तिला शाळेतले दिवस आठवले,
अत्यंत साधी..अबोल आणि आत्मविश्वास नसलेली मुलगी, खूप घाबरायची…अभ्यासातही मागे..
पण आज फोटोत नक्की हीच का असा प्रश्न पडावा..
अमेरिकेतल्या एका मोठ्या उद्यानात अगदी हिरोईन सारखे तोकडे कपडे घालून, पार्लर मध्ये जाऊन चमकवून आणलेले चेहरा आणि केस…अश्या तिने नवऱ्यासोबत बरेच फोटो टाकलेले,
अतिशय खुश दिसत होती ती…
उत्सुकता म्हणून तिने तिची प्रोफाइल चाळली,
मोठमोठ्या हॉटेल्स मधले फोटो काय, पार्टीज मधलं सेलिब्रेशन काय..आलिशान कार काय..हे बघून तिचे डोळे दिपून गेले..
मनात नकळत चलबिचल सुरू झाली,
तुलना सुरू झाली,
तिच्या बेड पासून जवळच कपाट होतं, तिथे आरसा होता…
आरशातून ती स्वतःला पाहत होती, केस विस्कटलेले, चेहऱ्यावर मुरूम, शरीराचा झालेला बटाटा…
शाळेत अव्वल असायची ती, सगळ्या उपक्रमात हिरीहिरीने भाग घेणारी अत्यंत ऍक्टिव्ह मुलगी..
“मग असं चांगलं आयुष्य मी का नाही डीझर्व करत? मी मागे पडले का? की लग्नाचा निर्णय चुकला?? शाळेत सर्वात पुढे असणारी मी आज सर्वांच्या मागे का??? देश सोडाच पण जिल्ह्याच्या बाहेरही कधी गेले नाही आजवर..”
या विचारांनी तिची झोप उडाली, एरवी काम करून थकून दमणारी आणि लगेच डोळा लागणारी ती आज जागीच होती,
त्या एका फोटोने तिचं अख्ख मनस्वास्थ्य बिघडून गेलेलं..
नवरा घरी आला,
“काय गं झोपली नाहीस?”
“काय रोज रोज कामं करायची आणि झोपायचं… दुसरं आयुष्यच नाही का? की आयुष्यभर तेच करणार?”
तिच्या या उत्तराने तो स्तब्ध झाला,
हिला काय झालं अचानक?
