आज अचानक सुधीर भाऊंच्या हॉस्पिटलमध्ये असल्याचा फोन आला अन दोघेही तडक तिकडे धावत गेले,

प्रशांतची बायको दिसताच सुधीरच्या बायकोने तिच्या जवळ जाऊन मिठी मारली अन मिठीतच रडायला लागली,

मंजिरीने तिला सावरलं,

“शांत हो, सगळं ठीक होईल”

“कसं ठीक होईल सांग तूच, काही वर्षांपासून नशिबाने पाठ फिरवली.. क्षणात होत्याचं नव्हतं होऊन बसलं.. मुलगी घरातून पळून गेली एका मुलासोबत.. मुलगा दिवसभर नशेत असतो..यांची होती नव्हती सगळी कमाई आता दवाखान्यात जातेय.. दिवसाला 50 हजार खर्च येतोय…त्यातही जगतील की नाही शाश्वती नाही..”

“पण वहिनी अचानक काय झालं भाऊजींना?”

“साधं अपघाताचं कारण, डोक्याला मार लागला अन हे असं झालं..”

तिची दयनीय अवस्था बघून मंजिरीने तिला सावरलं, धीर दिला..

काहीवेळ थांबून दोघांनी त्यांना निरोप दिला..

घरी येताना मंजिरी सुन्न झालेली,

नवऱ्याला म्हणाली,

“कसं एखाद्याचं नशीब असतं ना? इतका पैसा, प्रतिष्ठा असून जीवाला नुसता घोर..”

प्रशांतने आता मौन सोडलं,तो म्हणाला..

“एकेकाळी तू यांचीच श्रीमंती बघून मला बोलत होतीस ना? आता ऐक मग…आम्ही दोघेही सरकारी खात्यात, आमच्याकडे खूप जबाबदारीची कामं यायची. त्यात सुधीर च्या सही शिवाय काम पुढे सरकायचं नाही. गावातील गरीब शेतकरी त्याच्या सहीसाठी ताटकळत असायचे. पण सुधीर मात्र मुद्दाम त्यांना बाहेर बसवायचा, दिवसेंदिवस चकरा मरायला लावायचा विनाकारण. हळूहळू त्याने सही साठी पैसे घ्यायला सुरुवात केली, गरीब शेतकरी स्वतःच्या गोष्टी गहाण ठेऊन त्यांना पैसे देऊन काम पूर्ण करून घेऊ लागले, काम होत असल्याने कुणी तक्रार करत नव्हतं…पण त्या शेतकऱ्यांचा कष्टाचा पैसा सुधीरच्या खिशात जात होता, सुधीरच्या घरी भरपूर पैसा यायचा, घरी नवनवीन वस्तू यायच्या पण सोबतच त्या प्रत्येक शेतकऱ्याचा तळतळाट तो घेत होता..शेतकरी आपलं काम करून घेई पण जातांना सुधीरला मनोमन शिव्याशाप देऊन जाई. नशिबाने वगैरे काहीही पाठ फिरवली नाही, कर्म फिरून त्याच्याकडे आलं आहे..शेतकऱ्याचा पै अन पै देव आज हॉस्पिटलच्या बिलात वसूल करतोय…हेच कारण होतं मी नोकरी सोडली, कारण शेतकरी माझ्याकडे गयावया करायचा, मी सुधीरला सही साठी सांगायचो पण तो पैशांवर अडून राहायचा, एके दिवशी मलाही त्याने या लाच घेण्यासाठी विचारले..त्याक्षणी मी नोकरी सोडली, व्यवसाय सुरू केला अन कष्टाने पैसा मिळवला…”

कधी न बोललेला प्रशांत आज बोलून गेला,

मंजिरीला धक्काच बसला, हे असं सगळं झालेलं?

तिला स्वतःचीच लाज वाटू लागलेली,

आपल्या नवऱ्याने त्याची तत्व आणि संस्कार कसे जपले याचा तिला अभिमान वाटू लागला, आज तिची मुलं संस्कारी निपजली होती, घरात पैसाही होता, शांती आणि समाधान होतं..हे सगळं प्रामाणिकपणे मिळवलेल्या पैशामुळे..प्रशांतने फक्त व्यवसायातून पैसा मिळवला नाही तर अनेक लोकांचे आशिर्वादही मिळवले होते… काळाने प्रत्येकाला ज्याच्या त्याच्या कर्माने फळ दिलं होतं..
