“तिचं कामच आहे ते..”

हे वाक्य आपल्या आईकडून मितालीला खूपदा ऐकावं लागे. आई असली तरी आपल्या वहिनी बद्दल तिला थोडंही कौतुक असू नये? हे तिला सतत वाटे.

दुपारची वेळ होती. सर्वजण जेवण करून आपापल्या खोलीत गेले. वहिनी आपली किचनमधला पसारा आवरत होती. आई बाहेर गेलीये हे लक्षात येताच मिताली वहिनीकडे गेली. कारण आई घरी असली की सहसा मितालीला वाहिनीजवळ जास्त जाऊ देत नसे, आपल्या लेकीला काही काम करावं लागेल या भीतीने. मिताली वहिनीजवळ गेली आणि विचारलं, “काही मदत करू का?”

“अहो ताई तुम्ही कशाला? मी पटकन आवरून घेईन असुद्या..”

“पटकन कसलं, ओट्यावर बघ किती पसारा आहे, मुंगीलाही शिरायला जागा नाही. सिंकमध्ये भांडी…अबब… काय वहिनी, एकटीने करणार हे?”

“मग आमच्याकडे कोण बघेल??”

“आमच्या सासू सासऱ्यांकडे कोण बघतं?? तेव्हा तर आम्हाला जाण्यासाठी आग्रह करत होतात..”

मितालीला राहवलं नाही आणि वाद घालायला तिने सुरवात केली, पण वहिनीला हे नको होतं, तिने पडती बाजू घेत म्हणाली,

“बाजू मांडणं म्हणजे घराची शांतता भंग करणं..जे मला आवडणार नाही..”

एवढं म्हणत वहिनी निघून गेली. खोलीत जाऊन गपचूप रडत होती, तेवढ्यात तिथे आशुतोष आला..
