“हॅलो.. ओवी…काय गं… नेमकं काय झालंय?” समरने विचारले.”अहो काळजी करण्यासारखं एवढं काही झालं नाही वकीलसाहेब. तुम्ही नका टेन्शन घेऊ.””अगं पण सांग तरी ओवी. इकडे आम्हाला दोघांनाही खूप टेन्शन आलंय गं.””बरं..सांगते. अहो, थोड्या वेळापूर्वी एक टू व्हिलरवाला येऊन धडकला मला. त्यामुळे गाडी स्लीप होऊन मी खाली पडले. डाव्या हाताला मार लागलाय थोडा. पण डोन्ट वरी आता दवाखान्यातच आहे मी. जस्ट ड्रेसिंग झालंय. मेडिकल मधून औषधं घेऊन निघणारच आहे मी लगेच.””ओवी तू तिथेच थांब आम्ही येतोय तिकडे लगेच.” समर म्हणाला.”नाही…त्याची काही आवश्यकता नाहीये. मी ठीक आहे आता.””आता तू काहीही बोलू नकोस, आम्ही येतोय लगेच.” असे म्हणून समरने फोन ठेवला.”समर काय झालंय?” काळजीच्या सुरात कार्तिकीने विचारले.
घडलेला सर्व प्रकार समरने मग कार्तिकीला सांगितला. लगेचच त्याने गाडी काढली आणि दोघेही ओवीकडे जायला निघाले.”तरी मी म्हणत होते तिला, तू थांब आमच्यासोबत; पण ही मुलगी ऐकेल तर शप्पथ. आधीच आपलं लग्न पंधरा दिवसांवर आलंय. त्यात हे असं. आता आई, छोटी आई, आजी सगळे मिळून आमची शाळाच घेतील बघ तू.””आता तू पॅनिक होवू नकोस. शांत हो बरं. होईल सगळं ठीक. उलट आहे त्यापेक्षा जास्त काही घडलं नाही यातच देवाचे आभार मानायचे.””हो ना.”थोड्याच वेळात समर आणि कार्तिकी ओवीने दिलेल्या पत्त्यावर पोहोचले. गाडी पार्क करून दोघेही दवाखान्याच्या आत गेले.”ओवी…काय हे! कसं झालं गं असं?” काळजीच्या सुरात कार्तिकीने विचारले.”अगं जास्त काही नाही, काळजी करू नकोस.””आणि कोण होता तो? असा कसा येवून धडकला तुला?””काय माहिती.. कसली घाई होती त्याला. मला ओव्हरटेक करून पुढे जायच्या नादात धडकला.””अगं पण तू त्याला जाऊच कसं दिलं. दोन द्यायच्या ना ठेवून त्याच्या.”
“अगं बाई लोकांनी त्याला ट्रॅफिक पोलिसांच्या ताब्यात दिलं ते पाहून घेतील काय करायचं ते. जाऊ दे तसंही काही गोष्टी घडायच्या असल्या की त्या घडतातच.””ओवी.. अगं किती लागलंय पण ते. किती मोठं बँडेज बांधलंय त्यावरूनच अंदाज येतोय. घरी गेल्यावर आपलं काही खरं नाही आता.””जाऊ दे आता तो विचारच करु नकोस. जे होईल ते होईल. पाहू तेव्हाचं तेव्हा.”
“अगं पण ओवी. आता गाडी नाही चालवता येणार तुला.” समर म्हणाला.”येईल की त्यात काय अवघड आहे. एवढ्या तेवढ्याने काही होत नाही ओ मला. तसंही उजवा हात चांगला आहे ना. चालवेल मी बरोबर.””वेड लागलंय का ओवी तुला? ह्या अशा अवस्थेत तू गाडी चालवणार आहेस?” काळजीपोटी समर बोलला.”हो मग काय झालं त्यात?””एक काम कर कार्तिकी घेईल गाडी तू मागे बस.””ह्ममम…मला वेड लागलंय हिच्यापाठी बसायला. म्हणजे दुसरा ॲक्सिडेंट फिक्स समजायचा.” हसतच ओवी बोलली.”ओवी… अगं काय हे! समर समोर माझी इज्जत नको काढूस गं.” हळू आवाजात ओवीच्या कानात कार्तिकी बोलली.
“जे खरं ते मी बोलले आणि हे तुलाही माहितीये आणि नसेलच तुला मान्य करायचं तर मग ही घे गाडीची चावी. मी घेते तुझ्यापाठी बसण्याची रिस्क.” खोचकपणे ओवी बोलली.”काही नको. राहू दे तुझ्याकडेच. मला भीती वाटते.” कार्तिकीनेही तिची भीती मान्य केली.”काही कोणी गाडी घेऊ नका मी सोडतो तुम्हाला घरी… चला.””अहो वकिलसाहेब, काळजी करू नका, खरंच मी तुमच्या बायकोला व्यवस्थित घेऊन जाईल. विश्वास ठेवा माझ्यावर.” ओवीने जणू समरला टोमणा मारला.”काय हे ओवी… कार्तिकीची एकटीचीच नाही तर तुमच्या दोघींचीही काळजी आहे मला म्हणून मी बोलतोय. समजलं…””पण खरंच आम्ही जाऊ व्यवस्थित. डोन्ट वरी.””नक्की ना?””हो… य….नक्की.””ओके चालेल काही हरकत नाही.””अरे पण जेवणाचं कसं करायचं, तुम्हाला दोघींना भूक नाही लागली का? काहीतरी खाऊन घेता का आधी.” समरने विचारले.”नाही नको, आधी आपण घरी जाऊयात ओवी. आधीच मला खूप टेन्शन आलंय. तू पण थोडं समजून घे ना समर.”

चला आता उगीच वाद घालत बसू नका. गाडी राहू दे इथेच. ते बघ तिथे समोरच हॉटेल आहे. चला जाऊयात.”समर मग दोघींनाही घेऊन हॉटेलमधे गेला. त्यांच्या आवडीप्रमाणे सर्व ऑर्डर केले. जेवण झाल्यावर सगळे घरी जायला निघाले.”सावकाश जा ओवी आणि आजूबाजूला लक्ष ठेव. हात सांभाळून गाडी चालव.” काळजीपोटी समर बोलला.”पण काहीही म्हणा वकीलसाहेब..आजचा दिवस मी कधीही विसरणार नाही.””धन्य आहेस बाई तू… कमालच वाटते तुझी मला. शेवटी तू तुझंच खरं केलंस. जा आता सावकाश आणि घरी पोहोचल्यावर मेसेज नाहीतर कॉल करा मला.””होय… चला निघू आता आम्ही.” ओवी म्हणाली.”हो… जा सावकाश. बाय कार्तिकी.” कार्तिकीकडे पाहून समर बोलला.”बाय…” म्हणत कार्तिकिनेही समरकडे पाहून मग गोड स्माईल दिली. खरंतर दोघेही त्यांची ही आजची भेट कधीही विसरणार नव्हते.ओवी आणि कार्तिकी फायनली समरचा निरोप घेऊन घरी जायला निघाल्या. त्या दोघी गेल्यानंतर समरदेखील घरी गेला. कार्तिकीचा चेहरा काही केल्या समरच्या डोळ्यासमोरून जायलाच तयार नव्हता. दिवसभरातील सर्व आठवणी आठवून त्याच्या चेहऱ्यावर आपसूकच स्मित फुलले.तिकडे कार्तिकी मात्र खूपच टेन्शनमध्ये होती. घरी काय आणि कसे उत्तर द्यायचे हेच तिला समजत नव्हते. ओवीची अवस्था पाहून घरचे एक ना अनेक प्रश्न विचारणार आणि या सर्व प्रश्नांचा सामना करताना आणखी खोटं बोलून चालणार नव्हतं. याची दोघींनाही कल्पना होती. आधीच एक खोटं लपविण्यासाठी खूप वेळा खोटं बोलावं लागलं होतं त्यांना. हे आता इथेच थांबायला हवंय. दोघींनीही विचार करून खरे सांगण्याचा विचार अखेर फायनल केला.क्रमशःआता घरच्यांच्या प्रश्नांचा सामना कसा करणार ओवी आणि कार्तिकी?
