आज रविवार असल्याकारणाने सुनीलने सानिकाला सुट्टीच्या दिवशी बाहेर जायला आवडतं म्हणून हा बेत केला. सुनीलला स्वतःला खरंतर रविवार म्हणजे घरी मस्तपैकी जेवून दुपारी ताणून द्यायला फार आवडत असे. पण कधीतरी सानिकाच्या आवडीचं काही करावं म्हणून त्यांने हा बेत ठरवला. त्यामुळे सानिका एकदम खुशीत होती. घरात काय करायचं नव्हतं त्यामुळे वेळेच्या आधीच मस्तपैकी तयार होऊन ती हॉलमध्ये आली. सुनील तिच्याकडे अनिमिष नेत्रांनी पहातच राहिला. सानिका गुलाबी रंगाच्या ड्रेस मध्ये खूपच सुंदर दिसत होती. तिने तिचे सरळ रेशमी केस मोकळे सोडले होते. हलकासा मेकअप करून ओठावर फिकटशी लिपस्टिक लावली होती. सुनील तिला बघून म्हणाला,*तुला इतका छान तयार झालेले बघून बाहेर जायची इच्छा होत नाही.” सानिका लाजून त्याला म्हणाली,”चल आता लवकर नाहीतर हॉटेलमध्ये टेबल नाही मिळणार.” दोघे त्यांच्या आवडत्या रेस्टॉरंटमध्ये आले आणि दोघांचेही आवडीचं जेवण यथेच्छ जेवून बाहेर पडले. ‘बुक माय शो’ मधून आवडीच्या चित्रपटाचे बुकिंग त्यांनी केलं होतं. हा सिनेमा त्यांना कधीपासून बघायचं होता पण योग येत नव्हता. सिनेमा बघून दोघं घरी आले. दोघांनी मस्त ताणून द्यायचे ठरवलं होतं. सुनील तर लगेच घोरायला पण लागला. इतक्यात दारावरची बेल वाजली. दार उघडून बघितलं तर फुलपुडी टाकणारा दिपू दारात उभा होता. सानिका त्याला म्हणाली,
“अरे तू आज आत्ता कसा आलास. नेहमी रात्री येतोस ना. ये आत मध्ये ये.”
” हो आता मला थोडा वेळ मिळाला म्हणून मी आत्ता आलो. चालेल ना.””हो चालेल. बस मी पाणी आणते.”सानिकाने त्याला पाणी आणून दिलं आणि त्याला चहाचं विचारलं. चहा बरोबर तिने त्याला खायला पण दिलं. दिपू कॉलेजमध्ये शिकून फुलपुडी आणि इतर अशीच दोन-तीन कामं करत होता. सानिकाला म्हणूनच दिपूचं विशेष कौतुक वाटायचं. तिने विचार केला की एरव्ही हा फटाफट हिशोब करुन पळत असतो. चहा पाणी काहीही घेत नाही आणि आता तो मध्ये मध्ये तिच्याशी गप्पाही मारत होता.तो सानिकाला म्हणाला,” ताई तुम्हाला खरं नाही वाटणार मी सात-आठ वर्षांचा होईपर्यंत काही बोलायचो नाही. कोणी बोललेलं मला सगळं कळायचं पण मी मात्र हातवारे करूनच मला काही सांगायचं असेल तर सांगायचो. सर्व लोक मला मुका – मुका अशीच हाक मारायचे. तुम्हाला वेळ आहे का. सांगू का मी कसा बोलायला लागलो ते.” . सानिका त्याला म्हणाली, ” अरे मला वेळ आहे तुलाच खूप घाई असते. सांग ना मला आवडेल ऐकायला”.तो सांगू लागला, ” मी आमच्या घरातला सर्वात धाकटा. माझ्या आधी दोन भाऊ आणि दोन बहिणी आहेत. आमचं एकदम खेडेगाव आहे. आता थोड्या सुधारणा झाल्या आहेत. शेतीच्या कामासाठी मनुष्यबळ हवं म्हणून प्रत्येक घरात सात आठ माणसं असतात. माझा जन्म घरीच झाला. जन्मल्याबरोबर माझ्या तोंडातून अगदी किंचित आवाज आला. पण मी इतर बाळांसारखा मोठ्याने टॅंयाssहा करून रडलो नाही. दिवसागणीक मी मोठा होत होतो पण मला काहीच बोलता येतं नव्हतं. माझ्या मनात खूप काही बोलायचं असायचं पण ते शब्द मनातच राहत असत. सर्वांना वाटलं काही मुलं उशिरा बोलतात तसा मी बोलायला लागेन. पण मी दोन वर्षांचा झालो तरी तसाच. माझ्या आई बाबांनी त्यांच्या परीने खूप प्रयत्न केले. गावातले डॉक्टर म्हणाले ह्याला शहरात न्यावं लागेल. आई बाबांकडे तेव्हढे पैसे नव्हते. बरं मला ऐकायला चांगलं येत होतं . त्यांनी विचार केला ठीक आहे त्याला आपण काय सांगतो ते कळतं तरी. त्यातही गावकरी काही घरगुती उपाय सांगायचे ते सर्व हे करून बघायचे. माझ्यात काहीच फरक पडत नव्हता. तसा मी हुशार होतो. मोठा होताना मी सर्व जण सांगायचे ते करायचो. खाणाखुणा करून मी बोलायचा प्रयत्न करायचो. माझं नाव दीपक तरी मला मुका अशीच हाक मारायचे. थोडा मोठा झाल्यावर मला शाळेत पण घातलं. मी चांगला होतो अभ्यासात. आई बरोबर शेतात पण जायचो. असं होता होता मी साडे सात वर्षाचा झालो. माझ्याकडे बघून आई बाबांना वाईट वाटायचं. ते देवाला रोज प्रार्थना करायचे की ह्याला बोलता येऊ दे. बोलता येत नाही म्हणून दिपूच्या चेहऱ्यावर एक प्रकारचा गरीब भाव असायचा.दिपू बोलायला लागला की नाही, कसा बोलायला लागला ते पाहूया पुढच्या भागात.क्रमशः©️®️सीमा गंगाधरे
मागच्या भागात आपण पाहिलं दिपू सानिकाला तो कसा बोलायला लागला ते सांगत असतो. आता दिपू पुढे सानिकाला सांगतोय,एक दिवस अचानक माझ्या आईची मावशी बऱ्याच वर्षांनी आमच्या घरी आली. ती वयस्कर आणि खूप अनुभवी होती. तिने मला पाहिलं आणि माझ्या आईला विचारलं की मी कधीपासून बोलत नाही. आईने सर्व सांगितलं. मावशी म्हणाली,” चार पाच दिवस जाऊ देत मी एक उपाय सांगते पण तुला मन जरा घट्ट करावं लागेल. मला खात्री आहे की हा नक्की बोलू लागेल. याच्या आयुष्यात न बोलल्यामुळे खूप मोठं नुकसान होतंय. मी त्याला नक्की बोलतं करेन. तू काही काळजी करू नकोस.” आईची मावशी म्हणजे माझी आजी खूप प्रेमळ होती. ती खूपच लांब राहायची म्हणून इतकी वर्ष येऊ शकली नाही. ती आम्हा भावंडांसाठी घरातल्या सामनातूनच वेगवेगळे खाण्याचे प्रकार करायची. मी असा असल्यामुळे तिला माझ्याबद्दल खूप प्रेम वाटायचे. ती मला जवळ घ्यायची, माझ्या केसातुन हात फिरवायची. तिला माझ्याबद्दल खूप माया वाटायची.आजीला येऊन चारपाच दिवस झाले . तिने माझ्या आईला भाताची कणगी रिकामी करून घ्यायला सांगितले. आईला कळेचना ती असं का सांगतेय. मग ती माझ्या आईला म्हणाली,” अगं दिपूला ह्या कणगीत सोडायचं आणि लाल मिरच्यांची धुरी त्याला द्यायची. नाकातोंडात मिरचीचा धूर गेला की हा बोलायला लागेल.” आईला हे मान्य नव्हतं इतक्या लहान मुलाला अशा प्रकारे वागणूक द्यायची. मावशी आईला म्हणाली,
“फक्त पाच दहा मिनिटं त्याला त्रास होईल पण मी तुला खात्रीने सांगते तो नक्की बोलेल. हा त्याच्या जीवनाचा प्रश्न आहे . तो आयुष्यभर मुका राहिलेला तुला चालणार आहे का.” आई म्हणाली,”नाही चालणार मला पण मनापासून वाटते की त्याने बोलावं. इतरांसारख्या त्याच्या भावना व्यक्त कराव्या.” आणि सरतेशेवटी ती तयार झाली. त्यांनी मला पण नीट समजावून सांगितले. मी लहान होतो पण मलाही कळत होतं की बोलता न येण्यामुळे आपलं खूप नुकसान होतंय. मी हिमतीने हो म्हणालो .नंतर मला कणगीत सोडण्यात आलं माझी आई रडत होती. मावशीने तिला खोलीबाहेर काढलं आणि मिरचीची धुरी करून ती पण बाहेर गेली. सुरुवातीला मला काही वाटलं नाही पण नंतर माझे डोळे झोंबायला लागले. नाका तोंडातून पाणी यायला लागले. मी आईला हाका मारायचा प्रयत्न केला पण शब्दच फुटत नव्हते . शेवटी मी जिवाच्या कराराने ओरडलो आणि माझ्या तोंडातून शब्द फुटला ” आई”. आई आणि आजी दोघी धावत आल्या आणि मला बाहेर वाऱ्यावर नेलं. मी आईला घट्ट बिलगलो आणि पुन्हा आई म्हटलं. सगळ्यांना खूप आनंद झाला. आधी माझे उच्चार स्पष्ट नव्हते. मी स च्या जागी फ म्हणायचो, घ च्या जागी झ म्हणायचो. थोड्या दिवसांनी मी छान बोलायला लागलो. माझ्या कानावरून सर्व शब्द आधी गेले होते म्हणून मला वेगळं शिकवायला लागलं नाही. मला स्वतःला पण खूप आनंद झाला. पण इतरांसारखे बोलू शकतो. माझ्यातील एक न्यून कमी झाल्यामुळे माझा आत्मविश्वास दुणावला.
मी दहावी झाल्यावर मोठ्या भावाचे दुकान होतं मुंबईला तिथे तो मला पुढच्या शिक्षणासाठी घेऊन आला. दुकानातील छोटी कामं करता करता मी शिकू लागलो. गेल्या वर्षी मी बारावी झालो. कोणीतरी मला हे फुलपुडी टाकण्याचं काम दिलं. त्यामुळे मी थोडी कमाई करू शकतो आणि शिकतोही. दिपू सानिकाला म्हणाला,”तुमच्या सारख्यांचे आशीर्वाद पाठीशी आहेतच. मी कधी गावाला गेलो की आईला खूप आनंद होतो. आई आणि आजीच्या प्रयत्नांमुळे आज मी इथे आहे.”सानिकाच्या मनात आलं धन्य ती आई आणि मावशी एव्हढा कठोर उपाय करायला तयार झाल्या . ‘प्रयत्नांती परमेश्वर’ म्हणतात ते खोटं नाही . दिपू अभ्यासात हुशार असल्यामुळे उद्या तो पदवीधर होऊन पुढेही शिकू शकतो. त्याला असेच यश मिळो. आपण किती जणांच्यात नेहमी वावरतो पण आपल्याला त्यांच्याबद्दल काही घटना माहीत नसतात. आपण मुद्दाम खोदून कुणाला काही विचारत नाही. पण असं काही कळलं की अचंबित व्हायला होतं. खरं ना.समाप्त©️®️सीमा गंगाधरे
