शेवटी ओवी आणि कार्तिकीने जसा विचार केला होता अगदी तसेच झाले.
घरी आल्याबरोबर ओवीची अवस्था पाहून सगळेचजण काळजीत पडले. लेकीच्या हाताला बांधलेले भले मोठे बँडेज पाहून सीमा ताईंच्या डोळ्यांत पाणीच आले.”अगं ओवी काय झालं हे?” ओवीला अशा अवस्थेत पाहून सीमा ताई खूपच घाबरल्या.एका पाठोपाठ एक सर्वांचेच मग धडाधड प्रश्न सुरू झाले. “अगं ओवी कसं काय झालं हे? आणि कित्ती लागलंय ते! एखादा फोन का नाही केला.” आजीच्या प्रश्नांची सरबत्ती सुरू झाली.”काय गं कार्तिकी हे सगळं झालं तेव्हा तू नव्हती का ओवीसोबत?”माधवी ताईंनी विचारले.”नाही.” खाली मान घालून कार्तिकी उत्तरली.”अरे इतकं पॅनिक नका होवू. जास्त काही नाही.. छोटासा ॲक्सिडेंट झालाय बस. काळजी करण्यासारखं काहीच नाही.” ओवी उत्तरली.”जास्त काही नाही? असं कसं म्हणतेस तू ओवी? आणि कसं काळजी करण्यासारखं काही नाहीये. अगं न सांगताही सगळं दिसतंय. अंदाज येतोच किती लागले असेल याचा.” माधवी ताई बोलल्या.
“काकी अगं झालं आता…झालेली गोष्ट थोडीच ना बदलणार आहे. आहे त्यापेक्षा जास्त काही झाले नाही यातच समाधान.” समजावणीच्या सुरात ओवी बोलली.”अगं तसं नाही गं ओवी…घरात काही कार्य असले की हे असे काहीतरी होते, हा जुना अनुभव आहे माझा. म्हणून तर त्या दिवशी मी तुम्हाला आत्याकडे जातानाही गाडीवर जाऊ दिलं नाही.” भावनिक सुरात माधवी ताई बोलल्या.”असं काही नसतं गं काकी. उगीच असे भलतेसलते विचार करू नको बरं.””अगं खरंच असंच आहे. हवं तर आजीला विचार, हो की नाही ओ आई?”
“हो..म्हणजे असं का होतं ते नाही माहीत पण आपल्या घरात अशा एकापाठोपाठ एक घटना घडल्या आहेत. म्हणून मग मनात एक भीती बसलेली आहे. त्यात आता कितपत तथ्य आहे ते देवच जाणे.”आजी बोलल्या.”असं काही नसेल गं आजी. हे सगळं डोक्यातून काढून टाका बरं तुम्ही. कारण आपण जसा विचार करतो ना आपल्यासोबत तशाच गोष्टी घडत असतात. याला एकच कारण आहे ते म्हणजे आपण जे काही निगेटीव्ह विचार करतो ती सगळी निगेटिव्हीटी आपल्याकडे आकर्षित होते. आणि तसंही काही गोष्टी या विधिलिखित असतात. त्या कोणीही बदलवू शकत नाही. आजचंच उदाहरण घ्या ना… माझ्या नशिबात जर आज मृत्यूयोग असता तर आज मी तुमच्यासमोर अशी धडधाकट उभी नसते. पण तसं झालं का?”
“ओवी… अगं असं अभद्र बोलू नको बरं. रोज तुम्ही सगळे बाहेर जाता पण घरी येईपर्यंत जीवात जीव नसतो आम्हा बायकांच्या. याचं हेच कारण आहे. ध्यानी मनी नसताना हे असं काहीतरी घडलं आज. मनातून भीती तर वाटणारच ना मग? बाहेर जा पण स्वतःच्या जीवाला जरा जपून. घरी आपली वाट पाहणारे खूप जण असतात, याचीही जाणीव ठेवा. तुम्हाला असं काहीबाही बोलायला खूप सोप्पं वाटतं. आम्ही तर विचार सुद्धा करू शकत नाही.””सॉरी काकी…मला समजतंय तुला काय म्हणायचंय. चुकलं माझं. ” माधवी काकीला भावूक झालेलं पाहून शांतपणे ओवी बोलली.”तुमच्याच भल्यासाठी बोलतो गं आम्ही.””पण आई.. अगं तिची चूक नव्हती. एकजण येऊन तिला धडकला. ती तरी काय करणार.” ओवीची बाजू घेत कार्तिकी बोलली.”माझं तसं काही म्हणणंच नाही कार्तिकी. पण ती आमचे मुद्दे खोडून तिचे जे म्हणणे खरे करत आहे ना ते मला पटत नाही. आम्हा बायकांच्याही भावना तुम्ही समजून घ्याव्यात एवढीच आमची अपेक्षा असते. काही घटना आहेत अशा ज्या अजूनही मनात भीतीचे घर करून बसल्या आहेत. म्हणून आम्ही जे काही तुम्हाला सल्ले देतो ते तुमच्या आजच्या पिढीला पटणारे नसतात. सगळं मान्य आहे आता पूर्वीसारखं काही राहिलं नाही. पण तुम्हीही आमच्या भावना समजून घ्या ना गं.””हो काकी..यापुढे नक्की लक्षात ठेवील.” ओवी म्हणाली.”गुड…बरं चला जेवून घ्या आता आणि काय गं दोघींनी मिळून ही एवढीच शॉपिंग केली का? आणि ही एवढी फुलं कशाला आणली? त्याचा काय गुलकंद करायचाय? नको तिथे पैसे घालवता तुम्ही मुली.” माधवी ताई बोलल्या.”खरंच गं कशाला आणायची एवढी फुलं?” सीमा ताईंनी माधवी ताईंच्या री मध्ये री ओढली.
“अगं छोटी आई, एक गरीब मुलगी होती बिचारी. फुलं विकत उन्हातून फिरत होती. तिची अवस्था पाहून मन भरून आले, म्हणून मग घेतली सगळी फुलं विकत.” कार्तिकी बोलली.”काय गं… तुम्ही मुली पण ना..कधीकधी इतकं बालिशपणे वागता आणि कधीकधी हे असं मोठ्या माणसालाही सुचणार नाही असं शहाणपणाने वागता.” मुलींचे कौतुक करत माधवी ताई बोलल्या.कार्तिकीला मात्र मनातून खूप वाईट वाटले. जी गोष्ट तिने केलीच नव्हती त्यासाठी तिला आज शाबासकी मिळाली होती. त्यामुळे तिचे मन तिलाच खात होते.”बरं चला…जेवून घ्या आता.”सीमा ताई म्हणाल्या.”आम्ही बाहेर खाऊन आलोय गं आई. अजिबात भूक नाहीये.” ओवी उत्तरली.”हे बाहेरचं खाणं बंद करा आता. इतकंच खाऊ वाटलं तर आपल्या हॉटेलमधील भाज्या आणून खा.” माधवी ताई बोलल्या.”ओके…तू म्हणते तसेच करु. नाही खाणार बाहेरचं. मग तर झालं?”ह्मममम.. असं काहीतरी.””दी…वकील साहेबांना फोन करून सांग आम्ही व्यवस्थित पोहोचलो घरी. ते वाट पाहत असतील.” भावनेच्या भरात ओवी बोलून गेली.”आता हे काय नवीन?” माधवी काकीने आश्चर्यकारकरित्या प्रश्न केला.आता काय उत्तर द्यावे ते दोघींनाही समजेना.”अगं आई मगाशी हॉस्पिटल मध्ये होतो तेव्हा त्यांचा फोन आला होता. ओवीच्या ॲक्सिडेंट बद्दल त्यांना समजलं. तेव्हा घरी पोहोचल्यावर फोन करा म्हणाले होते ते.” आता ह्यावेळी कार्तिकीने बाजू सावरून घेतली.”थँक गॉड.” ओवीने मनातच देवाचे आभार मानले.”बरं जा आता आराम करा थोडावेळ. रात्री शेजारच्या काकू येणार आहेत. तुझ्या लग्नाच्या साड्या पाहायच्या आहेत त्यांना.” माधवी ताई बोलल्या.”ओके…” म्हणत दोघीही मग आपापल्या खोलीत जायला निघाल्या.
“दी..आता गेल्या चार पाच दिवसांत आपण खूपच खोटं बोललोय बरं का. म्हणूनच ही अशी शिक्षा मिळाली असणार मला. असंच वाटतंय.””काहीही काय ओवी. मी पण खोटं बोललेच ना! उलट ह्यावेळी तुझ्या पेक्षाही जास्त खोटं मी बोलले. जस्ट आताही खोटं बोलले मी. मग शिक्षा तर मलाही मिळायला हवी ना?””मिळाली की तुलाही. उलट माझ्यापेक्षा खूप मोठी!””कधी आणि कोणती शिक्षा मिळाली गं मला? मला तर काहीच आठवत नाहीये.””लग्न करून सासरी जाण्याची.” हसतच ओवी बोलली.”काहीही… हात सांभाळ आधी. पुढच्या आठ दिवसांत बरा झाला पाहिजे तो. जा जाऊन झोप आता.””मी जाणारच आहे. तुला नाही डिस्टर्ब करणार, नको काळजी करू. जा तुझा समर वाट पाहत असेल. फोन कर त्याला.” कार्तिकीला जीभ दाखवत ओवी तिच्या खोलीत निघून गेली.पुढचे सलग आठ दिवस कैवल्यने ओवीच्या हाताचे वेळच्या वेळी ड्रेसिंग करुन तिची व्यवस्थित काळजी घेतली. घरातच एक डॉक्टर आहे म्हटल्यावर ओवीही लवकर रिकव्हर होत होती. पण जखम थोडी खोल असल्यामुळे रोज ड्रेसिंग गरजेचे होते. त्यात हात भिजवून चालणार नव्हते. लग्नापर्यंत हात बरा व्हायला पाहिजे म्हणून ओवीने पहिल्यांदा स्वतःची इतकी काळजी घेतली.सात आठ दिवस तर त्यातच गेले. लग्नही आता तोंडावर येऊन ठेपले होते. दोन्हीही घरी पाहुण्यांची वर्दळ सुरू झाली होती.सर्वात आधी सुलभा आत्या आली. आत्या आली नि आनंदाला जणू उधाण आले. सोबत सानवी आणि सार्थक सुद्धा होतेच. त्यामुळे सगळेच खूप खुश झाले. कार्तिकीची मेधा मावशीदेखील तिच्या एकुलत्या एका लेकीला घेऊन चार पाच दिवस आधीच आली होती. आता कुठे लग्न घर भरल्यासारखे वाटत होते.लग्नाच्या दोन तीन दिवस आधी ओवीची निता मामी आणि कार्तिकीची संध्या मामी देखील आपापल्या मुलांसह हजर झाल्या. या सर्वांमुळे मेहंदी आणि संगीत प्रोग्रॅमला चार चाँद लागले. सगळेजण खूपच एन्जॉय करत होते.लग्नाला आता फक्त तीनच दिवस बाकी होते. त्यात आज होता कार्तिकी चा मेहंदी आणि संगीत प्रोग्राम.रात्रीचे साडे सात आत वाजले होते…”अगं ओवी तू मेहंदी नाही काढली अजून?” नीता मामीने विचारले.”मामी मी सगळ्यात शेवटी काढणार आहे.” ओवी उत्तरली.”ये ओवी अगं बरं झालं तू अजून मेहेंदी नाही काढली ते. माझं एक काम होतं अगं.” माधवी काकी बोलली.”काय काम आहे बोल ना.””अगं टेलरकडे जाऊन माझा आणि सीमाचा ब्लाऊज आणायचा होता. जातेस बाळा? प्लीज जा ना. अगं ह्या सगळ्या गडबडीत मी विसरुनच गेले बघ. तो आज दुपारीच ब्लाऊज देणार होता. आता जाऊन घेऊन ये ना.””तू पण ना. आता ह्यावेळी सांगतेस का गं काकी.””जा ना गं. कुठे लांब आहे? फक्त घेऊन तर यायचाय. लगेच येशील. हवंतर कोणाला तरी सोबत ने.””सगळ्यांनी मेहंदी लावली. कोण येणार माझ्यासोबत?””कुठे जायचंय ओवी? चल मी येतो.” तेवढ्यात सार्थक म्हणाला.”अरे टेलरकडे जायचंय. चल जाऊ पटकन्.””हो चल.. तसंही मला इथे खूपच बोअर झालंय.”ओवी आणि सार्थक दोघेही मग टेलरच्या दुकानात जायला निघाले.”दे…मी घेऊ गाडी. तसंही तुला हातामुळे त्रास होत असेल ना.””नको नको मी घेते. हात ठीक आहे आता. पटकन जाऊ आपण नाहीतर रस्ता सांगण्यात वेळ जायचा. चल बस पटकन.”सार्थक ओवीच्या मागे बसला. का कोण जाणे पण आज त्याला काहीतरी वेगळंच फील झालं. ओवीची बडबड सुरुच होती. पण सार्थक वेगळ्याच दुनियेत रममाण झाला होता. हा प्रवास थांबूच नये असे क्षणभर त्याला वाटले. हवेमुळे ओवीच्या ओढणीचा नकळतपणे होणारा स्पर्श सार्थकला स्वप्नांच्या दुनियेत जायला भाग पाडत होता.”सार्थक… अरे कुठे हरवला? उतर की दुकान आलं.”ओवीच्या आवाजाने सार्थक भानावर आला.”सॉरी सॉरी सॉरी.. अगं त्या गर्दीकडे पाहत होतो मी त्यामुळे लक्ष नव्हतं.””बरं उतर पटकन. आधीच दुकानात गर्दी बघ.”ओवीने गाडी साईडला पार्क केली आणि ती दुकानात जायला निघाली पण तिथे खूपच गर्दी होती. पुढचा अर्धा तास तरी वेट करायला लागेल असेच चित्र दिसत होते.”काका तुम्ही दुपारीच ब्लाऊज देणार असं काकीला सांगितलं होतं ना. मग आता का उशीर करताय. आधी आमचा द्या बरं. दोन ब्लाऊज आहेत आमचे.””थोडा वेळ थांबतेस का तू. तुमचे ब्लाऊज रेडी आहेत पण आता कुठे ठेवलेत ते शोधावे लागतील.””काय तुम्ही पण काका..दुसऱ्या एखाद्या कामगाराला शोधायला सांगा ना मग. आम्ही किती वेळ उभं राहायचं बरं.””देतो मी लगेच. फक्त ह्या साहेबांचं थोडं काम बाकी आहे, त्यांनाही खूप अर्जंट आहे. त्यांचं झालं की लगेच देतो.””कोण साहेब, मी नाही ओळखत ह्यांना. आधी आमचं काम करा बरं.””अगं त्यांच्या आईचा ब्लाऊज आहे, त्यांच्या घरी पण लग्न आहे. त्यात ते खूप लांबून आलेत गं. पहिल्यांदाच त्यांच्या आईने इथे ब्लाऊज शिवायला दिलेत. त्यात ह्या लग्न सराईमुळे कामाचा लोड खूपच वाढला. म्हणून उशीर पण झाला सगळ्या कामाला. तू काय आपलीच आहेस . थोडं समजून घेशील ना.” हसतच टेलर काका बोलले.”तुम्ही पण ना काका…ह्यांना काय एवढया लांब यायची गरज होती? त्यांच्या एरियात टेलर नाहीत वाटतं. असं दुसऱ्याच्या एरियात घुसून अतिक्रमण करायचं का मग?”ओवी त्या अनोळखी व्यक्तीला सुनावत होती.”ओय हॅलो मॅडम..आम्ही कुठे कपडे शिवायला द्यायचे तो आमचा प्रश्न आहे. मगाच पासून तुमचं ऐकून घेतोय याचा अर्थ असा नाही की तुम्ही बोलतच राहाल.””मी बोलणार. तुमच्यामुळे मला उशीर होतोय आणि लग्न काय फक्त तुमच्याच घरी नाही आमच्याही घरी आहे समजलं.””मग मी काय करू? जवळ राहता ना मग तुम्हाला लवकर पोहोचण्यासाठी काय एरोप्लेन पाहिजे होतं का.” हसतच ती व्यक्ती बोलली.”हो तुमच्याकडे असेल तर पाठवायचे ना मग.””हो आहे ना. पण ते तुमच्या कामाचे नाही.”खोचकपणे तो तरुण बोलला.”तोंड बघा आरशात.” रागातच ओवी बोलली.”तुम्हीच पाहून यायचे ना आरशात. तोंडाला काय लागलंय दिसलं असतं मग.” तो तरुण हसतच बोलला.”ओवी अगं जाऊ दे ना…कशाला उगीच वाढवतेस.” हळूच सार्थक ओवीच्या कानात बोलला.”सार्थक काही लागलंय का रे माझ्या चेहऱ्याला?” सार्थकच्या जवळ चेहरा नेत ओवी बोलली.”अगं गालाला मेहंदी लागलीये, पण जास्त नाहीये. उगीच काहीतरी आहे.” सार्थक बोलला.”अरे देवा..सार्थक पुस ना प्लीज. नाहीतरी रंग यायचा चेहऱ्यावर.””ओवी अगं मी कशी पुसणार. सगळे हसतील ना. पुस की तू तुझी.” हळू आवाजातच सार्थक बोलला.”अरे कोणी नाही हसत. मी आहे ना, प्लीज तू पुसून दे बरं. तुझ्या खिशात रुमाल असेल तर त्याने पुस. मी धुवून देईल नंतर तुझा रुमाल.”ओवीने सार्थकला रिक्वेस्ट केली. सार्थकनेही मग लगेचच त्याच्या रुमालाने त्याने ओवीच्या चेहऱ्याला लागलेली मेहंदी अलगद हाताने पुसून दिली.आज मात्र सार्थकचे काही खरे नव्हते. हे सगळे काय सुरू आहे, त्याला समजेना. याआधी असे कधीच झाले नाही पण आज ओवी बद्दलच्या त्याच्या भावना मनातून कुठेतरी बदलत आहेत असे त्याला वाटत होते.शेजारी उभ्या असलेल्या त्या तरुणाने ओवी आणि सार्थक वरुन एक कटाक्ष टाकला. तेवढयात त्याचा फोन वाजला. फोन घेण्यासाठी तो तरुण थोडा बाजूला गेला.”काका द्या ना हो. किती वेळ उभं राहायचं आम्ही. तुमचं काम होईपर्यंत आम्ही काय असंच उभं राहायचं का? ते तिकडे आहेत तोपर्यंत द्याना.”ओवीने टेलर काकांना थोडा मस्का मारला.”बरं थांब दोन मिनिट.”टेलर काकांनी लगेचच ‘मोहिते’ नावाची पिशवी शोधून ओवीच्या हातात दिली.”थँक्यू काका. पैसे दिले आहेत बरं का आधीच.””बरं बरं..”तेवढ्यात ती व्यक्ती तिथे आली.”काका दुकान बंद व्हायची वेळ झाली. यांना उद्या यायला सांगा आता.” हसतच ओवी बोलली.”दिस इस नॉट फेअर आ काका. तुम्ही हातातील काम सोडून असं कसं करू शकता.””तूमचंही झालंच हो..पाचच मिनिट.””काका काही घाई नाही निवांत होवू द्या आता.” गाडी स्टार्ट करत ओवी बोलली.”तुमचे काम झाले ना…जा ना मग आता.” रागातच तो तरुण बोलला.””बाय मिस्टर….डॅश डॅश.” त्या तरुणाला खुन्नस देत ओवी तिथून निघून गेली.”काय मुलगी आहे…कोण समजते कोण स्वतःला.” तो तरुण तोंडातच पुटपुटला.”नाही ओ, तुम्ही समजता तशी नाही ती. खूप गोड पोरगी आहे ती. हा थोडी बिनधास्त आहे बोलायला पण मनाने खूप चांगली आहे.” टेलर काका बोलले.”जाऊ द्या मला काय करायचंय तिचं. तुम्ही माझं काम करा पटकन.” चिडक्या सुरात तो तरुण बोलला.क्रमशःसार्थकच्या मनात ओवीविषयी निर्माण झालेल्या भावना याला प्रेम म्हणायचे का आणखी काही?
