ठरल्याप्रमाणे दुसऱ्या दिवशी सकाळी छान आवरुन कार्तिकी आणि ओवी दोघीही बहिणी बाहेर जायला निघाल्या. तोच माधवी ताईंनी दोघींनीही हटकले.”काय गं ओवी…नक्की आज तुला कॉलेज आहे ना?” माधवी ताईंनी ओवीला विचारले.”कॉलेज नाही गं.. प्रॅक्टिकल आहे आज. “”मग कार्तिकी पण तुझ्यासोबत प्रॅक्टिकल करणार आहे वाटतं? तुला तर सुट्टी आहे ना कार्तिकी, मग तू हिच्यासोबत कुठे निघालीस?””तू पण ना काकी. मी म्हटलं होतं ना तुला..आम्हाला शॉपिंग करायची आहे म्हणून. माझं प्रॅक्टिकल एक तासात संपेल. तोपर्यंत ती तिच्या मैत्रिणी सोबत थोडीफार शॉपिंग करेल. मग राहिलेली शॉपिंग करायला मी येईलच.””बरं बरं…पण काय गं कार्तिकी नक्की शॉपिंगलाच चालली आहेस ना? नाही म्हणजे एरव्हीपेक्षा आज जरा जास्तच तयार झालीस, म्हणून म्हटलं बाकी काही नाही.” माधवी ताईंच्या प्रश्नावर कार्तिकीला आता काय आणि कसं रिॲक्ट व्हावं तेच कळेना.
“अगं काकी तिला मीच सांगितलं तयार व्हायला. खरेदी करताना ह्या गोष्टी खूप मॅटर करतात गं. तुमच्याकडे पाहूनच दुकानदाराला समोरच्या व्यक्तीची चॉईस समजते आणि त्या पद्धतीच्या वस्तू तो दाखवतो. कारण एखाद्या व्यक्तीकडे पाहून दुकानदाराला त्याची आवड लक्षात येत असते.”ओवीने लगेचच कार्तिकीची बाजू सांभाळण्याचा पुरेपूर प्रयत्न केला.”हो गं..हे मात्र खरं आहे बरं का तुझं ओवी. एकदा मी एकदम साधी साडी नेसून साडीच्या दुकानात साडी खरेदीला गेले. ते लोक काय समजले मला कोणास ठाउक, पण चांगल्या साड्याच दाखवेनात गं. एकदम कमी रेंजच्या आणि लो क्वालिटीच्या साड्या त्यांनी माझ्यासमोर टाकल्या. तेव्हा मला तर खूपच कसंतरी फील झालं होतं. त्यानंतर मात्र मी ही गोष्ट लक्षातच ठेवली.” माधवी ताईंनी त्यांचा जुना अनुभव सांगितला. एकंदरीतच त्यांना ओवीचे म्हणणे पटले होते.”अगं काकी मलाही आलाय असा अनुभव. जरा व्यवस्थित गेलं ना की ते दुकानदारही भरभर काम करतात. जास्त वेट पण करायला लागत नाहीत. नाहीतर लक्षच देत नाहीत.”ओवी म्हणाली.
“बरं जा तुम्ही आणि जास्त टाईमपास करत बसू नका आणि ओवी.. तू कॉलेजचे काम संपल्यावर लवकर ये तिच्या मदतीसाठी.””हो गं…तू टेन्शन नको घेऊ. बरं येऊ आता आम्ही?”म्हणत ओवी आणि कार्तिकी फायनली घराबाहेर पडल्या.”बापरे! ओवी अगं खोटं बोलणं सोप्पं नाहीये गं. एक खोटं बोललं की त्यापाठी दहादा खोटं बोलावं लागतं, असं मी फक्त ऐकून होते पण आज प्रत्यक्षात ते अनुभवलं. तुला तरी वेळ मारुन नेता येते बाई, मला तर बिलकुल जमत नाही असे.””ये शहाणे! म्हणजे मी खोटं बोलण्यात पीएचडी केलीये असं म्हणायचंय का तुला?”
“तसं नाही गं, वेळच आलीच तर आपले म्हणणे पटवून देता यायला हवे ना. ते तुला बरोबर जमते. असे म्हणायचे होते मला.””तू काहीही म्हण, पण हे सगळं फक्त आणि फक्त तुझ्यासाठी केलंय मी हे विसरू नकोस. मी समजू शकते तुमच्या भावना.””तुला गं कसं माहीत, लग्न ठरल्यावर काय भावना असतात ते?” खोचकपणे कार्तिकीने विचारले.”आलं मनात पाप, पण तरी ऐक….आजकाल काही गोष्टी समजायला लग्नच व्हावं लागतं असं काही नाही बरं का दी. पण हल्ली तूही खूपच चावट होत चाललीस हे मात्र अगदी खरं. आजकाल बरेच काय काय प्रश्न पडत असतात तुला.””हो का…पण असं खोटं बोलण्याचा फायदा तुला पुढे होईलच की.””हो ना मॅडम..त्यासाठीच ट्रेनिंग घेत आहे मी. धन्य आहात तुम्ही. बरं चला आता आणि वकील साहेबांना फोन करून सांग. वीस पंचवीस मिनिटात पोहोचतो म्हणून आणि वेळेवर आलात तर ठीक नाहीतर आम्ही निघून जाऊ म्हणावं.” पार्किंग मधून स्कूटी काढत ओवी म्हणाली.
“नाही आ ओवी… असं काहीही नाही सांगणार मी. आज त्यांना कितीही उशीर झाला तरी चालेल पण काहीही झाले तरी आज भेटणारच आहे मी त्यांना.””अरे वा…हे बेस्ट आहे बरं का. आवडले मला. असा हक्क देखील दाखवता यायलाच हवा. आणि नवऱ्यावर तर हवाच हवा.””हो ना गं. बरं थांब, मी समरला फोन करून सांगते आम्ही घरुन निघालो म्हणून.”कार्तिकीने लगेचच समरला कॉल केला.”ओके…मग मीही पोहोचतोच.” लगेचच समर उत्तरला.”काहीही म्हण दी..पण आज तुझ्या समरची विकेट पडणार आज, बघच तू. खूप गोड दिसत आहेस तू. तुला माझीच दृष्ट नको लागायला.””गप गं. असं नाही होत काही.””आणि आणखी एक, तिथे आजूबाजूला कितीही गर्दी असली तरी तिथे फक्त तुम्ही दोघेच आहात, असे समजून एकदम फ्रीली बोला. अजिबात कोणाचा विचार करू नका. छान एन्जॉय करा.””पण मग तू कुठे जाणार? थांबणार नाहीस तू आमच्यासोबत?””वेड लागलंय मला?””अगं पण मी तर समजत होते तू थांबणार आहेस आमच्यासोबत.””कशी गं तू अशी. माझं काय काम तिथे? लग्न तुमच्या दोघांचं आहे. आयुष्याची सुरुवात करण्याआधी असं भेटलं पाहिजे गं. भेटण्यातून आणि बोलण्यातून खऱ्या अर्थाने माणूस कळतो आणि नात्यात ओढही असतेच ना. सद्ध्या हेच तुमचे दिवस आहेत. त्यामुळे भेटा, छान गप्पा मारा, एकमेकांचा हात हातात घ्या, एकाच कप मधून आईस्क्रीम खा, एक गोळा दोघांनी मिळून शेअर करा. हेच खरे दिवस आहेत. जगून घ्या. एकदा का लग्न झालं की मग ह्याच सोनेरी आठवणी पुन्हा पुन्हा आठवायच्या आणि नात्यातील प्रेम कायमस्वरूपी कसे वाढेल याचा विचार करायचा.”
ओवीचे बोलणे थांबूच नये असे कार्तिकीला वाटत होते. ओवी बोलत होती पण कार्तिकी मात्र प्रत्येक गोष्ट फील करत होती. फक्त विचारानेच तिच्या अंगावर शहारे उमटत होते.”ओवी…किती गोड आहेस ग तू. एखाद्याचे मन किती पटकन् ओळखता येते तुला. पण मला माहित नाही आज मी कसं फेस करेल समरला. भिती वाटतिये ग खूप.””हे बघ हे असं असतं तुझं… अगं इतर कुठलाही विचार करू नकोस. तुझ्या होणाऱ्या नवऱ्यालाच तर भेटत आहेस तू. कशाला इतकं घाबरायचं. समर खूप चांगला मुलगा आहे गं. आयुष्यभर पुरतील अशा खूप साऱ्या आठवणींची साठवण करा आज. एकमेकांसोबत छान वेळ घालवा.””आणि तू… तू समरला भेटणार नाहीस का ओवी?””भेटेल गं…पाच दहा मिनिट थांबेल आणि जाईल. नंतर तुला घ्यायला येईलच की.””ओवी… पोटात गोळा आलाय गं माझ्या. तू थांब ना पण माझ्यासोबत. मला काहीच प्रॉब्लेम नाहीये आणि मला खात्री आहे समरला सुद्धा काहीच प्रॉब्लेम नसेल.””वेडीयेस का गं. चूप..एकदम चूप बस. अजिबात तेच तेच बोलू नकोस आता.”बोलता बोलता दोघीही ठरलेल्या ठिकाणी पोहोचल्या. सारस बागेच्या मेन गेट समोर येऊन दोघीही थांबल्या.”उतरा मॅडम आणि तुझ्या समरला फोन कर. तो कधी पोहोचतोय विचार जरा. तोपर्यंत मी गाडी पार्क करते.”कार्तिकीने लगेचच समरला फोन केला.”आम्ही पोहोचलो इथे..तुला किती वेळ लागेल अजून?””पाचच मिनिटात पोहोचतो.””दी गणपती मंदिरात यायला सांग त्यांना. आधी गणपती बाप्पाचे दर्शन घेऊ.” बाजूने ओवी बोलली.”समर..””हो ऐकलं…गणपती मंदिरात येतो मी. तुम्ही थांबा तिथेच.””हो या लवकर.” असे म्हणून कार्तिकीने फोन ठेवला.”चल तोपर्यंत आपण दर्शन घेऊ. हवंतर वकील साहेब आल्यानंतर पुन्हा जोडीने दर्शन घ्या.””गप गं.””गप गं काय… खरंच बोलत आहे मी. पुढील आयुष्यासाठी जोडीने आशीर्वाद घ्या बाप्पाचा.””ओवी..आजूबाजूला बघ ना किती गर्दी आहे अगं.””हो असणारच…आज संडे आहे ना म्हणून. आज सगळ्यांचा भेटीचा दिवस असणार.””काहीही म्हण ओवी…मला ना ह्या बागेतील सर्वात जास्त आवडणारी एखादी गोष्ट असेल ना तर ती म्हणजे ह्या तळ्यातले रंगीबेरंगी कमळ. बघ ना किती सुंदर दिसत आहेत.””आज सांग मग तुझ्या समरला तुझ्या आवडीचे एखादे फुल तोडून आणायला.” हसतच ओवी बोलली.”गप गं..काहीही काय बोलतेस.””हो मग त्यात काय एवढं. प्रेमात लोक असेच करतात. तुझ्यासाठी मी चंद्र, तारे तोडून आणू शकतो. असेही बोलणारे लोकही आहेत या जगात. मग तुझ्या समरला तर फक्त कमळ तर तोडायचं आहे. चंद्र ताऱ्यांपेक्षा तर ते सोपेच आहे ना.””तू पण ना ओवी…लगेच कुठून कुठे पोहोचतेस. मी नाही समरला असं काही सांगणार.””बरं नको सांगू बाई. आधी बघ मंदिरात किती गर्दी आहे.””हो गं. पण काही हरकत नाही आणि तसंही बरेच लोक दर्शन करून बसलेत. त्यामुळे होईल लगेच दर्शन.””पण काहीही म्हण दी…मंदिरात आलं की नाही खूपच प्रसन्न वाटतं बघ.””अगदी खरं. हीच तर खासियत असते प्रत्येक मंदिराची. बरं चल आधी दर्शन घेऊयात आणि मग गप्पा मारुयात.””हो चल.” म्हणत दोघीही मग पाय धुवून दर्शनासाठी मंदिरात गेल्या.दर्शन करून ओवी बाजूला झाली. सवयीप्रमाणे कार्तिकी हात जोडून आणि डोळे बंद करून थोडा वेळ बाप्पासमोर तशीच उभी राहिली. तेवढयात समर तिच्या बाजूला येऊन उभा राहिला. फायनली ओवीच्या म्हणण्याप्रमाणे दोघांनी मिळून जोडीने बाप्पाचे दर्शन घेतले. त्यांच्या भावी आयुष्यासाठी दोघांनीही मग प्रार्थना केली. ओवीच्या चेहऱ्यावर मात्र समाधानाचे हास्य फुलले.तेवढ्यात कार्तिकीने डोळे उघडले तर बाजूला समर बाप्पासमोर हात जोडून उभा होता. कार्तिकीला आश्चर्याचा सुखद धक्का बसला. समर आणि कार्तिकीची नजरानजर झाली. तत्क्षणी कार्तिकीच्या चेहऱ्यावर लाजेचे स्मित पसरले.”अरे तुम्ही केव्हा आलात?” कार्तिकीने विचारले.”आपल्या सुखी आयुष्यासाठी जेव्हा तू प्रार्थना करत होतीस तेव्हाच मी आलो.””पण आज डायरेक्ट अहो जाहो. हे काय आहे?””माहीत नाही पण समोर आल्यावर आपोआपच तोंडातून निघालं.” कार्तिकी म्हणाली.”बरं असू दे… चल डोकं टेकून नमस्कार करुयात पुन्हा एकदा.””हो… चला.” म्हणत समर आणि कार्तिकीने मग बाप्पासमोर माथा टेकवून जोडीने नमस्कार केला आणि दोघेही थोडे बाजूला झाले.लग्न ठरल्यापासून दोघेही आज पहिल्यांदा भेटत होते. भेटीची आतुरता, एकमेकांबद्दलची ओढ आणि प्रत्यक्षात भेटीचा आनंद दोघांच्याही चेहऱ्यावरून अगदी ओसंडून वाहत होता. काय बोलावे दोघांनाही समजेना. नजर चोरत कार्तिकी आणि समर इकडे तिकडे पाहू लागले. ओवीच्या हे बरोबर लक्षात आले.”हाय वकीलसाहेब. कसे आहात? आम्ही पण इथेच आहोत म्हटलं, थोडं लक्ष असू द्या आजूबाजूला.” त्यांना बोलतं करण्यासाठी ओवी बोलली.”ये हाय ओवी…मी मस्त गं, तू कशी आहेस?””मी पण मस्त. बरं चला मंदिराला प्रदक्षिणा घालून येवू आधी मग इथे बसुयात थोडा वेळ.”दर्शन करून सर्वांनी मग मंदिराला प्रदक्षिणा घातली आणि थोडा वेळ मंदिर आवारात निवांत बसले. सर्वांच्या चेहऱ्यावर अगदी प्रसन्न भाव होते.थोड्या वेळानंतर तिघेही मंदिराच्या बाहेर आले.”बरं चला वकिलसाहेब मी निघते आता. तुमच्या गप्पाटप्पा झाल्या की मला फोन करा.””ये ओवी थांब ना गं.”कार्तिकी हळूच ओवीच्या कानात बोलली.”झालं का तुझं पुन्हा सुरू? वेडीयेस का गं तू?””काय झालं? काही प्रॉब्लेम आहे का?””नाही नाही, काही प्रॉब्लेम नाही.””मग तू का लगेच निघालीस? नॉट फेअर आ ओवी. मी आलो आणि तू लगेच जायचं म्हणतेस.””मी पण तेच म्हणत होते हिला. थांब ना थोडा वेळ.””तसं नाही ओ वकील साहेब. पण आजचा दिवस तुमच्या दोघांचा आहे. सो एन्जॉय.””थांब गं थोडा वेळ… चला आधी ज्युस वगैरे घेवूयात आपण की नाश्ता करणार?””नाही नाही ज्यूस ठीक आहे. ऑलरेडी नाश्ता करूनच निघालो घरुन.””बरं चला मग ज्युस घेवूयात.”तिघेही मग ज्युस सेंटरवर गेले.”ओवी तू कोणता फ्लेवर घेणार?””माझ्यासाठी पाईनॲपल फ्लेवर.” ओवी म्हणाली.”आणि कार्तिकी तू?””मला मँगो फ्लेवर.””अरे वा.. मीही मँगो फ्लेवर घेणार आहे. आय लाईक मँगो ज्यूस. इथे आपली आवड मॅच झाली म्हणायचं.” हसतच समर बोलला.”तशा बऱ्याच गोष्टी मॅच होतात तुमच्या. हळूहळू येतील सगळ्या बाहेर.” ओवी म्हणाली.”हो का.. पण काय गं ओवी नेहमीपेक्षा आज खूपच शांत शांत आहेस तू. आज नाही का कोणती प्रश्नावली?””तुमची इच्छा असेल तर आता लगेच तयार करते. त्यात काय अवघड आहे.” ओवी उत्तरली.”नको बाई नको. आजचा संडे त्यातच जाईल नाहीतर.” घाईतच समर म्हणाला.समरचे उत्तर ऐकून कार्तिकी आणि ओवीला हसूच आवरेना.”एवढं नका हो घाबरु वकीलसाहेब. तसंही ज्युस घेतला की मी निघणारच आहे.””अगं त्या अर्थाने नाही म्हणालो मी. उगीच चुकीचा अर्थ नको घेऊस.””नाही नाही अजिबात नाही. माझं थोडं काम पण आहे आणि त्यात आमच्या आमच्या मॅडम शॉपिंगसाठी आल्यात बाहेर असं सांगितलंय घरी. मग आता तिच्या नावाने मलाच घरी दाखवण्यापुरती का होईना पण शॉपिंग करायला लागेल ना. त्यात घरी सांगितल्याप्रमाणे आज संडेला पण मला प्रॅक्टिकल आहे. सो खोटं खोटं का होईना पण कॉलेजला तर जायलाच हवं ना.””अरे देवा… अवघडच आहे मग सगळं. वाटलं नव्हतं तुम्ही दोघी एवढ्या करामती असाल. म्हणजे ही सगळी तुझीच आयडिया असेल ना ओवी?” समरने विचारले.”काहीही. तुम्ही तुमच्या बायकोला इतकंही कमी नका समजू बरं वकीलसाहेब. तिच्या सल्ल्याने मी ह्या सगळ्या थापा मारल्यात. पण काहीही म्हणा अशी नव्हती ओ माझी दी. तुमच्या सहवासाने बिघडली ती.””बरोबर आहे तुझं. घ्या ज्यूस घ्या आता.” विषय टाळत समर बोलला.”चला मी निघते आता. कॉलेजला जायचंय मला. नाहीतर पुन्हा उशीर होईल ना.””ओवी…तू काहीतरी सांगणार होतीस ना. म्हणजे तुला काहीतरी हवंय ना आमच्याकडून?””हो बरं झालं आठवण करून दिलीस. खूप महत्त्वाची गोष्ट विसरले होते मी.” ओवी म्हणाली.क्रमशःसमर आणि कार्तिकीकडे ओवी काय मागणार आता?
