शिकवत होती..

“आई काय गं, शिकेल ना मी नंतर…पप्पा बघा ना..”

“काय गं माझ्या लेकीला कामाला लावतेस?”

“तुम्हाला काय जातंय बोलायला, तुम्ही माणसं मस्त सोफ्यावर पाय पसरून पडलेले असतात संध्याकाळी.. बायकांची या वेळेला काय धावपळ असते काय माहीत तुम्हाला…जेवण मशीन मधून बनत नाही, त्यासाठी तास दोन तास मेहनत लागते…”

आईची काळजी अजून वाढली, सुधाही आईचं बोलणं मनावर घेऊ लागली..

“आम्ही तिघे असूनही इथे आईची किती धावपळ होते…तिकडे तर घरात 8-10 माणसं..”

तिच्या डोळ्यासमोर सगळं फिरू लागलं..

“सुनबाई..चहा टाक पटकन, थोड्या वेळाने तुझे सासरे येतील, त्यांना आल्याचा कर…अर्ध्या तासात अमीत उठेल त्याला खोलीत नेऊन दे..सुनबाई, आज नैवेद्य आहे, पुरणपोळी कर बरं..!!! सुनबाई, गावी लोणचं नेऊ म्हणते, यावेळी तुझ्या हातचं कर बघू..”

सुधाच्या डोक्याला मुंग्या येऊ लागतात.. 

“अरे देवा..हे काय, याचा तर मी विचारच केला नाही…असं खरंच झालं तर? “

याविषयी अमित सोबत आपलं मन मोकळं करावं असं तिला वाटू लागलं. भेटून सांगण्याइतपत तिच्यात धीर नव्हता..तिने पटकन त्याला मेसेज केला.

“मला काहीतरी महत्वाचं बोलायचं आहे..”

“हो, पण नंतर, आता जरा आवरतोय..”

सुधा ने घड्याळात पाहिलं, सकाळचे 9 वाजले होते..आता अमित काही 11:30 पर्यंत रिप्लाय देणार नाही..त्यांचं रोजचं असायचं..सकाळी उठल्यापासून मेसेज सुरू व्हायचे, 9 पर्यन्त गप्पा सुरूच..मग अमित बरोबर 9 वाजता तिला निरोप द्यायचा तो डायरेक्ट साडे अकरालाच रिप्लाय द्यायचा..या वेळात तो इतकं काय आवरतो हा सुधाला नेहमी प्रश्न पडायचा…

“बोल गं, काय सांगायचं होतं?”

सुधा वाट बघून बघून आधीच वैतागली होती..चिडून ती त्याला म्हणाली..

“बरं ऐक, सकाळी अंघोळ वगैरे झाली की बाबा आणि मी स्वैपाकघरात जातो…रोजचं ठरलेलं असतं. आई स्वैपाकाला लागलेली असते मग तिला भाजी चिरून देणं, कणिक मळून देणं, कधी कधी भाजीला फोडणी देणं अशी कामं करतो रोज..”

“तुम्ही रोज ही कामं करता?”

“हो मग, आपण रोज जेवतो ना? जेवायचं आपण आणि काम मात्र आई करणार, असं कसं? त्यामुळे आमच्या घरात तसा नियमच आहे…स्वैपाकघरात जाऊन काही ना काही काम करून मगच बाकीचं आटोपायचं.. आज शिरा बनवायचा होता…मग रवा भाजून दिला आईला आणि काजू बदाम सोलून दिले..बाबांनी शिरा बनवला आणि आईने थालीपीठ टाकले..”
