व्यंकट हे सगळं ऐकतो आणि खोलीत जाऊन रडू लागतो.

कॉलेज संपून दोन वर्षे झालेली त्याला. अभ्यासात बेताचाच होता, नोकरीत नशीब साथ देत नव्हतं. एक दोन ठिकाणी नोकरी केलीसुद्धा, पण त्या कंपन्या बंद झाल्या. त्याचं काम चांगलं आणि प्रामाणिक होतं पण शेवटी कंपन्यांच्या भवितव्यावर त्याचं भवितव्य होतं.

त्याच्या गावात फारश्या कंपन्या नव्हत्या आणि बाहेरगावी काम शोधणं म्हणजे सगळाच खर्च.

आता काय करू आणि कुठे जाऊ असं त्याला झालेलं.

याच विचारात असतांना दरवाजावर एक तरुण मुलगा एक मोठी गोणी घेऊन आला, मुलाची चांगलीच तब्येत होती, त्याला धाप लागली होती.

व्यंकटने त्याला पाणी दिलं आणि ही गोणी कसली याबाबत विचारलं,

“तुमच्या गावाकडून पाठवलं आहे तुमच्या आजोबांनी… गव्हाचं पीक काढलं मग लेकीसाठी पाठवलं त्यांनी, सोबतच हा वानोळा… भाजीपाला वगैरे आहे यात..”

आई धावतच बाहेर आली,

आईला आनंद झाला, संकटाच्या वेळी देव धावून येतो तो असा..

“व्यंकटा, कोण घेऊन आलं हे?”

व्यंकटने सगळं कथन केले आणि त्या मुलाकडे बोट दाखवला,

“नमस्कार, मी गणेश..”

“तुम्ही कसे घेऊन आलात?”

“मी सर्वांनाच नेऊन देतो..”

आई आणि व्यंकटला त्याची उत्तरं कळतच नव्हती,

“हो पण तुम्ही कोण? कशावर आलात??”

“तुमच्या आजोबांच्या गावी गेलेलो, माझं सरकारी काम असतं… मी सर्वांचं बघतो ना..मग काही योजना घेऊन गावी गेलेलो..तुमच्या आजोबांशी ओळख झाली आणि त्यांना समजलं की मी या गावी येणार आहे…तर मला विनंती केली त्यांनी की एवढं माझ्या लेकीकडे पोचवा…बरं येतो मी..घाई आहे मला…”

“अहो चहा तरी घ्या…”

“नको, आज मोदकांचा नेवैद्य आहे..जावं लागेल..बाकी तुमच्या गावात कुरियरची भारीच दैना..काही पाठवायचं म्हटलं की पोस्टात जावं लागतं, पोस्ट आहे दहा कोस दूर..इथे कुरियर ऑफिस असतं तर जाम भारी झालं असतं..”

असं म्हणत मंदिराच्या दिशेने तो माणूस गेला..

“विचित्रच होता नाही?” व्यंकट आईला म्हणाला

“ते काहीही असो, देवच पावला म्हणायचा…”

पुढील काही महिन्यांचा प्रश्न सुटला…

पण अजूनही व्यंकटला नोकरी लागत नव्हती, अखेर एका कंपनीतून फोन आला

त्यांनी मुलाखतीसाठी बोलावलं,
