शिखाला एकीकडे आनंदाची बातमी आणि दुसरीकडे दुःखद बातमी कळली होती..साहिलची नोकरी गेल्याने आता दोघांना गावतच आपल्या कुटुंबासोबत राहावं लागणार होतं..

“तुम्हाला आलीये ती मजा?? डॉक्टर असून घरातच आहात ना??”

या वाक्यानंतर आकाशात एक वीज चमकते आणि त्याचा प्रकाश दोघींच्या मधोमध पडतो..

पहिली वीज गडगडते..

“समाजातल्या ज्या घटकांना स्वतःचा आवाज नाही त्यांचा आवाज बनून बहुसंख्यापर्यंत नेतो तो खरा पत्रकार..”

“वादळ वाऱ्याशी झुंज देऊन प्रतिकूल परिस्थितीला मात देऊन जो अक्षय राहतो तो खरा पत्रकार..”

विजांच्या गडगडाटाने आकाश दुमदुमून जातं… शिखाच्या डोळ्यात निखारे पेटलेले असतात…पत्रकार म्हणजे कोण हे तिला आज समजलेलं असतं.. केवळ व्यवसाय आणि पैसा या पलीकडे पत्रकार समाजात काय उलथापालथ करू शकतो आणि आपल्याकडे किती सामर्थ्य आहे याची जाण तिला झाली…

काही मिनिटे दोघीही समोरासमोर स्तब्ध उभ्या राहतात…बाहेर जोरदार पावसाला सुरुवात होते…

साहिलचा जीव की प्राण म्हणजे शिखा असते..शिखाला याची जाणीव होते तेव्हा तिला बायको म्हणून आपल्या कर्तव्याची जाणीव होते..

शिखा काही दिवस साहिलकडेच थांबते, त्याची मनस्थिती पूर्वतत होते आणि तो शिखाला बाहेर पडायला सांगतो..

एका ठिकाणी एक स्त्री बाहेर कपडे धुत असते..तिची तिन्ही लहान मुलं जवळ खेळत असतात..समोरून एक ट्रॅक्टर येत असतं.. त्या स्त्री चं लहान मूल त्याच्या समोर जातं… शिखा त्याला वाचवायला धावायच्या आत ती स्त्री वाऱ्याच्या वेगाने पळत जाते अन मुलाला बाजूला ओढते..त्याला उचलून छातीशी धरते..तिन्ही मुलांना आपल्या झोपडीत नेऊन ठेवते…

शिखाच्या काळजाचा ठोकाच चुकतो..ती त्या स्त्रीच्या झोपडीत जाते..

“अहो शिखा ताई तुम्ही?? या या..”

“अहो तुमचा मुलगा..”

“देवाची कृपा म्हणून लक्ष गेलं माझं..नाहीतर या मुलांशिवाय मला आहे तरी कोण??”

“तुमचे पती??”

“नाव काढू नका त्याचं.. आम्हाला वाऱ्यावर सोडून गेला दुसऱ्या बाईसोबत पळून.. त्या बाईने अतोनात हाल केले याचे…आला होता परत, पण मीच हाकललं त्याला…दारू प्यायचा, आम्हाला मारझोड करायचा..”
