सकाळी लवकर उठून फ्रीज साफ केलेला, मांडणी साफ करून परत रचली, स्वयंपाक करून ओटा आवरून ठेवला आणि घर स्वतःच्या हाताने पुसून काढलं..आणि ऑफिसमध्ये सरांनी तिच्या ऑफिशियल कामाचं कौतुक केलेलं..

ती घरी आली आणि दार उघडलं,

डोळ्यांवर झापड येत होती पण अजून स्वयंपाक, जेवण, झाकपाक समोर होतं, सासूबाईंना सांगायची काही सोयच नव्हती..

आल्या आल्या तिने सोफ्यावर बसलेल्या सासुकडे आणि नवऱ्याकडे बघून स्मितहास्य केलं,

पण त्यांच्या कपाळावर आठ्या होत्या,

आता काय झालं असेल? तिला प्रश्न पडला..

“तुझी नोकरी बंद कर”

तिचा नवरा एकदम म्हणाला,

“काय??”

“हो, आई सांगत होती सकाळी तू कचऱ्याचा डबा दाराशी ठेवला नाहीस…कोण करणार ही कामं??”

ती काही क्षण त्यांच्याकडे बघतच राहिली,

तिला समजलं,

तिने अगदी जीव जरी काढून ठेवला, तरी ही लोकं तिची किंमत करणार नाही,

त्या दिवशी असंच ऑफिसमधून घरी सोडायला गाडी आली आणि ती दरवाजाजवळ गेली,

तोच तिला एक हाक ऐकू आली,

तिने पाहिलं, तिला धक्काच बसला..ड्रायव्हरला गाडी बाजूला घ्यायला सांगून ती गेली,

तिचा आधीचा नवरा होता तो,

योगायोगाने त्याला ती दिसली आणि त्याला राहवलं नाही,

तो तिच्याजवळ आला,

तिने होकार दिला,

एकत्र येण्याची तिला आशा नव्हती आणि ईच्छाही , तिला काही वाटलही नाही..सहज वेळ जावा म्हणून ती हो म्हणाली, आणि हो, बाहेरून समजलेलं की त्याने दुसरं लग्नही केलं..

“कशी आहेस? आणि राहायला कुठे?”

“इथेच जवळ, 2 bhk फ्लॅट घेतलाय..”

“विकत?”

“हो..तुझं काय चाललं?”

“तुमचं” वरून “तुझं” ती म्हटली त्यावरूनच आपल्या बाबतीत घसरलेला आदर त्याला दिसला..पण पर्याय नव्हता..

“मी…आम्ही दुसरीकडे शिफ्ट झालो…भाड्याने राहतोय एका खोलीत..”

“बरं..”

त्याला खूप काही बोलायचं होतं, पण तो दाबत होता,

ती म्हणाली, “चला माझा ड्रायव्हर वाट बघतोय… निघुयात आपण..”

वेळ कमी आहे बघून त्याचा संयम सुटला, तो रडू लागला..

“माझं खरंच चुकलं…आज तू सोबत असतीस तर माझी परिस्थिती खुप वेगळी असती…मला वाटायचं तू कमावती आहेस, तुला खूप गर्व आहे, घरात तू सर्वांना पाण्यात पाहशील.. पण तू तशी नव्हतीस, तू नोकरी करून घरातलं पहायचीस, स्वतःसाठी नाही तर घरासाठी सगळा खर्च करायचीस.. एवढं करून आमची बोलणी ऐकायचीस…”
