नाव सोनुबाई हाती कथलाचा वाळा.”कच कच कांदा कापताना बोट सुरीतन वाचवली. हाताला चटका लागला तरी मी कढई तापवली.”चिंगी मस्त गाणे ऐकत नाचत होती.तेवढ्यात कढईत चर्र करून फोडणी दिल्याचा वास आला आणि पाठोपाठ दांडपट्टा सुरू झाला.”कार्टी बापावर गेली नुसती. फक्त मोठ्या गप्पा हाणायच्या कामधंदा काय न्हाय.”पारू जोरात ओरडली आणि चिंगी तिच्याकडे वळली.”ममे,कायबी बोलू नग. समद गाव सर्जेराव पाटील ह्या नुसत्या नावाला घाबरत हाय कुठ?””कार्टे,आधी ते ममे फिमे बंद कर. आक्षी आजीवर गेली कार्टी.”तेवढ्यात सर्जा धारा काढून आत आला.”हा,पारे एक मला बोलली पर आईला काय बोलू नग. धा गावात रखमाबाई पाटलिन सुगरण आन कामाला वाघ व्हती.” सर्जा ओरडला.”व्हय काय? मग सांगू का तुमच्या धा गावात प्रसिद्ध सुगरणीची गोष्ट.” पारूने आव्हान दिले.”काय ग ममे,काय ?” चिंगी ओरडली.”पारे,कायबी सांगून पोरांना बिघडवू नग.” सर्जा कातावला.”म्या खोटं बोलत आसल तर दुरपदा मावशीला इचारू येणारच हाय की मामी थोड्या येळात.””मला चहा दे. शेताव जायचं हाय.” सर्जा कसेबसे म्हणाला.”हा धनी आता का माग सरले. ऐका की तुमच्या नाव सोनुबाई आन…. अशी परसिद्ध गोष्ट. व्हवू दे की खरखोटं.”पारूने त्याला डिवचले.”अस्स? मंग यिवू दे दुरपदा मामीला.” सर्जा जोशात म्हणाला.दुरपदा म्हणजे पारूची मावशी आणि सर्जाची मामी. त्यामुळे दुरपदा मावशी पारूच्या सासूची बरोबर न बोलता खोड मोडत असे. तेवढ्यात बाहेरूनच मोठ्याने आवाज आला.”पारू,आग हाईस ना घरात?” तशी लगबगीने पारू बाहेर आली.”मावशे,अग सकाळी फोन केला व्हता ना. मंग म्या बरी जाईल. आन आज तुझा जावाय पण हाय की घरात.” पारू मावशीला आत घेऊन आली.सर्जा आणि दुरपदा दोघांना एकेक थालीपीठ दिले आणि पारू चहा आणायला गेली.तेवढ्यात सर्जा बोललाच,”मामी तुमची पारू मस सुगरण हाय पर आई करायची तस थालीपीठ काय जमत न्हाय बगा.”हे ऐकताच दुरपदा मोठ्याने हसली.”सर्जेराव,आता वन्स न्हाईत तवा तुमाला सांगायला हरकत न्हाई. माझ लगीन झालं तावापून म्या ऐकायची माझी रखमा लई सुगरण.””मामी,आय व्हतीच की सुगरण.” सर्जेराव रागावून बोलला.”सर्जेराव पारू आल्यावर तुमच्या आईन एकटीन सैपाक केलता का?””न्हाय बा!” सर्जाने मान हलवली.”आन तुमचं खटल्याच घर व्हत तवा?” दुरपदा अंदाज घेत पुन्हा म्हणाली.सर्जाची मान नकारार्थी हलली.”अस्स,मंग आता आईकाच तुमी.” दुरपदाने आपली नथ सावरली आणि गोष्ट सांगायला बैठक जुळवली.”तर म्या काय सांगत व्हते. माझ लगीन झाल आन सासू सारखी टिमकी वाजवायला लागली. माझी रखमा आशी आन माझी रखमा तशी. म्या आपली सासुरवाशीण गप आईकुन घ्यायची. पर वन्स आमच्या घरी आल्या की कायबी करीत नसायच्या. फक्त हिकडन काय बाय घिऊन यायच्या. एक दिस म्या आन कारभारी दोघच घरी व्हतो. कारभारी एक इचारू का?असला प्रश्न आल्यावर अनुभवी नवरा सावध होतो पण दुरपदा मावशीचे लग्न नवे होते.”एक का? धा इचार.” समोरून उत्तर आले.दुरपदा लाडाने नवऱ्याजवळ गेली. त्याचा हात आपल्या नाजूक हातात घेतला आणि हळूच म्हणाली,”काय व खरच तुमची आक्का एवढी सुगरण हाय?”तोवर गडी तिच्या डोळ्यात खल्लास झाला होता.”आक्की आन सुगरण? हित समद धाकल्या भनी करायच्या आन तिकड समद धाकल्या जावा. ही आपली फकस्त मिरवायला. हा पर येवरात लई हुशार आक्की.”नवरा बहिणीचे कौतुक करत होता.दुरपदाचे काम झाले होते. आता ह्या सुगरणीला चांगलाच धडा शिकवायचा चंग तिने बांधला. पण तशी संधी मिळत नव्हती. घरात सासूचे राज्य होते. त्यामुळे दुरपदा संधीची वाट पाहत होती.अनेकदा संधी यायची पण रखमा फार हुशार होती. त्यामुळे मनात असूनही दुरपदा काहीही करू शकत नव्हती. परंतु म्हणतात ना मनापासून प्रयत्न केले तर दगडातही देव प्रकट होतो. तसेच दुरपदाला लवकरच ही संधी मिळाली.कशी ते पाहूया पुढील भागात.
नाव सोनुबाई हाती कथलाचा वाळा. भाग 2मागील भागात आपण पाहिले फक्त नावाचे सुगरणपण मिरवणाऱ्या आपल्या नणंद बाईला धडा शिकवायचा असे दुरपदा ठरवते आता पाहूया पुढे.गौरीच्या सणाला दुरपदा आणि तिच्या नुकत्याच लग्न झालेल्या धाकट्या जावेने मिळून छान पुरणा वरणाचा स्वयंपाक केला होता. रखमा आदल्या दिवशी माहेरी पोहोचली.”वैनी,दुरपा वैनी !” बाहेरून आवाज येताच दुरपदा पटकन पाणी घेऊन गेली.रखामाचे पाय धुवून तिला आत आणले.”आता,फक्त नावाला पाय धूनार का काय? म्हणत्यात ना पोटभर जेव ग बया आन सैपकाचा नाय पत्त्या.” रखमा नथीचा आकडा उडवत म्हणाली.”वन्स आव धाकली ताट वाढत हाये. गरमगरम भाकऱ्या केल्यात.”
“बया,दुरपा वैनी आता मला भाकऱ्या खायला घालणार व्हय. वाईच जरा गॉड काय बनवा.””वन्स,शिरा बनवते.” धाकटी आतून बोलली.दोघी जावा तिला जेऊ घालत होत्या तोवर सासू आली.”रखमे, पॉटभर जेव बाय.””व्हय,बिन तुपाचा आन दुधाचा शिरा खाते आता म्या.” रखमाने तोंड वाकडे केले.”शिरा कुणी केला दुरपे.” सासू ओरडली.”त्ये..” दुरपा घुटमळली.”नव्या सूनन केला बघ.” रखमा बोलली.”अस्स आग मग बराबर हाय तिन आईबाच्या घरी दूध तूप बगितल नसणार.” सासूने उत्तर दिले.धाकटी डोळ्यातले पाणी लपवत उभी राहिली.”आई गौराई,ह्या उसन्या सुगरणीला चांगला धडा शिकिव बाई.” दुरपदा मनात म्हणाली.रात्री निजानीज झाल्यावर दुरपा भाकर आणि बेसन घेऊन धाकटीकडे गेली.”खाऊन घे गंगू.””नग मला, तुमी कस सहन करता येवड?””गंगू,जरा कळ सोस,म्या ह्यांना वठणीवर आणते का नाय बघ.” दोघी जावा दोन दोन घास खाऊन उठल्या.त्या वर्षी गौरी गणपती झाले आणि सासूने चारधाम यात्रेला जायचे जाहीर केले.
“दुरपे, गंगे यंदा म्या दिवाळीला नाय. त्यात दुरपा पोटुशी. म्या रखमाला सांगितलं हाय. तिच्या पोराला जावा संभाळत्याल. ती हिकड यील. तुमी जरा शिकून घ्या तिच्याजवळ.””आत्या, हौसाआक्का आन सुंदर आक्काबी येत्याल नव्हं?” गंगू म्हणाली.”छ्या,त्यांच्या माग लई याप.” सासूने तिला उडवून लावलेदोन दिवसांनी सासू यात्रेला गेली. त्यांनतर दुरपा आणि गंगू दोघींनी बाजाराला जायचा हट्ट धरला. शेवटी घरचा गडी त्यांना बरोबर देऊन दुरपाच्या नवऱ्याने परवानगी दिली.
गाडी बाजाराला आली. दुरपदा आपल्या दोन्ही नणंदा दिसतील म्हणून आशेने फिरत होती सगळा बाजार उरकला.”दुरपाआक्का त्या दोगी नाय आल्या वाटत ह्या येळला.” गंगू नाराज झाली.तेवढ्यात लांबूनच दोन बायका पळत येताना दिसल्या.”सुंद्रे म्या म्हणलं व्हत ना वैन्याच हायेत.” हौसा धापा टाकत म्हणाली.चौघींनी पोटभर गप्पा मारल्या. आई सतत रखमा आक्काचे गोडवे गात असल्याने ह्या दोघी फार माहेरी येत नसत.”सुंदरआक्का आन हौसाआक्का यंदा माझ्यासाठी आन पोटातल्या बाळासाठी या.” दोघींना गळ घालून दुरपदा परत आली.
इकडे रखमा लहान जावाना सूचना देऊन माहेरी रवाना झाली. सुंदरा आणि हौसा आलेल्या बघून तिला मनातून आनंद झाला.”वैनी,पाणी आण.” रखमाने हाक मारली.”आक्के,दुरपदा वैनी दवाखान्यात गेली हाय.””अस्स,मंग तू आण की पाणी सुंद्रे.””बया सुंद्रे बोलतकाय बसली तिकड पमीला भेटायला जायचं हाय चल लवकर.””थांब आक्कीला पाणी देते. तवर तू चा ठीव.””आत्त्ता,आक्की हाय मस खमकी. आक्के आमी आलोच जाऊन.” रखमा तशीच तणतणत घरात गेली.कडाडून भूक लागली होती. तिने या आधी एकटीने स्वयंपाक सोडा एखादा पदार्थ नीट केलेला नव्हता. सासरी सासू नसल्याचा फायदा तिने पुरेपूर उचलला. एकत्र लग्न झालेल्या धाकट्या जावेला कामाला लावून. इकडे बहिणी होत्याच.
शेवटी रखमाने जावांनी बांधून दिलेला खाऊ सोडला. त्यातील लाडू,चिवडा वगैरे खाऊन कशीबशी आपली भूक भागवली. आता बहिणी किंवा भावजया यायची वाट बघावी लागणार होती. रखमाचा पारा चढला होता. तेवढ्यात तिला सुंदरा आणि हौसा येताना दिसल्या आणि तिला जरा हायसे वाटले.”सुंद्रे जरा दोन भाकऱ्या टाक आन हौसे पिठल करायला घे.” रखमाने हुकूम सोडला.”आक्के अग त्या पमीच्या भावजयीन आमाला मेंदी काढली हाय. आता दोन तास तरी काय करता याच नाय. तूच बघ की कायतरी.” हौसा सुंदराला हाताला धरून आत घेऊन गेली.आता दुरपदा आणि गंगूची वाट बघण्याशिवाय पर्याय नव्हता.रखमा गप्प बसेल का? दुरपदा तिला कसा धडा शिकवेल पाहूयाअंतिम भागात.
नाव सोनुबाई हाती कथलाचा वाळा अंतिम भाग.मागील भागात आपण पाहिले माहेरी आलेल्या रखमाला सकाळपासून कोणी एक तांब्या पाणी दिले नव्हते. प्रचंड रागावून रखमा आपल्या दोन्ही भावजया कधी परत येतील याची वाट बघत होती. आता पाहूया पुढे.रखमाला लांबूनच तिघी जणी येताना दिसल्या. दुरपदा आणि पारुला चांगले फैलावर घ्यायचे तिने ठरवले होते.”वन्स,आशा दारात का व बसल्या?” गंगू सहज बोलून गेली.”हा हे बरय वैनी तुमच बकरीला बांधली मुसकी आन चारा खा ग बया.” रखमा मुरका मारत बोलली.तेवढ्यात सरुबाई पुढे झाली. सरस्वती म्हणजे रखमाच्या सासऱ्याची सख्खी बहिण. रखमा मुद्दाम सरू आत्याला जास्त भाव देत नसे.
“काय ग रखमे अस काय बोलती. अग ही पोर पोटुशी हाय. गंगू नवीन. तूच त्यांना सांभाळायचं तर ह्ये काय बया बोलण.” सरू आत्याने उलट रखमाला फैलावर घेतले.आजवर रखमाची आई तिची बाजू घेऊन सरूला गप्प करायची.रखमा उलट उत्तर देणार तेवढ्यात सरू आत्या म्हणाली,”रखमे,म्या मावळण सासू हाय तुझी. अग जरा चा पाणी काय इचारशील का न्हाय.””व्हय,बसा की आत्याबाय. गंगू जा चा ठीव. म्या आलेच मागण.” रखमा हसत म्हणाली.”गंगू तुझ्या हाताला लई गुण हाय. पाठ जरा धरली हाय. तेवढी चोळून दे. तवर रखमा चा ठीविल.” सरू आत्याने गंगुला थांबवले.
रखमा पाय आपटत आत गेली. चुलितली राख बाजूला सारली आणि चुलीत लाकड सारून चहाचे आधण ठेवले.”रखमे ,आता कर चा. हिच्या घरची मोलकरीण नव्ह तू.” रखमा स्वतः शीच बोलत होती.कसाबसा चहा केला आणि रखमा चहा घेऊन बाहेर आली.”बया,ह्यो चा हाय का फुळुक पाणी. साखर संपली व्हय ग दुरपे?” सरू आत्या मोठ्याने म्हणाली.” आव त्यासनी हित सैपाक करायची सवय न्हाय रायली आता.” गंगू पटकन बोलली.
“पर तुझी सासू म्हणती माझ्या पोरिगत सुगरण धा गावात गावायची न्हाय. ते समद खोटच हाय म्हणायचं मग.””सरू आत्या,आपल्या घरी तुमी पार बोट चाटीत जेवता की.” रखमाने रागाने उत्तर दिले.”वन्स,मला आन बाळाला बी तुमच्या हातच खाऊ वाटतय करा की कायतरी बेत.” दुरपदा हळूच म्हणाली.”रखमे पोटुशी बाईची इच्छा मारू नाय. मस्त कायतरी चांगल कर. म्याबी हितच हाय आजच्या दिवस.” सरू आत्याने पुढचे वाक्य पूर्ण केले.आता मात्र रखमाला आस्मान आठवले. आजवर धाकट्या बहिणी आणि जावा राबायच्या आणि हिचेच नाव व्हायचे. गोड बोलून रखमा सगळीकडे श्रेय लाटून घेत असे. आता काय करायचे? तेवढ्यात तिने स्वतः ला समजावले.
” तू रखमा हाईस. रोज सैपाक व्हताना बघती ना. आज फकस्त करायचा हाय.”रखमाने स्वतः ला समजावले. त्यातल्या त्यात सोपे म्हणून वांग्याचे भरीत,भाकरी,शिरा आणि वरण भात असे तिने ठरवले.घरी धाकटी जाऊ भाकरी थापायची,मधली पीठ मळायची आणि रखमा फक्त भाकरी भाजायची. पीठ मळायला घेतले आणि सराव नसल्याने पाणी कमी जास्त व्हायला लागले.तेवढ्यात पाणी प्यायला आत आलेली हौसा म्हणाली,”आज आक्कीच्या हातच जेवायच मला तर बया आतापासूनच भुका लागल्यात.””आक्का,म्या भाकरी भाजायला बसू काय?” गंगू म्हणाली.”गंगू वैनी, तुमी माझ्या डोक्यात तेल घालून मालिश करा. आक्की आता अर्ध्या तासात सैपाक करील हाय काय अन नाय काय.”रखमा जवळपास तीन तास खपून सैपाक करत होती.”बया,रखमे आजच देणार हाये ना जेवायला?” सरू आत्या बाहेरून ओरडली.”आत्या झालच हाय. शेतावरची आली की घिऊ जेवायला.” आतून आवाज आला.
“वन्स,आज रानात फिस्ट हाय. आपून बायाच हाये जेवायला.” दुरपदा सगळ्यांना आत घेऊन आली.हौसा आणि सुंदराने वाढायला मदत केली.”रखमे अग भाकरीला पापुद्रा दिसना? अशी कशी भाकरी केली?” सरू आत्या भाकर हातात घेऊन म्हणाली.” आक्के,भरीत वाईच जास्त जळल काय? करपट वास येतोय.” सुंदरा हळूच बोलली.”हे म्हंजी नाव सोनुबाई आन हाती कथलाचा वाळा तशी गत झाली म्हणायची. धा गावात सुगरण लेकीची.”सरू आत्याने शेवटचा घाव घातला आणि मग मात्र रखमा मोठ्याने रडायला लागली.”मला समजतय समद,दुरपदा वैनी त्वा मुद्दाम समद आखल हाये ना?” रखमा डोळे पुसत म्हणाली.”वन्स मला माफी करा आव पर ह्या घरात आल्यापासन म्या फक्त रखमा आशी आन रखमा तशी असच ऐकत आले. मग ठरिवल कशी हाय रखमा बघूच.””ती एक भावजय हाय. तुमी पाठच्या भैनी ना?” रखमाच्या नाकाचा शेंडा लाल झाला होता.”आक्के,आई सारखी म्हणती रखमा तालेवार,सगळ्यात हुशार हित यायला बी नग वाटत.” दोघी बहिणी एका सुरात बोलल्या.तेवढ्यात सरस्वती उठली आणि तिने रखमाला जवळ घेतले.”रखमे,आज जावाभावा हाताखाली हायेत पर किती दिस? उद्या तुझ पोरग तुझ्यासारख व्हईल. तवा पोरी आता तरी सुधार आन नुसती नावाची नग तर गुणाची सोनुबाई हो.”रखमाने सरू आत्याला घट्ट मिठी मारली आणि आपल्या चुकांची कबुली दिली.”दुरपदामावशी मानल तुला, तू चांगली जिरवली की.” पारू हसत म्हणाली.”आ पारे,म्या व्हते म्हणून तुला खरी सुगरण सासू मिळाली इसरू नग. चल दोन थालीपीठ वाढ आणखी काय व जावाय.”दुरपदा नथीचा आकडा उडवत म्हणाली आणि सगळे घर हसण्यात बुडून गेले.सदर कथा केवळ मनोरंजन ह्या हेतूने लिहिलेली आहे. तोच हेतू समोर ठेवून वाचनाचा आनंद घ्यावा.©®प्रशांत कुंजीर©® प्रशांत कुंजीर.
