“तेरा वो प्रकाश अब भी तुझसे प्यार करता हैं ऐसा तू समझती हैं ना? मेरी मानेगी तो ऐसा कुछ नही हैं रे पगली. कदाचित त्याला त्याच्या चुकीचे प्रायश्चित करायचे असेल म्हणून लग्न केलं नसेल आणि तुला वाटतंय की अजूनही तो तुझ्यावर प्रेम करतो. ऐसा नही रहता, समझी?”“आँटी, तुला चढलीय म्हणून तू असं बोलतेस. तुला माहिती आहे ना, तो तसा नाहीये गं.”“काय चढली बिढली नाही. आत्ता कुठं घशातून खाली उतरलीय और सुन, मला माहिती आहे सारं. ही पुरुष जात कशी असते, सगळं सगळं मला ठाऊक आहे. सगळे पुरुष सारखेच असतात.साली मर्दजात सिर्फ कहने के लिए, घरसे छुपके यहाँ इज्जत लुटने आते हैं, उनसे अच्छे तो हम हैं. हम कम से कम इज्जत से अपनी इज्जत बेचते हैं, उनके जैसे चोरी छिपे नही.” चंपाच्या चेहऱ्यावर किंचित झुकत ती तोऱ्यात म्हणाली. कदाचित तिच्यावर नशेचा अंमल चढत आला होता.
“नाही, प्रकाश तसा नव्हता.. नाहीये. इथे आला तेव्हातरी त्याने कुठे मला हात लावला होता? तुला वाटते की प्रायश्चित म्हणून त्याने लग्न केले नसावे, ते जरी मी मानलं तरी मग मघाशी आलेली ती पोर.. मनस्वी? तिचं काय? का त्याने तिला वाढवून डॉक्टर केली? का इतक्या वर्षांनी ती मुलगी इथं आली?” कातर स्वरात विचारलेला चंपाचा प्रश्न शीलाआँटीच्या कानावर आदळला.“तेरेको वो वो दिखाना चाहता हैं. क्या बोलते रे उसको? हं.. सिम्पथी..” डोके खाजवत शीलाआँटीने डोळ्यांची उघडझाप केली. शेवटी तिच्या भंडाऱ्यातून तिला हवा असलेला शब्द एकदाचा सापडला.“सिम्पथी दिखाके एक बार और तुझे इंप्रेस करने के लिए उसे भेजा होगा. एवढीशी गोष्ट तुला कळत नाही चंपा. वो डॉक्टरने तुझे गलत इरादे से कभी छूआ नही मतलब वो प्यार करता हैं ऐसा नही हैं. तो छोकरा.. काय नाव? हं.. आदी. त्यानेही आजवर तुला कधी स्पर्श केला नाही. याचा अर्थ तोही तुझ्यावर प्रेम उधळतो असा होतो का?” कुत्सितपणे हसत शीलाआँटीने तिला घेऱ्यात पकडले.बिचारी चंपा! या खेपेला निरुत्तर झाली होती.दुपारी आलेल्या आदीचा चेहरा तिच्या नजरेसमोर उभा राहिला. खरंच तो इथे का येतो हेच तिला कळत नव्हतं. केवळ त्याचं तिला निहारत राहणं..! बरं, त्या नजरेत वासनेचा लवलेशही नसायचा आणि प्रेम म्हणावं तर तेही कुठे दिसले नव्हते. काही विचारले तर ठरलेले उत्तर की सौंदर्य केवळ नजरेत साठवायचे असते, स्पर्श करून गढूळ करायचे नसते.. असं काहीसं.प्रकाश आणि आदीची तुलना होऊ शकत नव्हती. प्रकाश तिच्यासाठी काय होता हे तिचं तिलाच माहित. शीलाआँटी नशेत बरळत होती म्हणून नाही तर त्याच्याविरुद्ध एक शब्दही तिने ऐकून घेतला नसता.
आलेले रडू आवरत ती उठून उभी झाली तसे शीलाआँटीने खेचून तिला खाली बसवले.“मेरी जान, गुस्सा हो गयी क्या?”“शीलाआँटी, बस ना आता. तू झोप बघू. तुला आरामाची गरज आहे.”“अहं. गरज तुला आहे, ऐकण्याची.” रिकामी बाटली बाजूला ठेवत ती म्हणाली.“सुन, तुला तुझा इथला पहिला दिवस आठवतो का? इथे तू आलीस तेव्हा कशी होतीस चंपा? उलट मलाही ते आठवलं की अंगावर काटा येतो रे. इथल्या प्रत्येकीची एक कहाणी आहे. प्रत्येकीच्या कहानीचा वेगळाच दर्द; पण शेवट मात्र एकच. इथे आलेल्या मर्दाचे बिस्तर गरम करणं!इथे एकदा का पोरगी आली की मग या फेऱ्यातून तिची सुटका नाही. तुझीही झाली नाही.. आणि मी पहिल्यांदा इथं आले तेव्हा माझीही झाली नव्हती.” तिच्या डोळ्यातील एक खारा थेंब अलगद गालावर आला.चढली की ती बोलेल, बडबड करेल, कोणाला कायकाय सुनावेल पण डोळ्यात पाणी आलेलं यापूर्वी चंपाने कधी तिला पाहिले नव्हते.“शीलाआँटी..”“चंपा, मै कैसी भी हूं पर हूं तो एक औरत ही ना? माझ्या छातीत असलेला दिल पूर्वी कोणासाठी तरी धडकायचा आणि आता पत्थरदिल झालीये ही शीला. कारण ठाऊक आहे? तुला वाटतं ते प्रेम.प्यार..!बहोत प्यार करती थी मै उससे. वो बोला चल भाग चलते. शादी करेंगे. मी वेडी त्याच्या शब्दात अडकले आणि घरून निघाले. लग्न करून दोन दिवसांनी परत येऊ असं तो म्हणाला होता ते पटले होते. गुजरातमधल्या एका खेड्यातून आलेली मी. चमचमते मुंबई शहर बघून हरखून गेले होते.एका मंदिरमध्ये त्याने माझ्या गळ्यात मंगळसूत्र बांधलं. म्हणाला, हो गई शादी. उशीर झालाय तर इथल्या हॉटेलमध्ये रात्र काढू आणि सकाळी गावाला जाऊ.
मोठया हॉटेल मधला मऊ मऊ गादीचा बेड.. किती वेळा इकडून तिकडं मी लोळून पाहिलं असेल. दोन मिनिटात येतो म्हणून तो बाहेर गेला आणि पंधरा मिनिटांनी दरवाजा उघडला. मी आनंदाने त्याच्या मिठीत शिरणार होते तेव्हा जाणवलं की खोलीत कोणीतरी दुसरंच आहे. मी घाबरले, भांबावले त्याच्या नावाने किती हाका मारल्या.. कुछ फायदा नही हुआ. त्यानं त्या माणसाला मला विकली होती. माझा सौदा केला होता.रात्रभर त्याने माझ्यावर अत्याचार केला आणि सकाळच्या ट्रेनने इथं नाशिकमध्ये घेऊन आला. शालिमार गल्लीतल्या याचं कोठीवर. त्यानं मला इथल्या रुक्सारमौसीला विकलं होतं. मौसी कसली? सैतान होती ती. खूप छळायची, राबवून घ्यायची. आमच्या सुखदुःखाची तिला काहीच पडली नसायची.एक दिवस आम्ही सगळ्यांनी मिळून तिचा काटा काढला. पुरा काम तमाम! उसके खून से रंगी हुई छुरी मेरे हात में थी तो सबने मुझे ही मुखीया बना डाला. सात साल पहले अपने आशिकसे धोका खाकर यहाँ आनेवाली एक नादान लडकी सात साल में ईस कोठे की रानी हो गई और शीला से शीलाआँटी! ती पुन्हा मोठयाने हसली.“रुक्सारमौसीला सगळ्यांनी फक्त नफरत केली. मला मात्र प्रेम मिळालं. मैत्रिणी मिळाल्या. मी कोणावर धंद्यासाठी जोर-जबरदस्ती केली नाही. ज्यांना त्यांच्या मुलखात परत जायचं होतं त्यांना स्वतः धाडलं. पण ज्यांना त्यांचं कुटुंब स्विकार करू शकले नसते त्या आमच्यासारख्याच काय? ये कोठीही हमारा घर और शरीर बेचनाही हमारा पर्मनंट धंदा हो गया. मुड हो या ना हो; करना तो पडता हैं. पापी पेट का सवाल जो था.”
“शीलाआँटी, इतक्या वर्षात तुझी ही बाजू मला ठाऊकच नव्हती गं.” तिची कहाणी ऐकून चंपाचे डोळे द्रवले.“मी सांगितलंच नाही तर कसं कळणार?” शीलाआँटी फिकटशी हसली.“वीस वर्षांपूर्वी तू इथे आलीस. तुला पाहिले आणि मला मीच आठवले. सुंदर, नाजूक, शून्यात हरवलेली. त्यामुळे तुझ्यावर माझा जास्तच जीव बसला. इथे येणाऱ्या गिऱ्हाईकांची तू पहिली पसंत बनू लागलीस आणि मग माझीही.सोने का अंडा देनेवाली मुर्गी जो थी. आज भी हो. वो आदी.. वो तो सिर्फ तुम्हारी सुरत देखने के मुहमांगे दाम दे जाता हैं. पगला कही का.” हसता हसता तिचे डोळे बरसायला लागले.“मी सोन्याचं अँड देणारी कोंबडी आहे म्हणून माझ्यावर जीव टाकतेस?”“और नहीं तो क्या?” डोळे पुसत तिने चंपावर नजर रोखली. “नहीं रे पगली, तू सच्ची में पसंद हैं मुझे. तेरी बात ही कुछ अलग हैं. तुझी ही स्पेशल खोली, हे झिरझीरीत पडदे, तुझ्या उंची उंची साड्या, हा थाटबाट..चालीस के उमर में भी बीस साल के लडके को यहाँ लाने की नजाकत.. सब सब पसंद हैं मुझे.पसंद नहीं हैं तो ये तेरे आँखोमें दिखनेवाला प्यार.. तेरे उस डॉक्टरके लिये जो प्यार उमड रहा हैं ना वो मुझे बिलकुल पसंद नहीं.ज्या मुलामुळे तू इथे अडकली गेलीस, त्याच्यावर प्रेम करण्याची इजाजत.. तुला कधीच मिळणार नाही.”“शीलाआँटी..”“तुला भूक लागली असेल ना? ये मी तुला भरवते.” चपातीचा घास तिच्या ओठाजवळ नेत शीलाआँटी म्हणाली.“चंपा, तुझे मै तेरे माँ जैसे लगती ना? तो सुन, एक आई आपल्या मुलीला कोठ्यावर बसवेल की नाही माहित नाही; पण ज्या मुलामुळे कोठ्यावर यावं लागलं त्याला तिच्या दिलात बसवण्याची इजाजत कधीच देणार नाही. मै भी नहीं दूंगी, ये गाठ बांध ले.” शीलाआँटीचा स्वर हळवा झाला आणि चंपा तिच्या कुशीत शिरली.दोघींच्या डोळ्यातून धारा बरसत होत्या.. कितीतरी वेळ!:क्रमश:पुढील भाग लवकरच.©®Dr. Vrunda F.(वसुंधरा..)*साहित्यचोरी गुन्हा आहे.******
