अबोल प्रेम

 खूप दिवसांनी शकुंतलाची मैत्रीण राखीकडे आली होती. राखीने तर मुक्कामालाच बोलवलं होतं, शाळेतल्या मैत्रिणी दोघी. एकमेकांना सगळं सांगत असत, पण कोलेजनंतर वाटा वेगळ्या झाल्या, फोनवर तरी भेटल्याचा आनंद कितीसा मिळणार? म्हणूनच कामानिमित्त शकुंतलाचं राखीच्या शहरी येणं झालं, शकुंतलाच्या नवऱ्याला रखीच्याच शहरात बिझनेस मिट होती, राखीने स्पष्ट सांगितलं की काही हॉटेल वैगेरे बुक करायचं नाही, आपला चांगला 3 bhk फ्लॅट आहे, 1 पूर्ण खोली तुमची असेल. 

खूप आग्रहास्तव शकुंतला आणि तिचे मिस्टर राघव तयार झाले. राखीला फक्त एकाच गोष्टीचं टेन्शन, राखीचा नवरा जयंत, अत्यंत मितभाषी, फार कमी बोलणारा आणि मनातलं समोरच्याच्या कळू न देणारा. अर्थात त्याला पाहुणे येण्याबद्दल काही तक्रार नव्हती, तसा तो खूप मदत करणारा होता पण शकुंतला आणि तिच्या नवऱ्यासमोर हा असा शांत बसून राहिला तर त्यांना काय वाटेल?

ठरलेल्या दिवशी शकुंतला आणि तिचा नवरा घरी आले, राघव अजून ऑफिसमधून आला नव्हता. राघवने आल्या आल्या मोकळेपणाने गप्पा मारल्या..

“शाळेतल्या मैत्रिणी म्हणे तुम्ही, आमची ही फार आगाऊ असेल ना वहिनी? आताही तेवढाच आगाऊपणा करते म्हणा..मी आहे म्हणून, नाहीतर ..”

“नाहीतर काय हो? नशीब समजा माझ्यासारखी बायको मिळाली ते..”

नवरा बायकोचे गोड वाद सुरू होते, रखीला ते पाहून हेवा वाटू लागला, जयंत माझ्यासोबत कधीच इतकं मोकळेपणाने बोलला नाही. राघव इतका बोलका आणि जयंत हा असा..काय वाटेल माझ्या मैत्रिणीला अन तिच्या नवऱ्याला.

संध्याकाळी जयंत घरी आला, राघव आणि शकुंतलाकडे बघून त्याने स्मितहास्य केलं आणि आत निघून गेला. शकुंतला आणि राघवला जरा विचित्रच वाटलं. खूप वेळाने जयंत बाहेर आला आणि राखीला म्हणाला, 

“सामानाची पिशवी आणली आहे, तेवढं फक्त रचून दे..”

“शकू चल आत, या दोघांना गप्पा मारू देत..”

जयंत राघवला म्हणाला..

“आपण घरात बसून काय करणार, चला तुम्हाला फिरवून आणतो..”

राखीला जरा बरं वाटलं. ते दोघेही बाहेर गेले. राखी स्वयंपाकाला लागली..

“राखी काय काय करायचं आहे मला सांग, मी मदत करते..”

“अजिबात नाही हं.. मी करेन सगळं..”

“अगं मी बसून बसून काय करू? काहीतरी काम दे की मला..”

“बरं एक काम कर, यांनी भाजीपाला आणला असेल आणि अजून काही सामान असेल..तेवढं काढून ठेव फक्त आणि फ्रीज मध्ये ठेऊन दे..”

शकुंतलाने पिशवी घेतली आणि एकेक सामान बाहेर काढू लागली..

“हे काय, एक किलो बीट? याची भाजी करतेस की काय तू?”

“यांचं काहीएक कळत नाही बघ, दरवेळी इतकं बीट आणून ठेवतात..त्यांना आवडत मात्र नाही हा..शेवटी मलाच काहीतरी करून खावं लागतं..”

शकूने एकेक सामान बाहेर काढलं, भाजीपाला फ्रीज मध्ये ठेऊन दिला, काही भाज्या निवडायला घेतल्या..दुसऱ्या पिशवीतीलं सामान बाहेर काढलं..

“हे काय आहे गं?”

“बघू?”

“ही इलेक्ट्रिक पिशवी आहे, अंग शेकायची..”

“त्यांना पाठीचा त्रास आहे का?”

“नाही गं.. देव जाणे कशाला इतका खर्च करतात, काय गरज होती बरं याची? नवीन काही दिसलं की आणलं उचलून..”

राखीने स्वयंपाक केला..शकुंतला आणि राघव non veg चे शौकीन, त्यांच्यासाठी राखीने मस्त पांढरा आणि तांबडा रस्सा बनवला होता. राघव आणि जयंत घरी आले, राघव जाम खुश दिसत होता..

“वहिनी, तुमचे मिस्टर म्हणजे अगदी देवमाणूस बरं का..यांच्यासमोर माझे सगळे मित्र फिके पडले..”

“हे जरा जास्तच बडबड करताय आज, काय झालं यांना अचानक?” शकू मनाशीच पुटपुटली..

सर्वांची जेवणं उरकत आली होती, जयंत उठून बाहेर गेला अन राखी पाणी आणायला आत गेली, पाणी आणून येत असतानाच तिला दिसलं की राघव चोरून लपून शकुला घास भरवतोय आणि शकू नुसती लाजतेय..

“अगं खा पटकन..”

“अहो काय हे, आपण कुठे आलोय भान ठेवा..”

“माझ्या बायकोलाच तर भरवतोय..”

राखी पुन्हा मागे झाली अन दोघांचा कार्यक्रम सम्पला लक्षात येताच समोर आली. जेवण झाल्यावर सर्वजण झोपायला गेले. शकू आणि राघवला एक स्पेशल खोली देण्यात आली होती. शकू पाणी घ्यायला किचन मध्ये आली तेव्हा जयंत दोन ग्लास मध्ये आवळा ज्यूस बनवत होता, राखी तिथे न जाता बाल्कनी मध्ये गेली..

“शकू? झोपली नाहीस गं?”

“झोप येत नाहीये गं.. तुला झोप येत असेल तर झोप तू..”

“बरं झालं मला जोडी मिळाली, मलाच कुठे झोप येतेय, आपण गप्पा मारुया बस..”

दोघीजणी ठाण मांडून बसतात, आता काही रात्रभर तिथून उठणार नव्हत्या. भरपूर गप्पा झाल्या, शकूने शेवटी मनातली सल राखीला सांगितली..

“तुझा नवरा किती प्रेमळ, बोलका आहे गं.. किती प्रेम करतो तुझ्यावर.. जयंत कडे बघ, नुसता दगड..काहीच भावना नाहीत या माणसाला..फक्त घरी यायचं, थोडंफार सामान आणायचं, इकडे तिकडे बघायचं आणि सम्पला दिवस..तुझ्या सारखा प्रेमाने कधी घास भरवला नाही त्याने..”

“म्हणजे तू बघितलं होतं? चोरटी कुठली..”

“मी गपचूप मागे झाले, पण पाहिलं हो तुमचं प्रेम..”

शकूने सगळं ऐकून घेतलं..राखीने मनातली सगळी गरळ आज ओकून टाकली..शकू शांतपणे राखीला सांगू लागली..

“दुसऱ्याचं बघून आपलं तसं का नाही असं वाटणं साहजिकच आहे..पण आपल्याकडे जे आहे तेही दुसऱ्याकडे नसतंच की..”

“म्हणजे?”

“तू नीट निरीक्षण केलं नाहीस का जयंतच्या वागण्याकडे? त्याने आज काय काय सामान आणलेलं..तो एक किलो बीट आणतो..का माहितीये? कॉलेजात असताना रक्तदानाच्या वेळी तुझं रक्त घ्यायला नकार मिळालेला, कारण तुलाच hb लेव्हल खूप कमी होती. नंतर तुम्ही कधी टेस्ट केली असेल अन जयंतला ते समजलं असेल..तुझं रक्त वाढावं म्हणून त्याला आवडत नसतांना तो बीट आणतो, कारण त्याला माहितीये की त्याने खाल्लं नाही तर तू ते वाया जाऊ देणार नाहीस आणि तुझी hb लेव्हलही वाढेल..”

“अरेच्या, मला आजवर हे लक्षात का आलं नाही?”

“आणि अजून एक..तुझी तारीख कधी असते?”

“उद्याच आहे बघ..”

“शाळेत तुला किती त्रास व्हायचा त्या दिवसांचा माहितीये मला..जयंतलाही माहितीये.. तुझ्या पोटाला आणि पाठीला शेक मिळावा म्हणून त्याने ती शेकायची बॅग आणलीय, आणि आजच का आणली? कारण तुझी डेट उद्या आहे हे माहितीये त्याला..जेवण झाल्यावर त्याने एकट्यासाठी आवळापाणी नाही बनवलं, दोन ग्लास बनवलं आणि एक तुला खोलीत दिलं.. बरोबर ना?”

राखीच्या डोळ्यातून पाणी येऊ लागलं..

“खरच यांचं हे अबोल प्रेम माझ्या लक्षात कसं आलं नाही?”

“हे बघ राखी, प्रत्येक नवऱ्याचा आपल्या बायकोवर तितकाच जीव असतो..पण प्रत्येकाची ती व्यक्त करण्याची तऱ्हा वेगळी असते..कुणी बोलून व्यक्त करतं, कुणी काळजी घेऊन तर कुणी कृतीतून.. पण केवळ दुसऱ्याचं तसं आहे म्हणून आपली बाजू कमकुवत असं नसतं गं..”

राखीचे डोळे आज शकूने उघडले होते, आजवर अबोल, दगड समजणाऱ्या नवऱ्या मधला प्रेमळ स्वभाव तिला समजला होता..गप्पा मारून दोघी आपापल्या खोलीत जातात, जयंतने राखी येताच टेबल लॅम्प सुरू केला..राखीला हेही आज समजलं, की टेबल लॅम्प शिवाय राखीला झोप येत नाही आणि जयंतला पूर्ण अंधार लागतो.. पण केवळ राखी साठी जयंत ने त्याची सवय करून घेतलेली..

आज शकूमुळे जयंतच्या प्रेमाची तिला नव्याने जाणीव झाली होती..

दुसऱ्या दिवशी शकू आणि राघवने दोघांचा निरोप घेतला..राघव सारखी जयंतची गळाभेट घेत होता..दोघेही निघून गेल्यावर राखीने जयंतला विचारलं..

“इतका का खुश होता तो तुमच्यावर? काल कुठे घेऊन गेलेले त्याला???”

जयंतने सवयीप्रमाणे फक्त स्मितहास्य केलं..आता राखीलाच हे गूढ उकलून काढायचं होतं..खूप विचारांती तिच्या लक्षात आलं, सकाळी सकाळी शकू राघव साठी लिंबूपाणी मागायला का आलेली ते…जयंतला मात्र त्याची गरज पडली नव्हती..अन खोलीत कसला सुगंधही जाणवला नव्हता..

तुम्हाला कळलं राघव जयंत वर इतका खुश का होता ते?
